QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) I'm with you. I like art a lot, and I know a little, but the idea that there is a right/wrong or objective good/bad of any art is laughable. You may be able to see various level of skill in the creation of it, but the enjoyment is entirely personal and subjective. We have stuff up in our house because we like it, and in a lot of cases, because it tells a story or reminds us of a place we went or something important in our lives. I think with the really abstract stuff you have a point, but for lack of the better word "normal" art there definitely is good/bad and right/wrong.... that maybe a casual person wouldn't notice but someone who lives for art would. Just like movies... some people enjoy bad movies...that's fine and all you like what you like but end of the day it's a s***ty movie.

I like oil painting art and a lot of the stuff during the Renaissance era, ever since the 1900's though the big thing has been abstract art and the majority of that I'm not a fan. Even most of Picasso's stuff I just don't find very well done.....

QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) Definitely. Certainly doesn't hurt that they've faced the 11th easiest schedule in the Eastern Conference this season (26th easiest overall), but they've done a good job handling injuries. If their schedule was a bit harder, it's pretty obvious they wouldn't be 19-6 right now, however. When your team is winning, injuries or not, there's no reason for any player to ever speak poorly of a coach. That was my main point. The thing against that is we have played more games than most teams while dealing with injuries and I think played the most road games in the league or close to it. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) An 18 year old throwing 90 is not commonplace. 90 is an average major league fastball. The only thing is whenever someone is scouted 86-90 you have to assume its more likely 86-88 if that. -

I think the players actually like Thibs and he isn't as much a dictator as Skiles/Collins though which separates him from them. I don't have any inside info or anything just with Skiles he seemed like Ozzie in a way that it was his clubhouse no ifs and or buts about it.... everything was Ozzie/Skiles. I don't see that in Thibs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) Cincinnati has a real problem with never selling out their stadium/being on TV, the Rams are agitating for a new stadium and have already been in L.A., and then there's poor Buffalo. When you've got a list of 4+ franchises that are struggling and really bieng supported by the rest of the league, you're not going to expand. I think Cincy will be fine if they have some sustained success, Jacksonville has actually been pretty competitive most seasons and still get nothing. I think fans show up for Rams games so they might need a new stadium but just like the Vikings I don't think you move them from a city that has fans who show up. I honestly don't know anything about Buffalo to comment on them... still don't think they can have it as bad as Jacksonville. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 07:52 AM) I really don't believe those words at all. I think he's trying to keep support for the LA Project going, but he doesn't want to undermine one of the franchises that could move there by saying their name in public. Really there should not be a team in Jacksonville, they don't support them at all.....so if they make a new team in LA they'd have to find 2 cities for a new team and the Jaguars. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 06:10 AM) I called them a sleeper team coming into this season. They obviously don't have a bonafide superstar on their team anymore, but as you said, they do have depth. And in this short season, you need to go 10 deep now, and Denver do that. An interesting question to ask also, going forward, if you were building a team, would you rather Melo on a max contract, or Gallinari for 4/42? Plus they still have rights over Wilson Chandler and J.R Smith I believe once they get out of China? I think JR Smith is a f/a but they have the rights to Chandler. They played really good basketball last season too, the problem is while that works great during reg. season especially one like this.... I don't see them being a major contender in the playoffs. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Who knows what that is attributable to. My guess is the more obvious health concerns/knowledge rather than it not being advertised in commercials. It's advertised plenty in movies. I think moreso it has to do with money being tight and cigarettes being expensive.

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) I was speaking to why we raised the age to 21 from 18 back in the 1970s and early 1980s. IIRC states would be denied federal road doallars if their drinking age was under 21. But you confirm my point. But to your point, are you suggesting that 18-20 year olds are forced into irrespossible behavior? If they are getting drunk and driving because they can't get into a bar they will then drink less at a bar and not drive drunk? They have to get home from the bar. The best argument I have heard from university presidents for a return to 18 is it drives the drinking underground where there is less supervision. They believe with a lower drinking age they can better monitor kids drinking and when they have a problem they will be more willing to seek out help. I can understand it being 19, only because at 18 you have some kids who are still in highschool and probably not the best idea to have kids in highschool having such an easy access to alcohol but at this point being over 21 I guess the law doesn't bother me as much.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) So for a little backstory, I had two dogs pass away within the last two months. My basset was 13 years old and had cancer and needed to be put down(thanksgiving night), and my Chocolate lab was 11 and had a heart attack 3 weeks ago and didnt make it to the vet. So we werent really looking for new pets, but a rescue situation was presented to us, and we ended up with Fred and Wilma here As long as you aren't one of the people that go to the dogpark and tell everyone how your dog is a rescue dog 15 times good for you...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) This makes ZERO sense. How civil were the fans for the Pacers/Pistons brawl at the palace? American sports are on a much smaller scare compared to, you know, THE REST OF THE WORLD. There's hundreds of soccer leagues in the middle of the season right now, and this one riot is supposed to make it seem like a frequent occurrence? Yes, it happens, but it's also because it's the top sport in most countries around the world and the pure volume of soccer matches outnumbers anything that happens in the US. You have to know that soccer matches in general can get really rowdy; before, during, and after the game......Now obviously there have been ugly incidents for all sports including throughout America but typically soccer fans are on another level than anything close to football fans in America. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Yeah, but there are guys on the Heat/Kings/Wizards who do put in the effort. Either they are lower on the roster so you don't notice, or the team is so much less talented that it doesn't matter. Not every member of the Bulls has a legendary work ethic either. I don't think the Heat belong on that list of being lazy, Wade/Lebron/Bosh don't put up those stats because they are lazy.... -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) What? You're crazy. Deron had a great tournament, but in terms of stats during their college careers, Dee Brown had better numbers and was more consistent. Even in 2004-2005 he had better numbers and he was an All-American, Sporting News Player of the Year, and Big Ten Player of the Year. Edit: and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. 2nd Edit: and in his senior year he won the Bob Cousy award. People just don't remember how awesome Dee Brown was. Deron got the high draft pick and did really well in the NBA, so people assume he was the better college player. But he wasn't. Anyone that watched the 05 team could tell D-Will was the team leader and ran the offense of that team more than anyone else. Dee Brown was a solid college player but he wasn't Adam Morrison or Steph Curry or anywhere close to their levels. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) Well that's just not true. Lots of the best college bball players can't make it. And a lot of players on NBA rosters weren't very good in college. The NBA is just a different game because of the athletes involved. More skilled guys are out there that don't make it to the NBA because of athleticism and size alone. One of my favorite players of all time, Dee Brown, is a great example of that. He was probably better than D-Will as a college player. But he's a small 6' in shoes kind of guy that just can't compete in the NBA. D-Will was much better Dee Brown and it really showed during the tournament... Brown was just more flashy because of his speed. Obviously their are a few players that are great college players but not good enough for NBA but I was referring to majority. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:13 AM) The NBA and College game are pretty different. In college you have many more system offenses and you dont just watch the same iso/screen every single possession. I like college basketball more than the NBA, it has nothing to do with talent. Some people like High School sports, I doubt they argue its because a HS player is better than a NBA player. If you enjoy watching a lot of different styles, you may enjoy college. If you like watching 3-4 plays run by the most talented players on the planet, youll probably like NBA. Most people that are big into highschool sports are either working in the field or from small towns where those sports are more important throughout the town, if you lived in a college town I could see enjoying the college game since thats your local team but most everyone here is Chicago area or some other relatively big city. -

I just find it silly that someone enjoys college basketball but doesn't enjoy a league where all the best kids from college basketball go to play.... doesn't make much sense. Now, March Madness is different animal in that its a huge tournament single elimination and kind of nuts.... but I'm referring to the regular season. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) I think for a lot of people it's the fact that you've got 82 games of pretty meaningless basketball. It's not must-see every night because they can lose the game and it just won't matter that much. In college basketball, if you're a contender, every single game matters, even the ones against crap teams. Crap teams, btw, that can still beat you. crap teams dont beat the top teams.... they beat the mediocre teams like Illinois. Now in the NBA, you got the Bucks beating the Heat and the Warriors beating the Bulls and Mavericks... more likely in the NBA will a crap team beat an elite team. -

Outside of March Madness college basketball is a joke, I also don't get the argument the NBA is just a a few teams with collections of superstars when college basketball is similar. Kentucky/Duke/UNC/etc. are all the top teams every year because they recruit the superstar recruits. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) In my school district we have a no cut policy. No one is ever cut from any of our squads. BTW our varsity football team just won our district for the 4th or 5th year in a row. Notice you aren't guaranteed to play, or even wear a uniform on game day, but you are never cut. If I'm never going to get a chance to play I might as well be a waterboy in that case..... I'm assuming your talking about highschool in which case I'd rather play on the JV team than sit on varsity and if you aren't good enough to play on JV you probably need to take up a different sport/hobby.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Why? Because they haven't won the Superbowl? They're 4 years removed from a 19-0 season but for 1 minute of play. In 2008 they lost Brady for a year but still managed to go 11-5. In 2009 they lost Welker the game before the playoffs started. In 2010 they went 14-2 and had the best record in the league, ultimately losing to the Dirty Sanchez. In 2011 they're back in the Superbowl. If that's "not very effective" I dunno what would be. Fact is the Patriots, Packers and Steelers all have a system that works regardless of the players. Some years it's easier, some years it's tougher, but year in year out those guys get good players and have a winning culture. Yes, there's a lot of props that go to Belichick, but it's still the culture. If the Bears could in some way copy that, why not be all for it? Their record has been good I'm saying drafting/fa wise the past few seasons its been pretty terrible.
