I don't hate Jackie Bradley Jr. he's still elite defensively (tied Robert for highest OOA among outfielders last season) and could fit as the strong side of a platoon with Engel. The problem is someone might pay him based on his 2020 offense which was a clear outlier. If the price was right he'd be a nice fit as a defense first approach to the position.

It'll have no impact on his service time, he'll only accrue like 9 days of service, considering he's still going to be a starter long term the Sox will hold him down plenty to get the extra year of control, all it will require is a few weeks. The only thing it does is force them to start using his options next year so he'll run out sooner than if they hadn't called him up this year.

It really is a September call up sort of move since we're in solid control of the central, can't hurt to get him big league innings in a pennant race.

I'm 100% in favor of this move though if they were willing to call him up I wish they could have done it earlier in the month, give him a long look prior to the playoffs, he's exactly the type of reliever that could dominate a playoff series.
