Prior sticks it to the Cubs
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) imo, prior will walk when his contract with the cubs is up. no information there. just my opinion. Why shouldn’t he? He is young and has some very good years ahead of him if he can stay away from the DL bug. If he chooses to sign with an organization that is serious about winning, then he’ll have a couple of rings in his fingers. I mean, look at Garland. He has a WS ring already! An escape route out of Wrigley is the stairway to success for Mark Prior.

The mets
Pedro Martinez-Tom Glavine-Kris Benson is a very good 1-3 punch in the NL East. The three of them give you innings and can be on their game almost every start. Even though Glavine is 39, he can still put up some good numbers. Not to mention that his home is Shea Stadium. Everyone knows what you’ll get from Pedro and Benson has some pretty good stuff. The offense is one of the best in the NL, if not, in the ML. From top to bottom they’ll have men on base for Delgado, Beltran, and Wright.

Can Tejada be a reality?
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) If you think Bruce Levine is reporting falsities simply because the Cubs organization now has interest in Tejada, I really have no rebuttal. The guy reports what he hears. It's known the Sox are currently over-budget, the Sox would be hard-pressed to trade similar contracts, and Tejada would almost surely mean yet another raise in payroll. Even if the guy is just connecting the dots, it makes an lot of sense to me. The hell with Levine. I much rather listen to some of the dim soxtalk posts that we have here in this message board instead of Bruuuuuce. Yeah, I went there.

Marlins set to sign Olivo
QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Yeah I remember everybody going crazy here because we gave up "the greatest catcher of all time" in Olivo. Well... we were getting Ben Davis in return who was hitting .092 at the time we got him.

Joe Borowski & Pokey Reese sign with Marlins
The Marlins are going to suck so these signings aren’t that bad. Though Reese can’t hit for s***, he’ll play some decent defense and Borowski is a veteran who can be of some influence to all the youngins the Marlins have in that young roster of theirs.

Catch-All Anything Thread
I just went outside this morning to get my mail (I’ve been indoors the last two days) and I noticed there’s absolutely no snow on my front lawn. All I saw were leaves from this past fall. Not to mention that it’s currently 41 degrees. Not too often does it feel like Spring here in Northwest Indiana, two days before New Year’s.

O's close to signing Burnitz??
I predict Jacque Jones will be their next RF...

Damon signs with the Yankees
I haven’t sat down and actually thought about the 06 Red Sox (cause I could care less about them) but now that I read some of the posts posted in this thread, I don’t see the Red Sox getting anywhere near being the AL East Division champs. And if their goal is to be the Wild Card winners every year, than that isn’t going to work this time. The AL has improved, for the exception of a couple of teams and one of those being the Red Sawx.

Kevin Millwood to Texas
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) So much for the Red Sox having any chance to upgrade their rotation through the FA market now. Millwood's a hell of a risk though. He's going from a good pitcher's park in 2005 from Jacobs, to one of the best hitting parks in baseball in Arlington. Still, Jon Daniels has upgraded that rotation, and the AL West should definitely be an interesting 3 team race to watch next season. On paper he has. Like you stated before, Millwood is going from Jacobs Field to Arlington Park. The ball flies down there in Texas and I don’t see Millwood with an ERA close to what he had last season. Probably an ERA just below 4 is possible.

Indians expected to sign Jason Johnson
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) ... and we are starting the season with a guy who has a 99+ mph fastball closing instead of a guy with an 88+ mph fastball closing. Don’t want to hi-jack this thread, but the fact that Jenks has a 96+mph fastball scares me. Plus the fact that he has gotten injured before for that very same reason. He looked healthy last year (seemed to get tired after being used in back-to-back games) but you still have to think about the fact that we have two closers (Jenks and Hermanson) who might go on the shelf for some while in 06. Our bullpen isn’t as strong as it was last year. Hopefully we can get some arms to replace Marte and Vizcaino.

Cubs after Tejada, could move Prior
I haven’t read this whole thread so I’m just going to post my opinion on Hendry if he does give up Prior for Tejada, strait up. Giving up Mark Prior just for Tejada is more than enough. Prior is 25 yrs. old and the injuries that he’s gone through have all been freak injuries. Colliding into an infielder and being hit by a line drive isn’t the same as Wood’s lack of good mechanics and frequent arm injuries. Just look at Prior when he was injury-free back in 03. He pitched in 30gms, went 200+ innings, had over 200k’s and gave up just 15hr’s. Those #’s certify you a CY. If he doesn’t run into any more DL stints, then he can post similar #’s next season. On the other hand you have one of the best SS’s in all of baseball (he gives you both offense and defense) he is 29 yrs. old, and will receive $48 million the next four years. Yet the reason why the Orioles are looking to move Miguel is because Tejada has the desire to play for a winning organization. If he ends up in the northside of Chicago then he’s not going to be in a winning team. Not with the way that the Cubs rotation will look like. That’s where I lost some respect for Tejada. He’s being paid so why go out and say that you want out? If Hendry does trade Prior, then they won’t be any different than the Cincinnati Reds. They have all that offense yet no pitching. All that wins you is 4th place in your division. If the Marlins and White Sox have shown us anything the last three years is that pitching and defense wins you ballgames. With pitching being the #1 priority.

Bears vs Packers
I don’t think this year can get any better. The White Sox give us an early Christmas present and now the Bears clinch the NFC North on Christmas Day!
-
Scrooge?
Every year we put up Christmas lights outside the house (at least 6k+ lights) but this year we barely put any up. The snow came earlier than usual, hence the reason why we only put up a Santa Claus, snowman, and candle light figurines. But you have to at least have a Christmas tree inside your house. Christmas would not be the same, IMO, without a tree.

Christmas 2005: Where Are You?
Right now it’s nothing but football. In a couple of hours my family and I will be off to Winnetka where my cousins live. After that it’s off to Church. And then its back home, here in Gary, where it should be midnight by the time we return. Just in time for opening presents.

Christmas Forecast
It was a beautiful day outside today here in Northwest Indiana. It reached up to 40 degrees. Lots of snow melted and it was really just a pleasant day to spend some time out-doors.
