Andruw Jones a better fit for Sox then Beltran...
Maggs isn't going to be 2-3 million cheaper based on what he said to want. The only way that happens now is if the injury affects the market, and thus his contract demands. Remember, he turned down a deal for 4 years at $15 million. Say what you want, but he wasn't willing to give the Sox a discount in the slightest, and unwilling to work with the club to consummate a deal. From what I've heard, and noticing his unwillingness to deal until after FA, proves to me he really wasn't planning on coming back to the Sox regardless. This injury was a curse upon himself, and honestly, gives the Sox a break for not having to explain not resigning him. I liked Maggs a lot, but the contract issue got to me, and if I'm going to spend similar money, I'm giving it to Beltran, even if it is a little more. Beltran helps our club that much more than Maggs IMO. He's more of the type of player we need. Plus with moving Rowand to right, I believe it sets us up for a real strong defensive outfield, if it does happen.

Andruw Jones a better fit for Sox then Beltran...
I would have taken Beltran over Maggs before his injury. Since then, it is a no doubter IMO. Maggs wants the same money, doesn't have the defense, speed, switch hitting ability, or overall talent IMO as Beltran, and is now a liability. Maybe he'll be fine, but we honestly don't know.

Carlos to be traded?
No thanks, he wants to be the highest paid pitcher, and he's no longer the best pitcher IMO. Very good, but not the same.

Carlos to be traded?
It would be nice to split Thomas and PK to balance the lineup, but I doubt the Sox would split them with Beltran. The guy is fast, no reason to sandwich him between those slow pokes.

Mike Lowell
I would rather sign Koskie in the offseason, if at all possible. However, the Marlins may gain interest in a Joe Crede for perhaps Mota, or something else desirable.

Coaching staff suggestion....
Not saying he will, but he wasn't too thrilled with accepting the position in the first place. If we had a replacement, I presume he wouldn't care one way or another. That's an assumption though, maybe he had more fun than expected this season.

Sox interested in Beltran?
For the Bonilla one anyhow, we signed Belle instead, so that one can be scratched out. However, every year and offseason are different. We should have much more money to spend this year, and a better idea of where we want this team to be IMO. Signing a Beltran is probably unlikely, but cetainly not impossible.

Coaching staff suggestion....
Wouldn't it be the s*** if Joe was able to come back. He certainly knew what he was doing.

Ozzie unloads on Showalter
I agree, I don't know why everyone is making this look like Ozzie is the bad guy here. Buck makes an ass out of himself and Ozzie called him on it. End of story.

Next year with Everett
He said that, but there is talk that part of the reason is because Uribe is going to be arbitration eligible, and he probably doesn't want to talk bad about Valentin if they aren't going to sign him. Why rip him if you like the guy, but don't want him back? I seriously doubt he's back, but we'll see.

Phil Rogers: Rangers might ask for Garland
I'd take him as a fifth starter.

Sox Not Going to Make Offer to Maggs
He's a different player than Maggs, and with that said, I wouldn't mind him taking over in right field if we were able to sign a pretty good CF. Or keep him in CF and obtain a respectable RF with a good portion of money being spent on pitching. Aaron is a pretty darn good player, and he has finally been able to show what he can do with a little experience and health on his side. He has quicky become my favorite player, more because of the way he goes about playing and training.

I have to give Mariotti credit ....
Everyone knows that, and besides, Mariotti is an expert in areas that give the Sox problems, both real and fiction.

Pavano and Benitez on the Market?
Well including Lee is a major part of the deal being ridiculous. I doubt the Cardinals would empty their farm system, or any other team. The guy is good, but including the Sox top outfielding prospect, our starting left fielder and CF, and a another pitching prospect for a relief pitcher is nothing short of being dumb. There is no way it would happen.

Pavano and Benitez on the Market?
You're crazy, no way he would command that much.

Pavano and Benitez on the Market?
A's tried to get Mota before acquiring Dotel.

Randy Johnson
I'm not holding my breath.

now how many "prospects" have we given up for
So you're saying Frankie would have gotten us over the hump? The team under acheived, and we all know why. Everett did his part, and was a good acquisition then and is now as well.
-
now how many "prospects" have we given up for
That's super, but we had a need last year, and Everett did give us a boost with no financial cost to us. So...... rolleyeyes.gif

1-1 with a 4.38 ERA. Not terrible, but obviously you didn't do your homework on your argument. rolleyeyes.gif

Ya but what have any of the prospects done as of yet, and also how much money was actually paid to him by the Sox? The answer to both questions is not much.

Lets all give thanks to KC
That was a nice surprise.

Carl Everett
For $3 million. Hardly exercising a high risk situation.

As exciting as Takatsu's entrance is...
He said in the Tribune that he likes it. It pumps him up he says, so I don't see a problem.

Kenny Rogers possibly hurt
You're absolutely right. MB made it sound as if he didn't want to go or care about it at this point. I don't blame him. If he gets a spot after all this crap, it probably doesn't feel as rewarding.
