  1. I'm takin' the '91 UNLV team. That was the best team I've ever seen.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Haha wow I really need to go find a copy of that magazine. This is really cool. Sure beats doing my homework. I think it comes out tomorrow.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Sean McAdam has an article on ESPN.com about the top 5 benches in baseball. The Sox aren't mentioned. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?id=2376779 I think it's kind of laughable. Absolutely pathetic. Our bench could hang with the Cubs' starters.
  4. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) Not to be devil's advocate, but KW had to expect a pretty high price for anything from the A's. With the exception of the east coast love for NY and Boston, most baseball pundits see the Sox and A's as the top contenders for the AL title and possibly a World Series Championship. For KW to ask BB to help fix his team's biggest weakness, he had to expect something like the response he got. I admit Juan Cruz is not worthy of Brian Anderson at this point, but I doubt Beane wanted to even negotiate with the Sox. Good point. We can absolutely forget about making any kind of deal with the A's, Angels, Indians, Twins, Yankees or Red Sox. I might even throw the Blue Jays in there. No AL team (atleast one with a legitimate shot of winning their division or wc) is gonna help the World Champions.
  5. I don't doubt for a second that the Yankees won't get to the playoffs. But, once they get there, it's one and done.
  6. Hard to believe the guy is just 28. Seems like he's been with us forever. The scary thing is, he's right smack in his prime.
  7. Good article. Brian Anderson is a guy that I would have to say qualifies as being "hot." And Boone Logan has pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings.
  8. Damn, this is pretty crazy. Good ol' Soxtalk sure has come a long way.
  9. I'm behind that stage manager's decision 100%.
  10. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) God I would like to find that thread when that Koch/Foulke trade happened a couple years ago. I know Jas was one of them but alot of people said that Cotts was the interesting name in the deal cause he was good spect with impressive numbers (except his walks) He is the only one left in that deal with us in the same uniform.. Hell Koch is not even in professional baseball anymore. What a pickup. Now a reliever and one of the best/underrated relievers in the game. (probably shouldn't get too carried away for one season, but he looks like a diamond in the rough.) I'm glad I was also a "one of the many" Cotts backers when that thread about running his ass out of town was around. (Should try and look at that too.) I admit, I was critical of Cotts in the beginning. He, along with Jon Garland, taught me to have more patience with young pitchers.
  11. Y'all sleepin' on the Angels. Colon, Lackey, Weaver, Santana, and Escobar make up a very good rotation. Do I even have to mention their bullpen? The offense won't be great, but it doesn't have to be when you can pitch it and catch it like they can.
  12. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) that sums it up. Tho i think our bench should also have a super check I believe we have the best bench in the league. Am i right? It has to be the best in the AL. You typically don't see AL teams with deep benches.
  13. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) The Angels? What have they done to truely improve their team? As a vivid Yankee hater, I'll still say that they have one of the better offenses in baseball, and their staff as a whole should suck less than last year. They should be ranked in the top 5 on any power rankings. What did the Yankees do to improve? Damon? Scoring wasn't a problem for them. Why should their staff suck less? Johnson and Mussina are a year older. Wright and Pavano are both crippled. They lost their 2nd best bullpen pitcher and replaced him with Kyle Farnworth.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) Is that a joke? Most power rankings have them at 1-2 on this one they are at 4... they arent going any lower than that lol. I don't think they should be ranked over Oakland or the Angels.
  15. The ONLY worry I have with this team as of right now is middle relief. Other then that, this team is AWESOME. Offense? Check. Defense? Check. Rotation? Super check. Bench? Check.
  16. Thanks for the info everybody. The positive thing about this guy is it seems that his problems can be corrected.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) He just said they were sent to AAA
  18. His rankings are pretty solid. I still think the Yankees are getting ranked too high.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) who is montero? You don't want to know. Big ups to Josh Fields on an outstanding spring. Keep it up at Bham or Charlotte.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Imagine if the Vikings had a kicker that could make clutch field goals in 1998...I don't think John Elway goes out on top. That's how crucial a clutch kicker is. Wasn't Anderson perfect that whole season until that last kick?
  21. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Right now, it's set like this according to Cooper: Buehrle Garcia Contreras Garland Vazquez Garcia to open at home?
  22. I mentioned in another thread that I hope Sweeney, Fields, Valido, and Owens do in the minors what they've done so far in the spring. If it turns out that we need to make a move around June or July, we're gonna need as many healthy trade assets as possible. I wouldn't want to give up a Sweeney or a Fields, but I want another title.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 05:52 PM) Someone said that he was throwing his fastball consistently at 96 MPH. But he obviously doesn't have very good control because he threw one right down the cock to Justin Leone for the 3-run BOMB. Thanks.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) He's not god. Why did Danny Wright suck? Scot Schoeneweis? What happened to Marte? It took 12 months, and almost 200IP to get Contreras on track. Can we wait that long for Thornton? How come Vizcaino didn't improve? El Duque sure looked sorry for most of the season. How come Loaiza couldn't come anywhere near matching 2003 in '04? Shouldn't Coop get the blame there too? Not even Leo Mazzone is "god." But Coop does have enough of a proven track record that if he says he can fix him, it's worth a shot.
