  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) We're a .500 team at the end of July. We have no chance at winning the Word Series which should be our goal. Build for next year. The 2006 83-79 St. Louis Cardinals say hi.
  2. Has anyone done any research on this tidbit: Pretty interesting to win two nat'l championships in two high-profile sports like that.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) It is a crapshoot...but the prevailing theory seems to be that dominant pitching beats dominant hitting, and that is the best way to succeed in such a crapshoot. ^^^^^^^ The 2005 White Sox say hi!
  4. Maybe the buildings have a leaky roof? Or the water heater just went out. I mean, if you rent, the landlord takes care of all that. Suuure, you don't have any equity, but, c'mon, the State of Arizona isn't looking to settle down right now and probably bit off a little more than it could chew, anyway. In fact, I bet Arizona was pre-approved for AT LEAST $2 billion, but as we know, what you are pre-approved for and what you can actually afford are two separate things. /green
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Though I'm not a parent, I doubt I'd want my 13 year old riding his/her bike in the streets these days...people are idiots, they don't pay attention to the road (they're busy texting), and just...hell no to that. I am a parent and I, along with my 14 month old son, have almost been knocked over on at least 3 occasions by adults/kids riding on the sidewalk. There is one caveat...REALLY busy streets. Then, I can see upping my limit to 14 year olds.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) This was a dumb rumor it appears. Why would anybody want Bradley? He's another Jose Guillen. At least Maggs doesn't cause problems. Austria says hi.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) No, instead of Crown Royal, he gets a 2 liter Royal Crown. Well played, sir...well played!
  8. Dick...there's a stat in the Trib, which was posted earlier about Kotsay being the second best pinch hitter (active based on 50 PAs) right now. That has been a HUGE problem for the Sox this year. And Kotsay's defense at 1B is pretty good. Wise isn't good, but he tries. Fields isn't good and either isn't listening or isn't capable. Either way, as much as I like him...it's time for a change of scenery. Anderson had his chances, didn't listen to his coaches, partied a bit too much and over-all didn't back up his own crowing and therefore, I'd much rather have myself a Mark Kotsay and cash than a Michael Dubee and...well, Michael Dubee.
  9. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) They said its being talked about on am 1000. Pie would at least be an upgrade over dewayne piece of s*** wise. If by upgrade, you mean younger, then yes.
  10. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Uh-oh. That'd lower him to .400. And in the early going it's Movies and Meat....neck and neck. That's what she said.
  11. Anyone over the age of 12 riding their bicycle on the sidewalk should get an instant stick to the spokes.
  12. And somewhere up in Canada...JP Riccardi is fashioning a Mark Shapiro voodoo doll...
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Then that shows why we are a .500 team at best. Our baseball team had BA and Fields penciled in as starters and you think they were were basically nothing. Those are 2 positions on a team filled with trash. As far as Kenny. That's his job to evaluate players. GMs always need a crystal ball so to speak. He should have moved Josh in the offseason and signed Crede to a Twins' like deal. Or given it to Beckham to begin with. The few weeks in the minors probably didn't matter much to Gordon to start the year. His ability was probably there to begin with unless you guys think that month or so in the minors helped him a lot. And you said: But Crede was no sure thing and KW thought Fields was a potential all star so he wasn't going anywhere unless they got Cabrera or someone like that. If KW thought fields was potential all star, some other GM might have bit in the winter when teams are more apt to deal to make some changes. Greg...think of it this way...baseball is a below average game. Your best hitters only get hits less than 3 1/2 times per 10 at-bats. So, a GM, with FIFTY draft picks every year isn't going to hit on all of them considering some get hurt, some peak early, some might peak late, some can't get over the hump, some won't make adjustments, some get blinded by money, some get blocked by players, some can't/won't learn another pitch, some get a taste of the Show and can't perform, and so on. My point is: all GMs, including the "good" ones fail at talent evaluation from time to time. GMs are like cornerbacks...you might get burned, but you have to move on and I think Kenny has learned that lesson over the years and has become one of the top ten GMs in this league.
  14. From the trib (and the reason that the Sox probably got Kotsay):
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Well, while I agree that tax cuts at this point in time were a mistake, I have to disagree with your idea of where tax cuts go. Most Americans, unfortunately, don't really save or invest much money. More money on the paycheck will likely be spent, somewhere. Your argument really only applies to the Top 5% of earners, more or less. Normally, you are right, but in this economy, most of the people I've talked to about this (middle-class) are saving/investing. In the past, people have said, "I'm going to go buy X widget." But I think things are different this time. Then again, that's a very small sample size. Just a gut feeling.
  16. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:35 AM) I don't have an issue with the signing of Hossa. Even with the injury and the possibility of him missing some time, he will be an effective addition. The 12-year contract is a bit confusing as I wonder if he'll even play that long. However, he's a big time player and will make an impact. I'm a die hard Penguins fan, and I loved having Hossa two years ago. I didn't like his decision to sign with Detroit, but I still respected the guy and his ability. Being a fan of the Hawks, also, I'm excited to see him sign. He does improve the Hawks' chances at raising the Cup. The last few years of the contract are an afterthought. They could jettison him and he wouldn't count much towards the books. I think under $1M. In other words, I don't think he's going to play all 12 years.
  17. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Apples to oranges, Bartman ( if you want to make an excuse for a Cub team that choked ) killed a team's chance of possibly going to the WS. This guy would've killed one player's shot a at a perfect game. Not nearly the same thing. However, just for fun, let's say the guy had reached way over and made the catch. What would you be thinking right now? Sox win!
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) To be quite honest with you, we have not been linked to hardly anything by the national media thus far this deadline. We have gotten a little play from Rosenthal, and a few sparse updates from the Chicago media, but usually the White Sox get linked to nearly every major deal in the works. That has not happened this year. Perhaps Kenny has learned who was leaking things before... Or, he made his plays (Peavy, then Halladay) they weren't accepted...so now, he's done with high profile trades. I would bet he makes a Geoff Blum/Tony Pena-type trade tho before the deadline.
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) Would you murder somebody? We aren't talking about a Klondike bar...geez.
  20. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) I wouldn't have put any tax cuts in the stimulus. Tax cuts don't stimulate quickly enough. I think the most innovative thing in the stimulus package was the additional $25 a week in UI benefits, the 65% COBRA subsidy and the additional food stamps distribution in the bill. Why? Because the extra UI benefits and food stamps gets spent almost 100% of the time. Bingo...tax cuts get put directly in the pocket for a rainy day, mostly. That's not stimulus, that's piece of mind (a very small piece at that).
  21. 10 drinks = "That is the best/first time I have seen in my 50 years in baseball!"
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Depends on how you view history. Are we talking 100 years, 1,000 years, 100,000 years or 100,000,000 years. Most ape and chimpanzee diets are comprised of fruits and vegetables. You generally dont see silver back gorillas hunting down gazelles. Carl Everett doesn't eat meat more than 5000 years old because it doesn't exist.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) I can see him from my window.
  24. I've seen a million faces...and I've rocked 'em all. -Bon Jovi Oops...wrong thread. Ok. Here's the situation. My parents went away on a week's vacation And, they left the keys to the brand new Porsche Do they mind? Mmm, well, of course not! I'll just take it for a little spin, and maybe show it off to a couple of friends I'll just cruise it 'round the neighborhood Well, maybe I shouldn't. Yeah! Of course I should! Pay attention, here's the thick of the plot I pulled up to the corner at the end of my block And that's when I saw this beautiful girly-girl walkin' I picked up my car phone to perpatrate like I was talkin' You shoulda seen this girls bodily demensions I honked my horn, just to get her attention She said, "Was that for me?" I said, "Yeah." She said, "Why?" I said, "Come on and take a ride with a hell of a guy." She said, "How do I know you're not sick. You could be some deranged lunatic." I said, "Come on, toots. My name is the Prince. Besides, would a lunatic have a Porsche like this?" She agreed, and we were on our way She was lookin' very good, so I was I, I must say, WORD! We hit McDonalds, pulled up to the driveway We ordered two Big Macs, and two large fries and Cokes She kicked her shoes off onto the floor She said, "Drive fast, speed turns me on." She put her hand on my knee, I put my foot on the gas We almost got whiplash, we took off so fast The sun roof was open, the music was high And this girl's hand was thouroughly moving up my thigh She had opened up three buttons on her shirt so far I guess that's why I didn't notice that police car We're doin' ninety in my mom's new Porsche And to make this long story short, short When the cop pulled me over, I was scared as hell I said, "I don't have a license, but I drive very well, officer!" I almost had a heart-attack that day Come to find out the girl was a 12 year old runaway! I was arrested, the car was impounded There was no way for me to avoid being grounded My parents had to come off from vacation and get me I'd rather be in jail, than to have my father hit me My parents walked in and I got my grip I said, "Uh...mom, dad...How was your trip?!" They didn't speak, I said, "I wanna play my case." But my father just shoved me in the car by my face That was a hard ride home, I don't know how I survived it They took turns..one would beat me while the other was drivin'! I can't believe it! I just made a mistake Well, parents are the same, no matter time nor place So tell you other kids all across the land Take it from me, parents just don't understand
