  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) What it feels like to win a second World Series title? Winner. /thread
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) No he will go through the NL first then the AL....Worst to first in each Yeah, I knew the worst to first. Wasn't sure about the leagues. Thanks.
  3. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) So if Wags just went on waivers there is no way he makes it out of the NL I know we've talked about this before, but I thought the waiver process went to the opposite league first...no?
  4. And...um...doesn't he have a crappy record in domes, especially the Rollerdome?
  5. With every passing moment, Favre is destroying his legacy in the National Football League.
  6. If he wants to continue his career, he better be Big Game Freddy. This may be his last chance.
  7. If he dresses like Santa, does he get booed twice as hard?

  9. WTF is going on...? Doesn't it seem there is an overwhelming amount of people dying this year? I mean, more famous people dying than usual. Of course, Les Paul was 94, but skateboarder Andy Kessler also died today of an allergic reaction to a wasp bite. I mean...COME ON ALREADY!!!
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) Does this guy dent the 40-man roster? Only from the outside.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Indiana: Basketball players Idaho: Taters Missouri: The Cardinals are 3 games up on the Cubs Michigan: the Chevy Volt Kansas: the song "Dust in the wind" California: keeps the rest of your taxes low Alabama: the Birmingham Barons Iowa: Corn West Virginia: only place in the country mining companies are allowed to totally destroy. Utah: 6 national parks. New Mexico: who else is going to build your A-bombs? Montana: Glacier and the Beartooths. Seriously, drive through them. Mississippi: storage compartment for unused letter "S"'s. Arkansas: Frankly, I got nothing. Don't they have some hot springs? What? Need something? I would vote for the panhandle of Florida. In fact, screw 'em, let's dump it. Can someone inform FlaSoxx before we do, tho... ...on second thought.....
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) My top 10, excluding extensions: 1. Jermaine Dye for 2 years, 10.15 million 2. Loaiza dealt for Jose Contreras 3. Loaiza on a minor league contract 4. Acquiring Bobby Jenks off waivers 5. Signing AJP to a 3 year deal 6. Gracia for Floyd 7. BMac for Danks 8. Olivo, Morse, Reed for Ben Davis and Freddy Garcia 9. Aaron Rowand and company for Jim Thome 10. The drafting and handling of one Gordon Beckham. Should be making it's way to number 1 soon enough. Other favorites include Pods both times around, Borchard for Thorton, Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe, and getting Jurassic the 2nd time around (sure he was a terrible three hitter, but he was our terrible 3 hitter for a time on a World Championship team). His worst: 1. Kip Wells, Sean Lowe, and Josh Fogg for Todd Ritchie 2. Ryan Sweeney, Gio Gonzalez and Fautino de los Santos for Nick Swisher Off the top of my head, these would be the only two you could classify as very bad. Jermaine signing is my favorite. Geoff Blum for Ryan Meaux is second. Royce Ring, Andrew Salvo and Edwin Almonte for Robbie Alomar and cash is third. And I don't think you can call the Swisher trade as bad just yet. Not until Sweeney, Gonzalez or de los Santos do something worthy.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) around 02-03 I felt that he took over a team with an all star offense and the best farm system in baseball and had depleted the farm and got nothing in return to put them over the hump. Now I just find his vision to be fantastic. He seems to be working at a level that no one else is. (that doesn't mean above everyone else, rather he isn't working on who's available, he's working on who he needs). This. And he isn't looking at the big name all the time. If he gets burned, he seems to find a better alternative (see: Hunter, Torii). I think his three year whiteboard is genius.
  14. I would much rather have a GM who at least tries to make the team better, all the while, keeping payroll manageable. He's not burdened by any bad contracts. He's not stuck with any players and he doesn't sit on his hands. He's willing to shift gears mid-season. He will mix it up with a player he thinks has stepped out of line. Of course, Kenny has faults, but this is a great organization, and they are all on the same page. That's what keeps them in the hunt year after year. It will be a sad day when Kenny leaves. A sad, sad day indeed.
  15. Alexei just needs to stop lolligagging and he'll be a plus defender. If he would just play as hard as David Eckstein, he would be one of the top 5 SS in the league with his arm and speed.
  16. QUOTE (bulokis @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) It's like the bears' quarterback situation before Cutler-great job Angelo. Amazing job by KW. He is less expensive AND YOUNGER than Torii Hunter who we tried to get before. I dont care about the money we have invested in Peavy and Rios. I give props to Reinsdorf for giving his ok to these contracts. These moves will make keep us competetive in the next 3-4 years. Edited for your pleasure.
  17. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) No they didn't profit financially. Lower rates, points shaved off their mortgages......nothing financial in those two things...GMAFB...You have to have ethics to violate ethics... Hopefully Dodd will have plenty of time to take care of his prostate after the next election. His dad was crooked and so is he. What Dems and GOP fail to realize is that THEY ARE ALL CROOKED! Whether it be through power, money, sex...each and every one of them are crooked. Even the so-called "good" ones.
  18. WTF?!?! I was here earlier and saw the Sox had put a waiver claim on Rios and though...ah well, this happens all the time. I thought either the B-Jays were gonna pull him back or they were going to make a silly trade for him. Now, I look at his contract and think, that's really not too bad, and he's young enough that someone will take him if he isn't working out for the Sox. AND we gave up...NOTHING for him. This could turn out to be one of the biggest "trades" ever! Like Bagwell for Anderson. Wow. Kenny does it again.
  19. Go get yerself another perfect game, Burls. Should be interesting to see what's left of the Indians tonight. I'll be there as well!
  20. No More Candles Planes, Trains and Hearses Ferris Bueller's Day Off'd Too soon?
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) You realize it was NORRIS Hopper, not DENNIS Hopper, right? Pop quiz, hot shot...
  22. He was 59. RIP
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) I think the problem is that Jake Peavy is not Todd Ritchie. Where as Wells/Fogg/Lowe are comparable to the package that was given up for Peavy. So if back then the Sox had traded those 3 players for a former Cy Young winner, I doubt you see anyone complaining. The problem was that some people didnt like Ritchie from the start (turns out they were right). And the Buehrle/Garland/Wright/Glover rotation that Todd Ritchie was inserted into isn't QUITE at the same level as Buehrle/Danks/Floyd. Wells/Fogg/Lowe are comparable to the package offered...but like Soxbadger said...Peavy is just a BIT better (/green) than Todd Ritchie.
