It's an open market. If an owner is willing to pay...a player is willing to sign. The interesting thing that el brought up though, is the contrast. Of course, I personally wouldn't give money back, but I also wouldn't necessarily DEMAND my contract torn up and re-written with a higher salary either. That's the issue. Owners do it, though. So, the question is, if players and their agents can demand or even just ask to rip up a current contract, why CAN'T an owner do the same? Players should expect it, shouldn't they? (DISCLAIMER: This will never happen, but I totally understand the argument made by el)

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) It's f***ing awful. My wife went in a few months back to get this thing on her fingernail checked. The doctor spent approximately 5 minutes with her (after she waited 40 minutes past her scheduled appt) and said "oh i think it's X, do A, B, and C." My wife had the audacity to ask what X was and the doctor told her to google it and then left the room. Luckily my wife works at the hospital in philanthropy and knows the board members and president and other higherups and was able to make a very high level complaint. Hopefully that doctor got canned. Oh, and she was charged like 180 for the visit, 40 dollar copay. For 5 minutes. On the flipside, a high school friend of mine is a GP and tells me stories of overweight patients complaining about being diabetic and the symptoms that come along with that, only to say they had McDonalds for lunch and a vat of ice cream for dinner. Or Google their own symptoms and proceed to tell her what their diagnosis should be, sometimes demanding drugs that aren't needed. Sooo, it does go both ways. I can't even imagine what it's like being a doctor in this age of the intertubes. Still, 5 minutes is a heinous crime and I hope that doc was shown the door back to the University of the I-have-to-be-a-doctor-or-my-parents-will-disown-me-so-I'll-go-to-a-s***ty-school-in-the Caribbean.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) I have seen lots of instances where a player - in any sport mind you but let's talk baseball - wants to tear up a contract and ask for more money after they have a good season, but don't like their "low" salary. How many have offered to tear up a contract when they are making a ton of money, but don't produce, and then offer to give money back? I don't want to attack anyone here but we always hear of the $12 plus million dollars being earned by Rios and Dunn and how ashamed they are they aren't producing, but they still get paid the money owing on that contract. Maybe team ownership should sue for breach of contract when a player doesn't perform? Get some of that money back. I think it's an interesting approach and obviously would have to have some language written into a contract, but this has been a gargantuan waste of financial resources with the Sox paying non perormance and a high rate. Other teams have experienced this too we all know. Again I am not singling anyone out for criticism I just think it would be good business sense. The team pays for production period not sucking. I think the MLBPA would have something to say about that. Not saying you are wrong, though.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) No on Born. No on Quentin being here past Sunday. His value will never be higher than it is right now, imo. As has been said before...it takes two to tango. Can't sell if the price isn't right. And the Sox don't NEED to trade him. If they get an overwhelming deal, sure. But otherwise...sit tight and catch the Tiggers.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) I like Brown, but Quentin is the kind of player you build around not trade off. He's had his injury issues but he's playing a pretty solid RF and is a yearly 30 HR/ 100 RBI threat. Brown has a long way to go show half of what Q has shown. They say he's maturing and not so hard on himself anymore. The guy was going to be league MVP if he doesn't hurt himself two yeasr ago. If De Aza shows anything, you have a young OF of him, Q, and Viciedo for years to come. I wouldn't be mad if they traded and recived Brown but I'd rather keep Quentin. ^^^ That.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Just opened up ESPN gamecast, and saw the score. 14-0? Seriously? Its football weather, I guess we need a football score. f***ing awesome. That new MLB gameday sure does look cool... too bad it doesn't actually work. Tried it on Chrome and IE, and nothing updates correctly or in a timely way. ESPN is fine. Works just fine in Safari

I watched one of the most heavy-handed documentaries in a long time. It's called GasLand and while it's an interesting and informative movie and topic...I don't care about how the filmmaker breaks down because some stream reminds him of home. It's about natural gas drilling and how it's affecting the environment and people around the drill sites. Also, how it's poorly regulated, if at all. But MAN...gimme the facts, not your personal opinion. I wanted to shoot Josh Fox, just to put him out of his misery.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) Yes Yes we all know the sox are "All In" for 2011 and are going to have the teams highest payroll in history at $125M+. I think "All In" was perpetrated by the amount of money committed to 2011 before the offseason, and I believe the same is true for 2012. The team had something like $75M committed, mainly in pitching, before the 2011 offseason. Add arbitration eligible Danks, CQ, and Pena and it was something like $88M committed before addressing holes at 1B, C, RP, DH. So we all know the sox decided to go for it and add to that payroll figure for 2011. Question is, is 2011 linked to 2012 in the amount of money committed prior to that year. Most of the "All In" campaign resulted in players getting multiyear deals so there is a heavy load already on the books for 2012. My calculations show $93.5M already committed for 2012, thats without arbitration eligible Danks, CQ, Pena, and with holes in the pitching staff with Buehrle, Jackson, Thornton hitting free agency. So with that much $$ committed to a core group of players, again needing to pick up/resign a few players, and another relatively stagnant look to our division rivals, are the sox already "All In" for 2012 too?? Furthermore, do we have to be successful, team and attendance wise in 2011 to be "All In" again (payroll) in 2012, or are we all in by default with all that money on the books and the division looking weak. Yes.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Sustainability is certainly a question with Nebraska. This time a year ago they were just cracking the rankings I believe. Martinez had 5 passes in the first half. That's insane. You complain about Michigan being one-dimensional, but that is video game s***. I'm not sure they can pull that off against tough teams. Hard not to be impressed though. I thought K State being at home would make it competitive. And kev, ND is better than 2-3, but they deserve the record whether or not it lines up with their quality. I still think they're a 7-5 type team. Kelly is a great hire if the fan base can wait for him to develop the team. With the move to the Big Ten...I think sustainability is no-longer going to be a question. It opens up new recruiting locales and I think, even though they'll be new to the Big Ten, they will play heavily on the traditions of it, as well as NU's own traditions. They may lose a bit of a foothold in Texas, but I'm not sure how much talent they get from there anyway. -
Methinks it's going to be a rough start (by current Stanley Cup champion standards) for the 'hawks. Turco is going to have to get used to a new group of d-men. Add to that, the core of d-men is missing a big piece right now in Campbell. And there are a couple of lines that have to get used to playing with each other, but by mid-November, beginning of December, I think this team will start clicking.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 03:49 AM) If illegal stuff is happeing, than it should get caught. Just because other schools do it doesn't mean it is ok for your school to have done it. And while the commit is probably a bit 2-faced it still wouldn't have ever been an issue had the program not been doing stuff wrong in the first place. The problem is...it's so rampant that the NCAA can't keep up with it. Someone really needs to investigate the investigators...or a third party that CAN handle it, should handle it.
