Ben Wallace Agrees to Sign w/ Bulls
GoodAsGould replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) It looks like the Chandler for Brown and Smith deal is going to go down. If I'm Otis Smith, I try to sell John Paxson the idea of doing a DeShawn Stevenson for J.R Smith sign and trade deal. Stevenson doesn't look like he's going to re-sign with the Magic and he wants $4-5M a season for about 4. The reason I suggest this and why I think it would make sense for the Bulls is because it would be beneficial for you to have a defensive stopper at SG, so you can let Ben Gordon become instant offense off the bench again. He's got the perfect size at 6'5 and I think it would make a lot of sense for both teams. Don't know if I could see Smith and Gordon co-existing on the same team when they both play the same position. Nah we just drafted a defensive stopper at SG and last thing we need with a front court of Wallace and Brown is a SG that cant score. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) the dude in my avatar hit two balls that seriously musta cleared all the trees down the left field line at the hoover met during the SEC tourny....and you are right, that stadium his huge who is the dude in your avatar?

Id love that trade.... with JR Smith this team could go into 2 different modes..... Can have Kirk and the SG we just drafted and lock down on defense... assuming we sign Ben Wallace as well. Or put in Gordon and JR Smith in and unload on offense.

The Official Cliff Politte Sucks Thread

He looked pretty good that 1st inning against pittsburgh... but than -
Why are we burning a guy who has been improving and just a few weeks ago got the vote of confidence from Ozzie. Ever since than he has hit better and his fielding like always has been great. So why exactly would KW look for a new CF? Also when has his avg. hurt the team....someone said we are like a NL team playing in the AL..... well than why is it we have the best offense in the AL? and why is it when the entire NL is getting rocked by the AL that we are the team with the 2nd best record in the majors and clearly better than the team ahead of us?

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) And then when McCarthy struggles, it'll be time for someone else, maybe a trade. And then if the guy the Sox trade for struggles, it'll be "what a horrible trade that was" and we'll all splooge all over the guy they traded away. It gets old. You'd never guess this team was 52-27. Except all the other starters proved they deserve a spot in the rotation b4 on the whitesox. And Brandon is young and people are willing to be patient with plus he should be better than what Vazquez is giving anyways. Just because a team is playing well doesnt mean there isnt room for improvement. Remember the goal is to win the WS not just make the playoffs.

Who won the world series the year you were born?

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Mets vs Bo Sox 1986 Of course the curse of the Babe continued with Buckner being a victim of it. I was actually born exactly on Game 1 of the series. ^^^^ minus the game 1 thing. -
There is no point in trading for a backup catcher. He isnt going to play at all in the playoffs and neither Blanco or Widger are going to be pitch hitters either. Next season Stewart will be called up and be our backup catcher and depending on how long AJ stays possibly our future starting catcher.

Official 2006 NBA Draft Thread
GoodAsGould replied to AssHatSoxFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I was pretty mad on draft day but now I have cooled off.... We still have F/A to go through so as long as it doesnt consisnt of only signing guys like Nene/Wallace I think ill be alright. -
Yeah all I read about Castro was that he is very very talented. If he had the stamina he could be a top of the rotation starter w/ his stuff. That being said he was only in high A last season so for a team in contention for the playoffs(the rangers) it would be like us still having boone logan up.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) Where did this POST come from and why? I am thinking we don't need SS help, but we are talking about pitching in this thread. What's up? welcome to soxtalk

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 05:07 AM) Uribe is owed 4.15 million dollars next year, 4.45 million if you count the buy out. I can't imagine the White Sox upgrade at short without ridding themselves of Uribe. Perhaps a prospect isn't needed, and maybe the Red Sox would be willing to take on that cash, I just can't imagine they or anyone would for a utility infielder. Ok but why would we want Cora instead of Uribe. The point would be to upgrade the SS not to shed payroll.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 04:48 AM) What about Alex Cora? Cora's name always came up as someone that Williams liked, dare I say coveted. Not that he's struggling, he's actually performing really well, but I wonder if a Cora for Uribe, prospect/cash would work. umm why would we trade Uribe for a lesser player in Cora and than some prospects? And I dont care if Cora is hitting a higher avg. he would be a downgrade.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 03:54 AM) Yeah they sure broke out the bats the last time he won. Hasn't it already been mentioned 100 times that Freddy is intentionally taking speed off his fastball for more movement? What does that have anything to do with it? The point is his era is still 4.66 after he just pitched an 8 inning shutout and thats up from 3.87 last season and a career 3.97. And he cant get the fastball like he used to even when he tries...Obviously if he could what would be the point of changing. At least with Garland we know its not his stuff thats been the problem its all in his head.
-
Yeah I kind of hope Freddy Garcia isnt in the starting rotation next season.... his record looks good so far but he has had a lot of run support. But on the mound for the most part he has impressed me less than Garland.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) See also Matt Leinart. See also Sean May and Vince Young and 100's of other athletes who always say they will say but than go.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Just remember letting BMac walk could f*** the rotation for years to come, people are allowing his less than impressive bullpen performances to cloud thier judgement, luckily KW isn't so foolish. How do you figure? B-Mac still hasnt really proven himself in the bigs and everybody in our starting rotation is still locked up for next season. Buehrle is the closest one to f/a if im correct and id hope we would resign him of all our SP's. Also we have many other SP prospects too... Phillips and Haeger dominating AAA and Broadway, Lumsden, and to a lesser extent Liotta in AA.
-
Im starting to become not as high on McCarthy as I once was... if we could add Tejeda I wouldnt mind parting with B-Mac. Think of the offensive power we would be....

Two main characters to die in last Harry Potter book
GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in SLaM
eh after they killed off Dumbedore so easily just like that I dont think this one will be as good as the first 5. Notice i didnt say 6 =p. Also I dont see how Harry has the power to take down Voldemort who is like 10 times the wizard Harry is. -
Carter is crushing the ball but wasnt he just pathetic in low A at the begining of the season?
-
Even if we signed him he would probably be the last guy out of the pen. So who cares if he is old when now with the pen shaping up it seems whoever we turn to besides montero/politte they have been successful.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) I love it when people bring back C-Lee memories for me. My favorite one is the time someone on the Twins, I think it was, hit a routine fly ball to C-Lee with a man on 3rd. Instead of getting the ball back to the infield as fast as possible to try to get the tagging runner out, he just stood there for about 3-4 seconds admiring his catch. I love it when people like you forget how good of a player he was. Everyone raved about Rowand that season but with Maggz and Thomas down Clee was probably the MVP of the team. And while he admires his HR's and it bit him in the ass once he is still one helluva ballplayer. Magglio was supposedly done after that freak injury too he seems to performing fine to me for the Tigers. Im glad we have Scott Podsenick especially for what he did last season and what he does on the base paths. But that doesnt take away that Clee would be one of the best hitters on this team or any team in the majors.

Joe Crede's bright future v. Josh Fields, Ryan Sweeney
GoodAsGould replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) From what I've read, Getz is purely a utility player that will be a good defensive 2B/SS off the bench, but little else. His ceiling isn't that high, and he'll never hit for much average, power, or OBP. His ceiling isnt as high as some players but i refuse to label a guy in his first season at AA as nothing more than a future utility guy. Right now his avg. is in the .260's but by end of season it could easily be .280's or higher and from what i heard he walks. In the majors I think he could be a productive guy at the top of the lineup which he wont need to hit for power. -
QUOTE(mac9001 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I wouldn't exactly call 5 HRs in 200+ ABs hitting for power. look at the last 2 seasons and say 5 HR's isnt starting the power stroke for sweeney.
-
It seems that Sweeney is hitting for power finally... I know part of it is due to the Charlotte park but we play in a hitters park as well so its all good.
