Rockies @ Sox preseason, 3/16/10
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Them and the Rays. Seems both teams are freaks with their athleticism and talent. Yes. Don't know why I didn't think of the Rays right off the bat. I'd say they're exhibit A with the Rockies next in line.

Rockies @ Sox preseason, 3/16/10
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) I love watching the Rockies. They are my second favorite team, and they got a ton of young players. Fowler, Tulowitski, Stewart, Iannetta, Morales, Jimenez, Street, Smith, etc.. etc.. Like a college type clubhouse they got over there. They've become exhibit A as far as baseball's "new" emphasis on speed/athleticism/defense goes.

Rockies @ Sox preseason, 3/16/10
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) My Rios concerns are slowly abating. Looks like a totally different hitter. His approach/stance is much better than it was at the end of last year. He's a legitimate all-star when he's right.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) This was Pena's first bad outing of the spring. In fact.. that was his first run given up. It's just bad luck it happened when were televised and he's pitching. I like Pena alot.. and remember I'm one of the few hundred who hated the trade. Fixed.

D-backs lock up Mark Reynolds through 2013 ('13 being a team option). http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I like how they're locking up their young stars.

AGon discussion, et. al.
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) Would De Aza be a good trade piece to add to any AGon deal? QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) If CJ has a good spring and gets off to a great start in either AA/AAA would anyone be in favor of him being a trade chip for Agon? Not sure if the Pads would his skill set or upside. Is this supposed to be def comedy jam or somethin'?

The NY Times likes us better than the Cubs
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 06:26 AM) The author sort of implied part of our player development has also been by buy-low acquisition, good FA pickups or great trades, such as Quentin, Jenks, Floyd, Alexei, but he did a horrible job of explaining it. I got that part. And I agree. Kenny has pulled off some fabulous trades over the last 5 years or so (save the awful Swisher trade). But when I think homegrown I think draft, develop, bring 'em to Chicago. And we haven't done any of that outside of Beckham.

The NY Times likes us better than the Cubs
QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) What am I missing here? Well he talks about how the Cubs have produced next to nothing homegrown since Mark Grace. We're not exactly spittin' out homegrown talent either. Our first round picks from 2000-2006 were Joe Borchard, Kris Honel, Royce Ring, Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. That's not bad. That's just embarrassing. Yeah, we drafted Beckham. Took a 90 loss season (but at least we picked a good year to suck, as the '08 draft has a chance to be one of the best in years). But we're certainly in no position to be mocking the Cubs as far as player development goes. We're headed in the right direction, though.

What's most important for Flowers?
I'm a big proponent of top prospects (I.E. guys you view as future everyday players) getting consistent playing time. It's one thing if a guy like C.J Retheford makes the team and only sees the field once a week. But your top guys like Hudson and Flowers need to get it started right away. Otherwise leave them in the minors, as there's not much to gain by them riding the bench.

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) Anderson, Fields, Betemit, Wise... All 4 of those guys were talentless bums that have no business on a ML roster (Thanks for the catch, Wise). Even when Pods was going good, people found something to harp on.

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Yeah, I think the only Sox that is truly reviled right now is Scott Linebrink. The most reviled White Sox in recent memory has to be Javy Vazquez. Or, at least that's the case for me. You're kidding, right? The most reviled, hated, despised, loathed White Sox player of the last 10 years is EASILY Scott Podsednik.

First Mauer now Howard for Pujols? This is going to be an excruciatingly long final 3 weeks until opening day.

The NY Times likes us better than the Cubs
Decent article. Although the author obviously either has no clue about or chose to ignore our drafts from 2000-2006.

Anybody here about top Red Sox prospect Ryan Westmoreland? He's scheduled to have brain surgery next week. And I thought I was having a bad week.

Official 2010 Opening Day Countdown: 3 days
3 more weeks. This is freaking killling me. And it'd be nice to go back to when the season started March 31 or April 1.

Sergio Santos story on ESPN
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) It takes a pretty s***ty GM to be picking up players based on ESPN's stories. I'm just saying that I'm fairly certain Santos is a pretty unknown commodity right now. When you have ESPN printing these articles I would imagine some GM's interest would peak a little. There isn't a team in the league that's not looking for bullpen help. Especially cheap bullpen help (and in this case a guy that routinely hits 95+ with his fastball).

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 01:12 AM) Tyler Flowers for me if he was on the 25. I don't really hate Linebrink, but I wish he could learn to stay healthy. Huh?

Competitors for the open bullpen slot
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) Phil Rogers said he is only hitting 90 on the gun. That makes a big difference. He could be hitting 99 for all I care. He's sporting a WHIP of over 1.6 the last 4 years. He's hot garbage.

Competitors for the open bullpen slot
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) Cabrera with a terrible outing today, he has no chance of making the opening day roster. And shame on anybody who thought he had a chance in hell before the spring started. He's AAA filler. Nothing more.

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
Pierre for me. I hate his game. 2003 was a long time ago.

Sergio Santos story on ESPN
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=o...%26id%3d4991947 So who has insider and can post this story? Well I'd say his chances of clearing waivers have reduced quite a bit now that ESPN is pimpin' him.

Mitchell tears tendon
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) And thats why I'm worried...he was already looking like if he kept it up at this pace, he'd be replacing Pierre at leadoff 2 years from now, instead, we'll need a stop gap or have to resign Pierre (which may or may not be a bad thing). But then again, with the way sports work, for all we know he could heal very well and suddenly dominate next year. Resigning Pierre would be a REALLY, REALLY bad thing. Having to trade for him in the first place was a bad thing. I don't want to think about what he'll be two years from now. We're forced to take on reclamation projects, stopgaps and just bad players in general (Erstad) because of the inability to develop players from within. Hopefully Jordan Danks comes through.

Mitchell tears tendon
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) I can't see how its anything but bad. He misses a season at a time he needs experience. Running is a huge part of his game. What is the guarantee that he comes back anywhere near 100%? At a minimum, its something that sets him back a year. There's a decent chance it could be worse than that. That's what some aren't understanding. He was already probably two years away before this happened. Now losing an enitre year and probably needing another year just to prove he's healthy and shake off the rust pushes his timetable to 3-4 years. And as has been mentioned, you can totally cross his name off any trade list Kenny might have. His value is shot at the moment. This doesn't hurt us for 2010. But it's a huge blow for 2011 and onward.

Oh, and for those that seemed to take a small pleasure in Joe Nathan getting hurt...KARMA! Yeah, I know, he's just a prospect. Most of them fail anyway. Yawn.
