Hawk and Stoney get into a donnybrook. Robin wins MOY. Kenny moves upstairs willingly to let Rick Hahn fix his mess. Sox are close enough for ONE BIG FINAL TRADE, which will actually work out. Bench clearing brawl with the Tigers in the first series of the year against them. Robert Fick comes out of the stands and levels Alexei...Dunn sits on Fick.

Why no talk of Johnny Dawkins? -
Pat Robertson on the Broncos "handling" of Tim Tebow: Very Christian of you...Douchebag.

@ChrisKuc RT @renhockey: nhlpa needs to approve change by nhl in Duncan Keith hearing. Nhl asked for face to face hearing instead of a phone hearing. Hmmm...wonder if the NHLPA will allow this 0-5 gm to 6+ gm change? My guess...he's out until the playoffs.

2 minutes of two goons rolling around on the ice doesn't keep hockey off people's radars. In fact, I bet if you took a poll asking why they don't watch hockey, it would come down to two things. One, what EvilJester said about it being hard to follow the puck/game and two, it's not an "American" sport. While fighting may be on that list...it would be near the bottom. JMHO.

Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

The issue with Greg Davis was, even in a spread, he would go conservative. And this was with VY and Colt as well. His play calling would turn John Shoop-esque at times. The Longhorn loyals didn't like that too much. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) With a good coach, you are a top 20 program. I don't disagree with that. However, new programs have emerged and stepped in as well. For example, the Uconn's of the world. Teams like Arizona as well (although we still have to see how they do without Lute and if they can continue there recent success). I totally agree, but Illinois has been good to great in every decade, no matter who the coach has been. UConn without Calhoun...who knows? Is Duke going to make it past Coach K? I wouldn't even mind bringing in an Ernie Kent...someone who is older and may retire sooner rather than later and have Howard as the coach-in-waiting. Honestly, at this point, I'd rather see a Tom Crean-like hire. Not a mid-major coach, but a coach from a major college that wants to be in the Big Ten. Not sure who that would be, though. I guess Anthony Grant would be closed to that scenario. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) First, when one says they "could care less" that means they do care. Also, it's hard to have an OBP near .400 with a batting average below .210. Thank you, though, for the post that yields nothing. Sorry...didn't have my AP Stylebook in front of my at the time. That's a lovely response, although, one that also yields nothing.

I could care less as long as his OBP is near .400.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) If he knew he had one and hid symptoms to keep playing he's a complete idiot. I really hope that isn't the case. I hate to tell you this...but sports is full of idiots.

Not good at all...but on a brighter note... The Hawks have beaten #1 in the East, #1 in the West, #2 in the Central and...well, Columbus. Let's keep it up, fellas.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Agreed, this is a sad situation. I know it's a message board and we're all supposed to be fire-breathing assholes, but I feel bad for Bruce and the end of the road here. Last night you were listening to a man defeated. He knew it was the end. It's hard to imagine what he's feeling, don't think any of us have been in such a situation. I'm not terribly upset with his comments. Did he throw guys under the bus? Sure. But for years he's been protecting dumb, lazy players, and he finally called a spade a spade. And it's not like it was crazy, he was just defeated and was honest. I mean what exactly did he say that was incorrect or so out of line? Leonard was a dog, he's got a terrible attitude, Paul plays like an idiot (that last play is not what was drawn up at all, Paul was selfish and just stupid), DJ failed to do anything on offense. So on and so on. It IS sad that Abrams is your leader. Now yes, he recruited those lazy, dumb, etc, players. So yes, it's the end of the road. Ultimately, it's on him. I'm sad to see him go. Not in the I want him to stay kind of way, just sad that it's coming to an end. Bruce is a good guy, he ran a clean program (nothing tells me otherwise), he works very hard and cares a lot about the team and the university. But yes, the success recently wasn't there, so this is what will happen. Doesn't mean it isn't a sad time, IMO. I don't see the point in firing him now just because of those comments. He's not the first coach to call out a player or a team, whether that coach was on the hot seat or not. Will it be awkward? Sure. But maybe it will get through to them, and even if nothing happens productive this year, those players can take some of that with their career moving forward. But I think he deserves to just coach through the BTT at the least, and then we can move forward. I also don't think it looks very good to the college basketball world to fire him right now. I mean yes he won't be here next year, however I don't see all the great things that can come from him not being here and having the rest of the staff coach the rest of the way. It's not a great situation, I know. MT also said he will wait until after the season, and I don't think an 8 minute press with a defeated man after 9 years will/should change that. I wishing nothing but the best for Bruce at the next program he takes over. He was around for some great years early, and just IMO, he coached that team up to get to where they needed to be. We don't need to argue about Self recruits for the rest of the thread. But generally he's respected as a good coach, however his lack of talent (or the wrong talent) brought in ultimately hurt him. I see what he means by coaching not to lose. Obviously he was feeling everything and nowhere to go with the team, trying to win now and that's it, not thinking long term. He takes the blame for it, and it's a shame that's how it played out with the last few teams. Color me sad today just with the overall situation. I hope both the team and him can move forward over the next few years and both have success. Well said. Bruce is a good guy but ended up being an excellent mid-major coach. I hope he has success at his next position moving forward. And I agree...firing someone in the middle of the season will not bring you the coach you desire. It makes the program look petty and foolish. I am excited to see where Mike Thomas might be headed with his next hire, though. If you use Tim Beckman as a template...younger, excitable, decent local recruiter. Discuss. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:11 PM) And that. Even if they're stomping on your ribcage. My older son literally jumps on me from the couch. Or it's a running jump on my back landing on his knees. It hurts, but it makes me laugh every time.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) 5k per household (Crap)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) My wife's work does that, she pays in each paycheck, and we get money back, so it is pre-tax, for $5k a year. But you cannot also get the child care credit in addition - it is one or the other. You DO get the CHILD CREDIT, as dependent, either way. Do you know if both parents can do the pre-tax $5k a year? Or is it $5k per household? That's an issue I wasn't sure of.

For anyone complaining...just repeat after me... 500 thousand 500 thousand 500 thousand The Sox have players making WAY more that haven't earned a penny of it. (OK, maybe a penny) This is a low risk, whatever reward you can get out of him move. It's not exciting...but it's not bad.

As long as the Bowman's are running player personnel, the 'hawks will never overspend for a goalie. They believe that a strong defense builds up a middling goaltender. And they are right. The year the 'hawks won the Cup they were among the league leaders in shots against. That hasn't been the case since. To be honest, Niemi's agent blew that deal. He ended up getting less. He could still be here, the 'hawks offered him a fair deal and it was rejected. Not much you can do about it. If the current defense can get their heads out of their asses, you'll see Crawford and Emery pick up their games. EDIT: The best thing about this slump...it's in the middle of Jan. and Feb and not in the middle of April and May.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) Is that daycare or a nanny? My wife has already said that when the baby is still in its first year, she'd much rather have a full-time nanny than to stick the kid in a day-care with multiple kids taking away attention. But that's 40+ hours * $8-10/hour = NO BUENO. But your wife is right...one on one time is great if you can find the right nanny. It is a financial hit, but our kids love the nanny and they have learned a lot. If you can't handle it financially, you can always try in-home day care. That's usually capped at 8 kids, but most places won't have 8. It's a little cheaper, but also well worth it.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) My parents-in-law bought the crib (thankfully). We registered for everything else for the shower. I was just in awe with the amount of stuff there is. I have four nieces and nephews, so I understood going in that babies have a lot of crap. But the amount of random stuff was a little mind blowing. Wait til you get to the Wall of Nipples...and I don't mean that in a "I'm just doing this to put myself through school"/make it rain kinda way. That was the most horrifying thing ever after our first was born. On a different note...why do they call it the Terrible Two's when they really aren't terrible until they are three?

Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon in Austin Texas. Not dirty, but there's absolutely no air circulation. So when you walk in to it, the smell of urine as old as the bar is the first and only thing you smell...for days.
