Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
GoodAsGould replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This is the same defense that manhandled the Packers O-Line and Aaron Rodgers, so very nice seeing our O-Line step up and resemble the group from the first pre-season game. I actually think the left side might possibly be the stronger side of the line oddly enough. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) No, but people that have seen him realize that he's not a prospect. Have you seen him? The one time I saw him on NESN, he looked very bad. Why would it be such a big deal, rosters expand can bring up both him and Owens.
-
Yeah, we dont really need another position player as much as an extra arm. That being said I definitely wouldnt mind Cook being up in September.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) Good lord you folks really enjoy missing the forest for the trees. Keep digging into the details of a hypothetical... Oh if only I said D2 instead of softball, THEN it would have made perfect sense. Forget I ever said anything and dive back into the stat page. All im saying is when you go to the extreme like that, it takes away from the point your trying to make. I dont know anything about the player in question so have no idea why he went in 15th round but unless you have some specific reason comparing your softball league to division 1 is pretty pointless.

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread
GoodAsGould replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
May and Walsh didnt even lose a set, thats pretty damn impressive to me. I dont think they even lost a set in the last Olympics either, dominating a sport like that is more impressive than running in a straight line in my opinion. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 08:36 AM) I guess you missed it, because there was a point in there. The level of competition and the tools of the player do make a big difference in what someone's future will be at the next levels. Statistics aren't everything. I know the point you were trying to make, but using your comparison really didnt justify it. If you compared it someone with a .400 plus in division 2 or some insane highschool stats would of been better. Using your softball stats is so far away in talent level it takes away from what you were going for if that makes sense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) I hit over .700 in my softball league... And I don't think I should be drafted. Competition and tools are very important. Are you honestly comparing a softball league full of old people to college baseball?

Poreda's name comes up when talking 5th starter.
GoodAsGould replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I want Poreda up with the big league club out of the pen when rosters expand, but for the next start Id go with Egbert or Whisler. -
Personally I dont think anything is wrong with soxtalk, more members are joining every week and some of them very active. People are pretty opiniated though which I guess leads to confrontations when someone else disagrees. Also, not that is a bad thing but a lot of people joined after the WS and dont understand the game of baseball as much as others. This leads to more unpopular opinions that leads to confrontations.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Um what? What in that did you not understand? Greg Olsen is eventually going to be the starter and the kid we drafted this year looks good and should fill in 2nd behind Olsen nicely. -
Expecting to sweep any team on the road is a little bit ridiculous, yes Oakland isnt a very good team but sweeping is no easy task, ill gladly take the 2 of 3 from them and hopefully atleast 2 of 3 from seattle too.

Yeah the TE we drafted looks like he can be very effective. Also he is such a huge guy so can be used in blocking and passing situations, basicly next season he should be 2nd behind Olsen on the depth chart and clark should be gone. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Our OL is awful. Not even considering Faneca really hurts now. Grossman is a bad football player. His throws were behind guys, in front of guys, and over-thrown. Your honestly blaming Grossman? Im not saying he was great by any means but not a lot of QB's are going to produce given that protection and the weapons we have to throw too. Bennet dropped another pass ofcourse, so far very unimpressive in recieving. The fact Grossman ended up 9 for 15 is shocking to me. Next week Orton should start again and if he plays fairly well id assume would get the starting gig. -

All things considering Grossman didnt do too bad given the performance of the O-Line. I dont understand why we are never capable of picking up the blitz. I know Williams will be a big boost towards end of season but we definitely need to address the line in next years draft too, get some guards that can push the line hopefully. -

I really hope James Blake ends up beating Gonzalez in this final set. Gonzalez is someone ill never root for again after he didnt admit the ball hit off his racket and cost Blake a point. -
I always circle the other option. But im half pakistani, quarter german, and quarter italian.
-
I wouldnt mind McPherson, Beltre, or Zimmerman. Zimmerman would ofcourse prob cost the whole farm but you do what it takes to bring an impact player in to a contending team. McPherson can be next years Carlos Quentin.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) They also lost their gold glove CF'er, lost their Cy Young winning ace, have a spotty bullpen, and lost their starting RF'er in Michael Cuddyer. The first 2 dont count lol, they got draft picks for one and prospects for another. They lost Neshak who stunk this year and Cuddyer.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) And you have won how many World Series rings running an organization??? I dont know where you come off saying that, everyone is entitled to their opinion.... It's is not like there havent been a number of times people here have questioned a move that turned out to be a disaster. Sometimes we are wrong but just because your not a GM of a team doesnt mean your wrong about something.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Why is he called "slayer"? A nickname he got for his way with the ladies. -
To be fair, Gio has played 2 very poor offenses in his major league starts. I also like the attitude etc. that Swisher brings to the team although some find it overated. Next year and the rest of his contract Id hope Swisher performs better, everyone is capable of having a poor season.
-
This has been one of the most frustrating teams to watch for a long time, for me anyways, and yet we are somehow in first. In short, I love this team
-
I actually think Richard can be a very effective bullpen pitcher. If he starts that would be the real travesty.

After Washburn and Byrd, KW is looking at this list
GoodAsGould replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:56 AM) Looking back realistically, notwithstanding all the b--ching and moaning, there are only a few players that have been traded that you could make legit arguments that the Sox are worse off for not having... Gio Gonzalez and Sweeney (debateable, and the Sox would definitely not be better off THIS season, in terms of position to make the playoffs) Chris B. Young (debateable, although long-term still looks to favor the D-Backs, it's not quite so clear-cut...and Young still isn't a sure thing...to be anything more than Mike Cameron, Jr.) also depends on what get back in return for Javier, of if we make the playoffs and he has a win or two there Frank Francisco (we wouldn't have won it all in 05 without Everett) Matt Guerrier (while Guerrier has had a substantial Twins' career, Marte was VERY good for a while and was still a serviceable, albeit undependable in the latter stages of '05, lefty reliever...SUMMARY=at times fantastic/electric, like Thornton, but maddeningly inconsistent) And, in all fairness to Thornton, he has been overused/overexposed recently due to the Linebrink injury...which Thornton acknowledged was a big reason for the struggles in the final BOS game. the francisco and rupe trade was for the first everett trade in which we didnt make playoffs. I think it was Rauch and Majewski the 2nd time
