Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
GoodAsGould replied to DePloderer's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
that was a pretty amazing and huge comeback for australia.....the announcers were starting to get bored b4 the rally began. -
I think the hitting coach is kind of overated anyways..... especially on a veteran team like ours. I mean every team needs one but I wouldnt credit our hitting coach for the way the team is hitting and I wouldnt discredit the hitting coach if the team wasnt hitting. Personally I believe the pitching coach is much more important.

What round were our current Sox drafted in?
GoodAsGould replied to Timoperezrulez's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 01:58 AM) It really doesn't matter where someone was drafted, there's too many baseball players and there are too many that don't come from the draft. I hate the draft in the MLB, I love the NFL better. Im the exact opposite... In MLB you can find good guys in any round and they rounds go by 100 times faster... While in the NFL outside of the 1st day you can find players that contribute but most of them are cut within a couple of years. A course there are exceptions but normally. -
Did I miss something? Because last time I checked we had the 2nd best record in the AL and have won the last 2 series against our main competition to win the division. We have been doing all this while the strength of our team(the starting rotation) has under-performed. There is no doubt in my mind that Garcia and Garland will at least pitch better than they are now and we dont face the Indians until Sept I think either..... so it gives us a break against possibly the best hitting team in the AL. Also I'll start worrying about the Tigers when they are able to beat us... so far we have won 5 out of 6 against them.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) I think the Score, aside from White Sox games, is intolerable. When I actually have had the Score on, it seems that they have 10 minutes of commercials for every 10 minutes of programming. That is soooooo true.... Its one thing I hated about it when I used to listen to the score a lot... id drive to harper a 15-20 min drive and more than half the time it would be on commercials.....

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 01:56 AM) If he was more than a mediocre coach, the 80's Bears win 3 Super Bowls, but that's a different argument. Because even though your not old enough to drink now you know everything about the NFL in the 80's.... anyways I watched the 1st quarter and I cant find it entertaining..... but I have trouble finding college football entertaining too I kind of just like seeing the best players go at it(NFL). I can watch college basketball but thats probably thanks to it being a guard dominated league and the refs dont blow their whistles non-stop.
-
so far this season its our hitting that has carried the team not the pitching..... but i guess Walker doesnt deserve any credit for that.

What round were our current Sox drafted in?
GoodAsGould replied to Timoperezrulez's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kind of funny to see Chris Widger drafted than most people on the team yet he is possibly the least talented. -
Thats because everyone on this board and sports fans in general tend to over-react over every little thing... we have the 2nd best record in the majors and sometimes with the attitude you see on this board you would think we are 3rd or 4th in our division and not close to making the playoffs.

The guy reminds me of Medea in Greek mythology..... how can someone kill their children to get revenge on your spouse.. or ex-spouse.....

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) You didn't read his quote... Jon is clearly whining about fan expectations and is making himself look like an ass in the process. He's complained about booing in the past as well. If he'd simply not go there, he wouldn't have these problems. or maybe you just minterpreted the quote... or maybe I did but it doesnt look like he is b****ing about fan expectations to me. To me he is saying the expectations are high and he isnt reaching them atm... and he knows it but is sick of being asked questions about it every game. And its dumb for people to say well if your sick of it why dont you start pitching better.... because that would be making the assumption he isnt trying to pitch good which is kind of dumb if you think about it.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Then maybe he needs to say "no comment" instead of complaining about fan expectations. Common sense would dictate that a pitcher with a 6.19 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and .310 BAA shouldn't be saying anything negative about the fans at all. Apparently Jon lacks common sense. He isnt complaining about fan expectations... he said the fans expect more and im not producing that and I dont need to answer the same questions over and over again.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) I don't think anybody here "hates" Garland. People are upset because Jon came into the league with a lot of hype and took forever to develop into a good pitcher. After doing so, he was rewarded with a generous contract and responded by pitching like Jamie Navarro. Jon's not nearly as bad as this year's numbers suggest, but he's not that great either. He has mediocre stuff and gets hit hard when he doesn't locate well or his sinker flattens out. In other words, he has to really be on to be the guy that we saw last year. And as we saw in his last start, Garland also has the tendency to lose focus on the mound when he gets a few bad breaks. It's difficult for fans to defend a guy like that when he says anything at all to the press about booing. I like Jon as a person and hope that he gets through this, but he needs to STFU about fan reaction. Even if it's justified, don't say ANYTHING nevative at all about the fans to the press. That might have to do with the fact that (1) Anderson's a rookie, (2) he's an excellent CF, and (3) he doesn't whine about the fans booing him when he doesn't execute. Its not as much whining as he is sick of answering the same questions.... and you guys act like he is going out there sucking on purpose.

Mac and Harry fight in studio
GoodAsGould replied to Timoperezrulez's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah Ive never been a big fan of Harry either.... really Mac is what keeps that show together and makes it work so well.... so maybe thats why he gets treated better........... -
I think now I know why I didnt really miss soxtalk so much when I couldnt get 2 my cmp for 2 weeks.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:15 AM) Does everyone still think i am crazy for saying there wasn't a chance in hell that he came close to rowand's 2005 offensive numbers? Does jphat still think podsednik is a good fielder because he hustles, is cute, and is fast? No one unless they didnt care much for Anderson in the first place thought he would be this bad either.... at the plate of people starting in MLB he could possibly be the worse....
-
If they beat him outside of the store he might actually have a case..... not saying he should but he could.
-
I dont want to give up any prospect worth a damn over Reggie Sanders..... Unless its an extreme impact player(soriano) I really wouldnt mind just sticking with Anderson in CF anyways.
-
lol this is his first rant..... if it was a common thing id agree with everyone telling Garland to shutup but maybe you all should get off his back a little. Right now he isnt pitching as well and he isnt getting lucky bounces..... but he will pick it up. If anyone was expecting him to win 18 games than you deserve to be dissapointed.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Aboz made better posts in '05. I liked the '05 Aboz better. I liked the Aboz of 04 better
-
Yeah Ortiz would of won MVP in a lot of previous seasons but I think A-Rod was more deserving of it based on offense alone anyways. What especially put him over the top is the ability to get the SB.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) I know it's been said here by some, but I agree that if Tracey can have consistent control, he could be a Scot Shields type out of the pen. This is kind of off topic but didnt Shields throw something like a 200 plus pitches in a college or highschool game? Id like to see Tracey do that
