  1. According to the Trib...Dan Pasqua just put his house up for sale.
  2. If anyone wants to go bass fishing in Texas...I have a buddy who takes people out on Lake Fork outside of Dallas. He's also on the FLW tour and has been on Versus or one of those channels. Plus, he's a kick-ass euchre player. Ping for details.
  3. 'hawks sign Ryan Potulny to a two-way contract. 1 year, $500K.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) No, I don't, and I think they are using it as leverage to get some change accepted. Though I guess at an extreme, they legally could use some verbage in the CBA to retroactively void them. So it's a mess. Since the CBA isn't up, they are proposing to the NHLPA to have the cap hit for future contracts not count seasons that have the player ending up 40 or older. The hit would be the average of the years prior to that. They are also proposing that the cap hit on 5+ year contracts be the average of the 5 highest paid years. They'd "grandfather" the current contracts in. The above 2 stipulations seem pretty reasonable. Not to mention, if the NHL did retroactively void those contracts, they would screw the players because most of the teams are set under the cap at this point. That wouldn't sit well going into CBA negotiations. Players who did nothing but sign a contract....
  5. Choo would have a tough time playing for the Sox while in Korea.
  6. @Milkman...Soble was changed from something Eastern European. Perhaps Soblinski or Soblewski? Or something like that. @Jurny...No...I just really liked Cam, but my sister-in-law's last name is Cameron. So, at the last minute, we chose this one. Plus, we like names that are different, but not silly. And Kyyle...congrats!!! Hope to see your new ones at Comiskey soon! And Thanks everyone!
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) A couple of problems with this: It wouldn't be very smart to move a NFL franchise into established "Bears territory" I HIGHLY doubt that the McCaskeys would allow another team to move into their market Other than Chicago, I dont think there is a suburb in the area that could fund a new $500+ million dollar stadium Given the states HUGE financial issues, there is no way an second NFL team gets state funding to build a stadium With that being said, it wouldnt be a bad idea to keep an eye on teams like the Jaguars, Saints, and Chargers. But they are more lekely to go to places like LA, San Antonio, or San Jose (most likely the future home of the 49ers). San Antonio is not going to happen. Houston and Dallas won't allow it.

    Prairie Avenue??

Also, the United States Soccer Federation is located on Prairie Avenue. Strange...but true. pa-DOW!
  10. I admit it...I like the new Soldier Field. The half-bowl on the West Side is my least favorite part, but I can't imagine of another way to preserve the outside while redoing the site lines!
  11. Wasn't there a plan at one time to have a shared Bears/Sox stadium? I seem to recall something where the stadium acted like scissors. With the apex behind home plate, it would open for baseball and then close for football. It would've been near or on the current location of Soldier Field.
  12. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:50 AM) I really like Ozzie but I sincerely hope that when the offseason comes KW tells him to shut the f*** up and manage the players that he gives him. It's the GMs job to pick the players, is it not? No more of this Ozzie ball-aging veteran-man crush on Kotsay bulls***. Yeah...cuz we did so well with last year's KW team.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Ozzie doesn't know how to sit players like Kotsay and AJ, yet, remarkably...he knew how to show Dye and Thome the door. What's the main argument for not playing Castro, who obviously hits better against lefties? That AJ DESERVES a chance to play against his former team, and that you should never "bench" starters in key games? That AJ's motivation against the Twins will offset his year-long struggles with lefties? Same thing with Kotsay, how can you NOT PH Andruw Jones at that point in the game when there's the greatest chance to strike a huge, early blow against the Twins? Sure, Jones might also strike out, but the odds have to be exponentially higher of Jones hitting the ball hard and into play for at least a double than Kotsay driving the ball against a lefty. If Thome was here...do you think he would be our everyday DH? If so, do you think he would have the same type of season without the rest he's getting in Minny? I'd like to know your answer. I don't think he would have the same type of season. And I also think we all would be complaining again on how it takes 4 singles to score 1 run. But that's just me. Just saw this from Buster Olney:
  14. It isn't from a movie, it's from the Twilight Show series. I don't recall the name of the episode, but it was with Telly Savalas. The premise is that one of his daughter's dolls comes to life, but only talks to him. It says something like, "I'm going to kill you." He, of course, is freaking out. At the end, he realizes it's probably nothing, but then he trips over it and falls down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, just before he dies, he looks over and sees the doll. The doll opens her eyes and says, "I told you." Still freaks me out to this day. Just got chills thinking about it.
  15. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Yeah, apart from the fact that I have never heard any Midwesterner ever speak of "having" a catch. I always "played" catch. Didn't you? I really enjoy that movie, but that particular phrasing is so odd that it takes me outside the movie and detracts a bit from the power of the scene. I don't know what it is about baseball movies, but the ending of The Natural affects me the same way. I like that movie a lot, too, but watching the ending, I always end up thinking how different it is from the book, rather than just taking it in. True...but in the movie...Kevin Costner isn't originally from the Midwest, he was born and raised in NY and went to college at Berkeley. Annie was from Iowa and that's why they moved there.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) I agree with this. There are men out there in their 70s that live and die with every Sox pitch or with every interception that Cutler throws. It doesn't mean that they haven't matured or anything like that. Every person can decide how emotionally involved they want to be with a sports team, it has nothing to do with age/experience/maturity. Well...I like to look at the bigger picture. I like to look at the season. I would love to see the Sox win the WS again in my lifetime...in fact, many WS. I am too old to get too high or too low day-to-day. (and I'd like all to notice I use the word I...I could care less what you guys do day to day...if you want to scream at the top of your lungs depending on the game...go ahead, enjoy!)
  17. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) I think Favre is in the middle to be honest. He isn't near as bad as he was when he was with the Jets (or 05 GB) and he won't be near as good as he was with the Vikings last season. If he gives them even half of last year's numbers, I'm sure the Vikings will happily take that. I see a pattern though from Favre the last few years... 06- 56.0% Completion, 3,885 yards, 18-18 TD:INT 07- 66.5% Completion, 4,155 yards, 28-15 TD:INT 08- 65.7% Completion, 3,472 yards, 22-22 TD:INT 09- 68.4% Completion, 4,202 yards, 33-7 TD:INT 10- ??? He's had an average year followed by a good year the following season. So judging by that, I expect an average year for the 41 year old this comming season. Ahhhh...the Saberhagen Syndrome.
  18. I'm not content...but this is a marathon, not a sprint. I'm too old to live and die with each and every game of a 162 game season. I love watching this team, win or lose, although it's more fun when they win. My point is, why are we talking about blowing up a team and an organization when the 2010 White Sox are OVERACHIEVING! Of course, I want to see them win every year...but that doesn't happen to any team. Ever. I come into every season hoping that the Sox will win the World Series. And at the end of the season, there are always games that you can point to and say, "That was a big win/loss." But to praise and/or rip this team daily is just going to give you unneeded stress. It's a game. It's fun. It's icing on the cake of life. 2005 was a fantastic year. I'll never forget it. But so was '85, '91-'93, '96-'98 and '09-'10. But in the grand scheme...I'll take my wedding and birth of my two kids over any of those. I'm not Kenny Williams, Ozzie Guillen or any member of the White Sox organization...so I have nothing invested in this other than to enjoy the ride. So keep your insults about being a Cub fan.
  19. "Dad...wanna have a catch?" /thread
  20. Ummm...can't we just be happy that this White Sox team is this/close to even being in first? I mean, isn't this a team that most "pundits" and even a good chunk of this board thought would be behind the Twins, Tigers and yes, even the Indians. Some even saw the Royals as above the Sox this year. And now, because of a 25 out of 30 streak, this team made these series important. I know I wouldn't necessarily have thought that at the beginning of the year...and yet here we are. And once again, here we are arguing about what kind of fans Sox fans are. Can't we just enjoy the ride instead of analyzing every single bump or dip in the road? I mean, it's the middle of August and the Sox still have a chance to win the division...isn't that just a little exciting???
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Guillen - .246/.304/.362/.666 in his last 258 plate appearances Kotsay - .253/.327/.412/.738 in his last 245 plate appearances Ozzie or Jose?
  22. If the Rockies fall farther out (8 1/2 GB now), if he makes it through to us or through waivers, do you take a flyer on Todd Helton?
