Selling off parts?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) I remember when KW acquired an $11 million a year #5 starter, people were fine with that. So if Danks is a #3, his contract appears to be right in line. And if the Sox totally bottomed out and got rid of all their top players, you would still be complaining, and there is no guarantee the rebuild will work. The guy pointed out that long rebuilds tend to lose you fans forever. He said one reason TB can't draw 10k is because they were bad so long, people became disinterested forever. People have no patience with the current young guys on the Sox roster. They will have no patience if the entire line up was full of these types of players. They would stop caring all together. I can say with the utmost confidence that's bulls***. Florida doesn't give a s*** about baseball. Never has, never will.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) Fister back...it's about time for that 1.65 ERA in a Tigers uniform to go up Except he's facing the vaunted Mariner offense tonight. You know, the same offense the great Phil Humber perfect gamed.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
Why are you guys talking about 2005? That was a lifetime ago. It's 2012. The game has changed. Young, cheap STARTING pitching under contractual control is what's vogue now. The Sox have nothing in this department now.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 7, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) The Rangers scrapped together bullpen has 4 guys making $4 million or higher. GMAB. They promoted Neftali Feliz, who's making like 500K, to the rotation. Ogando, who's been their best reliever so far, is making under 500 K. Mark Lowe is under 2 million. Robbie Ross is making peanuts. The other guys were through trades as they were making back-2-back World Series runs. They haven't wasted any real resources in assembling their bullpen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) And yet, the Braves have the 3rd worst team ERA in the National League. Albert Pujols has also been one of the worst players in baseball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:56 AM) It also can fail miserably and then you are totally screwed. You can have a great offense and great starters, if you're bullpen is bad, you're in a lot of trouble. As Gonzo wrote this morning, Sale and Reed could be Gossage and Forster part II. Not bad, especially considering how important a good bullpen is these days. Um, ok. I'd be happy with Venters and Kimbrel myself. Though the Braves, unlike the Sox, are overflowing when starting pitching, majors and minors.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Good releivers are not a dime a dozen, and if you don't understand that, you don't understand baseball. How many games have the Sox blown so far this short season without having a true closer? You've got the elites: Mariano, Joe Nathan from '04 through '09, Billy Wagner, Eric Gagne for a couple years, etc. But putting together a competent bullpen is by far the easiest component to piecemeal together for a franchise. The Rays have done it for like 5 years now.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
So apparently the woman who went onto the court during the Laker/Denver game is a Kenyon Martin stalker and was calling for him? Sources tell @YahooSports say they believe the girl that ran on floor in Denver was the same one that stalked Kenyon Martin in his DEN days. Sources also tell also tell @YahooSports the woman was screaming: "Where is Kenyon?" to @denvernuggets bench before running on floor.

lol@drunk. Yeah, that's pretty bad. But that's what badger does. He's obsessed with the refs. He's even worse in the college hoops thread.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Asik's costing himself a fortune, isn't he? He hasn't looked right all year. I don't know. I just think he's terrible. I remember last year when O.J. Mayo for Asik came up and I said I'd do that in a second and I got rushed.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) Balta, don't know if you are old enough to remember the early 90s Bulls Knicks series, Phil Jackson was a master of complaining to the media about what he percieved as a lack of calls by the refs, about how the Knicks grabbed, pulled and tried to bully Chicago to get an edge. It isn't just about getting Ts. PJax did the same in LA, complaining about how other players were allowed to get away with a lot of physical play with Shaq...and he was right. Couple things: Thibs isn't Phil. And there's no Michael, Scottie, Shaq or Kobe on this team.

Getting away from the refs for a second...Spencer Hawes went 9/11 and 22 points. That just can't happen. And Omer Asik is awful. I've never understood the hype surrounding him. Get him out of here.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) What are you talking about? You cant let the refs do this to your team. Thibs never gets Ted up, he never stands up for his players. Plenty of other coaches get t's. Yeah, the Bulls really need to be giving the Sixers free points at this stage.

As somebody who despises excessive whining about the refs I must admit, the Bulls got f***ed on those last two possessions.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 6, 2012 -> 12:30 AM) So lemme get this straight. We're going to continue on with Hector Santiago in our bullpen. Addison Reed in our bullpen. Chris Sale in our bullpen. and Zach Stewart in our bullpen. who the f*** is starting for us next year? Danks, Humber, Axelrod, ________, _________ if the plan were going to be either one of Stewart and Santiago, why the f*** haven't they already been sent down to work as starters? I hate everything about white sox baseball right now. Well, Bud Selig and friends have been making a lot of changes of late. The draft, extra Wildcard. Maybe they'll institute a rule in which the first five innings of baseball games are eliminated and go from just innings 6-9. Then the White Sox will be a potential juggernaut. Damn, that was kinda lame. But yeah, you don't build your franchise around bullpen arms. I don't care how good they are. Look at Tampa. That's how you're supposed to treat the bullpen.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 5, 2012 -> 11:45 PM) Unless Jake wins the Cy Young award this season, no team will be willing to offer him a deal over 2 years and $10 million per. And then greg will complain that the White Sox are being cheap and disloyal after trashing him for the last 2 years or so. I'll admit. I've been hard on Peavy as well. But unless he's willing to take a big f***ing pay-cut (or a deal with a bevy of incentives), I don't want to see him back next year. At all.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 5, 2012 -> 12:47 AM) Dwyane Wise is on the New York Yankees and got a hit tonight and Juan Pierre is hitting .330 for Philly. Underrated around here. Wow, greg. I'll always like you. But it's clearly apparent now that you want the Sox to suck because your hero is no longer manager. You're not fooling anybody in the gamethreads. Juan Pierre? Really? lol. That's not going to last long. Phillies fans already despise him because of his total ineptitude on the basepaths.
