Herald speculates on LaRoche, Buck, Toerralba
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) 3-year, $45 million for Konerko? What's Gregor smoking? I thought the same thing. I'm not sure he'd get more than $11 or $12 million a year over 2 or 3 years.

The Finer Things In Life
I like the winter beers, as well. I think that fall and winter are the best time for beers. As a matter of fact, I may have to drop by Binny's this week and take a look...

November LIST ideas?
I love the beer idea, but I understand that there are some non-beer drinkers here. Maybe that could be a second list someday. Otherwise, I like the video games idea, but my list would look a lot different than some of the others, I'm sure. Duke Nuke 'Em would be high on my list, and that's a computer game. Then there's Sim City... Other ideas: Favorite vacation spots Favorite books (another tough one, I'm sure) Favorite action movies

Will Konerko be in a White Sox uniform come 2011?
The D'Backs just declined LaRoche's option. I don't know if that means they will go after Konerko, but LaRoche might be a somewhat cheaper (and younger) option at 1st for the Sox...

I'll say yes. 2 years/$22 million with an option for a third year

LET'S MAKE A LIST - OCTOBER '10
I think The Ring is one of the scariest movies in quite a while. It proved that a PG-13 movie can be effectively scary.

LET'S MAKE A LIST - OCTOBER '10
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) Very nice touch my hat is off to you I'd be interested in reading from those that like the genre, what makes a great horror movie? The scared teenagers getting slashed just doesn't seem that difficult of a genre, perhaps that's why we have all the copy cat stuff. It seems that horror and comedies just never receive any respect. I agree. And that's why I thought Scream was such a good movie. It definitely poked fun at the genre while actually being a pretty scary movie at the same time.

LET'S MAKE A LIST - OCTOBER '10
Two of mine have made the list so far. I almost added Army of Darkness, but I ended up just including The Evil Dead. Although a horror movie, Army of Darkness is a bit more comedy. Regardless, Sam Raimi is a genius. By the way, did anyone catch the Evil Dead-esque scene in Spiderman 2?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) I would think it is stressful, but the fact LaRussa only needs a couple weeks to think about it every offseason (and Leyland too) to decide to come back proves it's a pretty nice way to early zillions. I realize Leyland was out of the game a while, but he's in no hurry to quit anymore, even though someday he's going to probably regret all those cigarettes he smoked because of the stress of managing. I can see smoking during ones 20s when people party a lot and go to the bars a lot, or smoking just on the occasions you are partying in your 20s, but anybody over the age of 30 who smokes is really pretty stupid unless they have a deathwish. Sorry about getting sidetracked, but I started thinking about the pressures of managing. I would imagine that at some point during a season, most managers think about quitting, retiring, etc. Especially guys who have been around for a long time, like LaRussa and Leyland. And some years when they say they are pondering it and leave the mdia and fans to guess, maybe they actually mean it. I would probably be very difficult to make that decision to retire. Maybe they actually need those few weeks to think about it, or maybe it is a tactic for more cash. As far as Leyland, though, for as good as a manager he is, he can smoke all he wants.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) 1B range, sorted from worst to first He might not be the worst (though he probably is), but no matter how you view it, he's bad. He's never actually been THAT bad before, so it's likely that it is an outlier (or that there are balls he would normally go after that he no longer did because of Beckham), but the best his range rate has ever been was 0.6, and he's at -29.8 for his career. That's been Konerko's MO his entire career - no range, great glove. That makes sense. His great glove probably makes many of us overlook his range, which apparently is terrible. I've always viewed 1st base as a position that doesn't require great range...as compared to 2nd or SS for sure. I wouldn't turn down Dunn at 1st base, but I would imagine his defense overall is much worse than Konerko's.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
FWIW... •CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam predicts that Paul Konerko is "likely staying put" with the White Sox. It's merely a prediction, and who knows what he's basing it on. But, maybe the two sides have already begun talking.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:32 AM) Yes but Jackson isn't worth it either, so what's your point? Our rotation coming through big time as well as the bullpen is about the only way we'll win anything of significance next season. We don't have the bats to do much of significance. That's true right now, and it may hold true when the season opens in 2011. Unless some wheeling and dealing takes place and/or the payroll is increased, the Sox will be hard-pressed to add a significant bat. The pitching will be very important for sure.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:35 AM) Is his range really that bad? I had the same question. I hear that a lot...that Konerko has terrible range. I personally don't think his range is that bad. It might be below normal, but not terrible. Maybe his ability to make big plays (he can pick balls out of the dirt with the best of them) masks his range. Either way, I'll take him at first next year.

Don't tease me Trib...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:34 AM) He always takes a couple weeks after the season and decides to come back. Time off is overrated. By spring training, he'll be raring to go. It's a pretty good gig if one can handle all the second guessing. And the bucks the managers get paid, it's probably pretty easy to handle second guessing. I bet Piniella will get bored as well unless he has a cushy TV gig. I would think the job of a major league manager could be quite stressful. A manager like LaRussa and even Ozzie probably don't care that much about the second guessing of the fans. They can't really, and be successful. I agree that Pinella might get bored. He's a volatile guy, and all he's really known for a long time is managing...and he's been pretty good at it. You never know, he might resurface somewhere with another team.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) As far as the age difference and stuff. Is it a bad thing that I have a crush on the main chick from ICarly? Is that pedophile territory? I agree she's very cute...and her being 17, I'll stick with "cute". Her sidekick is 18, and I find her quite attractive, too. With three kids, either iCarly or Victorious is on at least on TV in my house seemingly all day. There are way too many good-looking teenagers on those shows.

2010 Fall TV Thread
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 17, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) I was just telling a buddy last week I can't remember the last time there was a "down" episode of Mad Men. I guess I spoke too soon. Tonight felt incredibly rushed. I honestly thought the last 20 min was a dream Don was having or something, but they never had him wake up. I have no idea where that episode came from. Knowing Don Draper, the happiness he thinks he found can't last. I'm sure next season will have more stuggles for him, and I can't imagine things continuing as well as they ended. On a side note, how does January Jones so effectively play such a miserable character all of the time?

Which Sox home grown talent will have the best career with the Sox?
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) With the remarkable amount of time Beckham spent wallowing in the farm he should be disqualified. Beckham is a product of Georgia. Or Beckham. Home grown talent infers guys more like Morel IMO. Sale is DQ'd also. I also think Sale will end up disappointing a lot of people over here in the long run. Well maybe not the long run. May at latest is when I expect it. I assume this is sarcasm? He was in the minors for less than a season before being brought up.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) The past 2 weeks of TERRIERS have been fantastic. It is easily one of the best shows on right now. Last night's episode was superb. I hope more people start watching it.
