2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Normally, if I were in that position, I'd lean towards holding them, especially since they've had a lot of issues finding funds to fill holes the past few years (i.e. their overturning hole at 1b every year, their bullpen, a power bat). And since Heyward is probably only going to get better from there, that's a reason for holding too. But you know...it is Cox's last chance. Good points. But it's nice to have those options. And like you said, it appears to be Cox's last dance.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) I think they might be a fit for Andruw Jones. Ha. All jokes aside, if they really want to go for it, they've got a bevy of premium pitching prospects they could dangle. Most notably Julio Teheran, Mike Minor and Arodys Vizcaino.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) By the way, the Braves just took over the NL East lead. They did that a couple days ago. They just extended their lead today. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) This is a fun team to watch. With the D-Backs sucking, they might move into the lead for, "NL team i might have to root for." Troy Glaus has gone nuts the last month. They're getting crazy production from Eric Hinske and Martin Prado. They'll need guys like Escobar and McClouth to start hitting. I still think they'll need another bat before it's all said and done. But I think it's safe to say that the Braves are back to being a factor in the NL again.

Pods
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) At least Pods was sizzling out of the gate when our team decided to come out sleepwalking and suck so bad that most people realized this season was over after one month. Huh?

Sox going after Mike Lowell?
I don't buy it. Where at that time of the year when you're gonna read or hear about 5757456537634 different rumors and most people are going to flip out, good or bad. This team is 9.5 games out of first place. They're not looking to add a past his prime, injury prone 3B (can he even play the position anymore?) as some feeble attempt of "getting back" in the race.

2010 Minor League Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 01:03 AM) This reminds me... don't try to orgasm too much when Strasburg is blowing 98+ and unhittable breaking pitches against our boys (w. sox) alright? It's gonna be tough. But I'll try.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) I was all over the Scott Rolen bandwagon last year. I wanted him bad and he would look dead sexy at 3B. IIRC, the Reds didn't give up much for him and he is fairly cheap. Speaking of the Reds though, I love their lineup. I'd probably put Votto in my top 5 list of best hitters in baseball. And even though he does have ego issues and tries to be the greatest home run hitter ever, I love me some Brandon Phillips. It's teams like the Reds, Braves, Rockies, Rays and Rangers that make me want to gargle broken glass when looking at the White Sox organization as a whole.

Mike Stanton hit two more bombs last night. I imagine he'll be up in another week or so.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:30 AM) Agreed. Odds are the Twins will take him after us and he will dominate us when he makes it to the bigs. Thats just the way it seems to go. Just once I'd love to see this team get a power pitcher in this rotation, someone in the mold of Matt Garza. Sad thing is these type of pitchers are available to us every year. Until this inept organizational philosophy of ours does a full (and not half-assed) 180, will continue to lag behind other organizations from an overall talent perspective.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Worth noting is the season Adrian Beltre is having. Nothing out of this world, but an .865 OPS plus good defense is a steal at $10 mill. Just for s***s and giggles (and I'm really not one to second guess) Beltre ($10) + Thome ($1.5 + ~$300K in incentives) + 3 minimum salary reserves = $13 mill Pierre ($3) + Teahen ($3.75) + Kotsay ($1.5) + Vizquel ($1.375) + Castro ($1 mill) = $10.625 That's not including poorly spent money with the likes of Linebrink ($5 mill this year, $5.5 next) and arguably Jenks ($7.25, although the Sox needed a closer and it would have been impossible to envision a guy like Rafael Soriano becoming available for cheap during the free agency process). Speaking of underrated 3B, I've got to give massive props to Walt Jocketty for the Scott Rolen acquisition last year. I thought he was sniffin' glue. That move has turned out to be outstanding, as Rolen has been one of the best two-way players in baseball this season.

BECKHAM IS BACK
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) Speaking of Alex Gordon though... I know I'm not the only one who would be freaking excited to see us trade for him. I'd orgasm all over my keyboard.

BECKHAM IS BACK
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) Believe he's talking about Field. Whoops. My bad.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Sadly, our fate was probably sealed during Spring, it just took us a couple weeks into the season to realize just how fundamentally flawed this team really was. I'd like to know who we could've added that would've offset the crap that has been Beckham, CQ, Ramirez, Floyd, Peavy, Buehrle and Jenks? This isn't aimed at you, but I get so sick and tired of the constant venom spewed towards Ozzie and Kenny. Blame some of these f***in' million dollar players that are s***tin' the f***in' bed.
-
Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
I'm inclined to agree. And it has nothing to do with Ozzie's managing or KW not doing enough to upgrade the team during the winter. Our money guys, save Rios and Danks, have not performed.

Go Vote for Rios
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) No love for Ethier? That's why I said "all-around." As in excelling in all facets of the game. Has Rios been the best hitter? No. Has he been the best combination of hitting, baserunning and defense? I'd say yes.

GT: Rangers @ White Sox 6/1, 7:10PM, CSN
Always a treat to watch Elvis Andrus play SS. I hope he's not too spectacular this series.

Mark Teahen to the DL, Lillibridge Recalled
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) Sorry Teahan is hurt but glad he's out of the lineup. A steady of diet of Omar is not gonna be good, however. Bring me Nix! Teahen had been one of our hottest hitters the last 10 days. Maybe you should pretend he was part of the 2005 team?

BECKHAM IS BACK
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) What happens when your left in the big leagues for 2 years to struggle. I bet he couldn't hit A-ball at the moment. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Gordon's line in AAA: .371/25/8/23/.508/.701/1.209 But yeah, he obviously couldn't hang at high A.
-
Go Vote for Rios
QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) True, but can't he be chosen by Girardi? Of course. But he's starter worthy. Rios' May: .344/22/8/18/.406/.700/1.106 7 for 9 in stolen bases. Well above average defense at a premium position. Alex Rios, for all intents and purposes, has been the best all-around player in baseball to this point.

BECKHAM IS BACK
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) They brought Beckham up last year as a band aid and now the band aid is falling off. Let him re-build his confidence and find his swings in Triple A. There is nothing wrong was that. If you leave him up in the bigs for to long, you run the risk of ruining him for good, see Fields, Josh; Gordon, Alex. Yeah, that Alex Gordon sure struggles against AAA pitching.

Mark Teahen to the DL, Lillibridge Recalled
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) I puked all over my keyboard. If there is a player in our minors who has proven is he more completely worthless at the MLB level than Lillibridge I'd like to find him. He is garbage. BLAH. To be fair, 109 PAs isn't much of a sample size. Not saying I want him up. But I don't think it would be the absolute worst thing in the world to see if he's made any legitimate improvements from last year.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) Their bullpen blew one yesterday against the Giants. I watch a lot of their games because I enjoy seeing the NL West...and every game it seems to be "And the DBacks bullpen finds a way to blow another one..." Their bullpen ERA through May 30th was 7.68. That's got to be some kinda record through two months. I'm too lazy to look it up. Hopefully Kalapse or qwerty can provide some insight.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) I don't know how the Cubs can be considered a better team than the Sox with 6 losses in 7 games against Pittsburgh Take Andrew McCutchen away, and I honestly don't see the difference between the Pirates and a random AAA team.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I know the NL sucks. Everybody says it. But why oh why are NL and AL teams tied after that first weekend of interleague play this year. If the NL is as bad as everybody says, wouldn't the AL just simply dominate head to head competition? I mean win almost every game? The way people talk is it's like the NL is a minor league team versus the Rays every night. Give me a break, greg. That's like saying we're as good as Tampa because we just split a series with them.
