According to De Luca the Cubs are not willing to include Samardzija in a deal for Peavy. He names Marshall, Hart and Fontenot as the possible garbage heading to San Diego.

Renteria's a free agent and if he's smart he'll go back to the NL.

Carl Crawford has a $10M team option for 2010 that will most definitely be picked up by whatever club owns his rights at the end of the '09 season. And as Dotel, Thome and Contreras come off the books Danks, Floyd and Quentin enter their first year of arbitration and the second for Jenks, his second.

The Rangers picked up their $6.2M team option on Hank Blalock today.

Bobby's going to make around $3.5M in 2009, maybe double that in 2010 and 8 figures in 2011 as a 30 year old. This is assuming of course that he stays healthy and productive. The "young and cheap" argument can only work for so long. This is about trading a guy a year too early rather than a year too late, if Bobby suffers a serious injury or falls flat on his face some time in the next 2 years his trade value will plummet to zero but he'll still cost a pretty penny to retain in arbitration.

There's still a belief that Penny might need shoulder surgery in the offseason, that's why the Dodgers declined his option not because he forgot how to pitch.
