  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) Probably not anymore. You know, I had to settle and take a big paycut thanks to Uncle Obama not taking care of my job. I'm one of those "underemployed" now. Don't start with that...at times, I was "underemployed" under Clinton, Bush and now Obama. Not partisan. Anyway, what is the NDoP all about? Is it praying for our country, as in God Bless America? If so, we have a day like that, it's called Memorial Day. If it's just a day of prayer, many religions have that already, for instance, the Sabbath on Friday for Jews or Sunday for Christians. Of course, you can go more...but there is a call for a certain day. I just don't see the need for this day, period...forget the Constitutional issues. Although, I do think it's cool that the US is set up for debates like this and the Constitution can be evolutionary.
  2. In the words of Danny Vermin: The Sox gave a "max" contract to a player once...once. No dice on Fielder.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) obama might be a facist, we have no way of knowing. Only strikeouts are fascist. /green
  4. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Probable cause is only necessary to satisfy the warrant requirement and to make an arrest. An officer can approach anyone and ask simple questions if they have "reasonable suspicion." From that point, the answers to those questions can result in a more invasive intrusion, but probable cause is not necessary until the handcuffs are applied. The problem here is that we don't know what articulable facts are acceptable to constitute reasonable suspicion in this case. No habla espan-lawyer.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Daley has overseen a Chicago government that is highly corrupt. But that said, I think people here are ignoring two huge things. 1. The city gov't in Chicago was just as corrupt, probably more so, before Daley. 2. Corrupt or not, Daley has been a highly effective mayor, and helped Chicago go through a 20 year renaissance as a city that few other US cities have ever seen. He's been very, very good for the city, overall. The city of Chicago has been corrupt...well...for a very long time. The last "non-corrupt" mayor was probably Bilandic and he barely made it out of his term. Byrne was trying...but didn't get anywhere...and then the fun began.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) AP I'm sorry...but that made me laugh. Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up.
  7. Call it National Day of Remembrance...oh wait, we have one of those. Really, if you are religious, you have a day of prayer. Sunday is one of them. Friday night to Saturday night Sabbath is another one. Just saying.
  8. Oooohhhh...I see. So because players aren't getting on base, we aren't scoring runs... And I thought it was because they can't hit with RISP...at least that's what I've seen.
  9. Jeez fellas...it's just a meaningless trophy. It is what it is...a way to rekindle the rivalry a bit. It's not stupid or boring or fantastic or anything. In the words of Terry Boers...it's just a thing.
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) From what I've read, he sufferred a very bad concussion. I haven't seen anything even hinting of a timetable for his return. Yeah I knew he had a bad concussion...pardon me, "Upper body injury"...I wasn't sure if anyone had heard if he was skating or he took that test that Marc Savard did. Forgot what it's called.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) Not to mention that all 8 series started out with the teams splitting the 1st two games. I had predicted in the NHL thread that there was no way the Sharks choke this time, but yet they are 30 seconds away from being down 3-0. They can obviously still win the series, but its gotta be getting to their heads now, especially after the own goal. Good to see the Hawks get back in the win column last night. Niemi had a great game, glad that horrible game 1 goal didn't get to his head. As long him and the D don't make any more big f***-ups, I don't see Nashville scoring enough to win the series. Here's what I like about Niemi...he seems aloof. Normally, in an athlete, you want someone who shows he cares all the time. Goalies are a little different. I want someone who cares, but doesn't let one goal get them down. If Niemi has a shut out...whatever. If Niemi loses...whatever. Fiery works for some goalies, like Belfour. But I like the fact that Niemi praises his defence when he wins and but doesn't carry it over when he loses. Not sure if he's a franchise goalie, but he's what we've got right now and I hope he can (with the help of the blueliners) carry this team. By the way, what's up with Kim Johnssen? Is he expected back anytime soon?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Let PK walk at the end of this season. He's a pretty average player now who's best days are well behind him. He's still underrated as a first basemen, though. Maybe not for range, but as a receiver from the rest of the infield.

    Sushi in Chicago

Shiroi Hana...best sushi in town. On Clark, just north of Belmont.
  14. Here's a question...why do people call it "pro-abortion?" It's pro-choice. Big difference. Many people are for a woman's right to choose, but wouldn't choose to do it themselves if put in that situation. That has always bothered me.
  15. It does stink. They have it in the Chicago Children's Museum. It's in the dinosaur exhibit. You dig through the stuff to find the dinosaur bones. Then again, it is inside, so the stench has nowhere to go.
  16. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) A grand slam, a double, and 6 RBIs is a decent game. Carlos wanted more, though. Maybe we should make him angry again tonight. CARLOS SMASH!!!!
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) And Colorado wins the 1st game on the road.. They remind me of the Hawks last year, though not as talented. Very young team, that doesn't know any better and can surprise people. I hope they can somehow beat SJ though, more than likely they will play us after re-seeding and we match up very well vs. them. Sharks.. ah if they lose this series, they will still have that choker label to their name. Still very early though as alot of the top teams lost their 1st game. (Pit, NJ, SJ and I'll even add Detroit in here, even though Phx has the 4th seed) Speaking of Phx, nice win for them as well. All the slobbering over the Phoenix fans last night on Versus made me absolutely sick. This is a team that hasn't turned a profit since they moved there from Winnipeg in '96. "Oh look, we're in the playoffs! Let's go to a game!" Makes me throw up in my mouth. I hope they get moved to Hamilton or back to Winnipeg or even Hartford. Get them out of the desert! That being said...fantastic win. They skated circles around Det. Don't know how long they will be able to keep that up, though.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Torre and LaRussa and Cox? Yeah...I would say those are the managers that would have arguments.
  19. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) I dont think I like soxtalk. When I really look inside my heart I find that I dont. Glad you finally found it!
  20. Ozzie talks. He talked as a player (although at the time, no one understood him)...and he talks as a manager. He's a good manager. We won't know how good until he is long gone from the game. Are there any great current managers? There are arguments for some, but none would be mentioned with the Connie Mack's or the Leo Durocher's of baseball. Seriously, managers are like Presidents...you never know how good they are until they've been gone for years.
  21. Can you write on it? Like e-notes? Or does it all have to be typed?
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) For every awesome and deserving teacher out there, there's 2 awful tenured teachers who aren't worth anything but still get paid. Guess how much the highest paid teacher in Illinois makes: http://www.championnews.net/salaries.php (bottom left, can't link you to the actual page unfortunately) Clearly this isn't representative of every teacher, but what teacher is worth that much money? Also, from personal experience, i'd agree that the public sector has gotten pretty close to the private sector in terms of pay. Coming out of law school, entry level government jobs paid a lot more than entry level private sector jobs. You take out the 5% of entry level attorneys that make bank out of school, the rest of us shlubs have hundreds of thousands of debt and jobs that don't really pay much more than having the 3-4 years of work experience out of college. This has been the way of District 219 since I was in High School. Back in the late 80's...whew, I'm old...our high school, Niles North, had the highest average teacher salary nearly every year. Followed closely by New Trier most years. At the time, we also had the longest average tenure and looking at the list, there are still a few teachers there from when I went there...so, they have 25+ years experience. Just wanted to add that tidbit...I think District 219 has been one of the higher paying districts historically. Also, I would imagine, with Niles West and Niles North combined, it's one of the bigger districts in the state, but I don't have hard evidence of that.

    Grillin'!

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Doesn't necessarily have to be a weber, but any charcoal grill is a must. Call me a purist, a nut, biased, or whatever you want. If you want to convenience of cooking on gas, cook in the damn house. The charcoal, learning the proper amount, how to place it/where to place it, waiting for it to get ready is all a part of the pure experience. And after you learn how much (and this takes time), you'll be able to cook on consistent heat just fine, don't let the gas heads fool you on this. Also, you can get charcoal that's ready in under 6 minutes if you are in a hurry.
  24. Let's go get Eric Chavez for 3B! Oops...wrong thread! Let's win one for the Dankser...Go Sox!
