Anyone got a hunch when Pauly is gonna start hitting again? Typically May is his slump month so the question is, can it get worse before it gets better? I'm actually benching him tonight - first time I've done that all season, but man he's killing my average and not even doing much good when he does hit. Oh btw, kick some Royal behind tonight Sox! -
No offers. I dunno if that means my roster sucks or everyone has who they want and/or are unwilling to give up players. Oh wait I do remember getting one offer - Rivera for Oswalt

best pickups , biggest cuts?

I was in dire need of closers so I was able to nab both Batista and Lyon and that sure paid off. I also nabbed Alfonso, Floyd, and Chacin. -

Congrats Jon, we all knew you had it in you!

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I was looking on Monster.. Where does one apply to be a baseball expert? Cause to me its a huge guessing game, but just make sure you mention the Cubs, Yankees or Red SOx and your godlike. All it takes is a journalism degree and a passion for jumping the fence at a moments notice. Long gone are the days of unbiased journalism. Today's "journalist" is nothing if he doesn't express an opinion, and that opinion typically is of popular opinion. -

MSN.com also has the Sox ranked #1 but the dolt says they won't win the Central. Doesn't bother me in the least, I don't need justification by so-called "sports experts" to enjoy my team's early success and hopes that it'll continue throughout the season. -
I think you're lucky that he's offering you Drew and Figgins for Beltre and Hernandez, aside from the fact that you'd be giving up an SP. Beltre may break out of the slump he's in, but I think he just did the usual contract-year thing last year and will revert to his usual form. So Drew for Beltre straight up is even IMO. So that leaves Figgins for Hernandez. Fig will give you steals and solid numbers while Hernandez seems to mix bad starts in with good ones. Actually, your roto could do you OK for a while, but I'd always keep my ear to the ground for another. If Wood can come back and be productive soon you'd be all set with SPs.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) my pitchers are moyer odalis perez freddy garcia cliff lee russ ortiz kerry wood and my four closers: looper graves lyon julio (takes my era down and whip) wondering if i could squeeze out one of his pitchers though? Good rotation - Moyer, Perez, Garcia, Lee, Ortiz. Wood is probably giving you migraines though. I'd look into finding a FA SP or two to flush out your roto. Also looks like you could use another closer and a setup guy. Looper is gonna drive you batty if he hasn't so far and who knows how long Lyon will be a stud (I've got him too so I'm hoping all season ) What I would do is pull the trigger on the trade then SCOUR your FA list and pick up at least one more SP if nothing else. Heck, you might wanna try getting Urbina or trading for him if someone's got him. With the state of closers today he could become veeeery valuable quickly!

Allow me to break down each player individually: JD Drew: Solid hitter who is finally heating up (while his team is going south). The big difference you have to remember between his previous years' numbers and this year is that he's now a Dodger so he may not even match his power numbers of previous years. Still, he can drive in runs and steal bases for you, as well as give you a solid BA. Rakings 117/253 Chone Figgins: Having a very nice year with a solid BA, runs scored, and steals. with him you get a bonus of 4 positions (plus INF and UTIL) to play him at. Very versatile and will not be a liability. Rankings: 72/64 Adrian Beltre: Having a decidedly off-year so far (or, regular year if you take away his contract-year numbers from last season). Nothing special here - low Avg, low walks, decent runs and RBIs, no steals yet, and his OPS, for a slugger, is downright atrocious. Rankings: 15/243 Livan Hernandez: In 5 starts has had 2 poor outings mixed in with 3 quality starts (2 of which he won). More hits than IP and almost as many walks as Ks which translates into a high WHIP, and a high ERA. Rankings: 142/132 Based on that analysis alone I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat. The only thing to consider is, do you have another SP to take Hernandez's place in your lineup? Good, consistent SPs are hard to come by.

My closer situation turned out very lucky. I drafted Kolb, Julio, and Urbina. Unfortunately Julio and Urbina didn't wind up as the closers on their respective teams, so I solicited trade offers for at least 1 closer and got no bites. Keeping my ear to the ground I managed to pick up both Brandon Lyon (ARI) and Miguel Batista (TOR) and dumped Julio and Urbina. Lyon has kept me alive in the saves department, and Kolb has been contributing until this week (I sure hope he straights his s*** out!). Batista has had sporadic opportunities but has garnered me 2 saves this week (including today) so that's good. I'm just praying Lyon can keep it up and Kolb gets his act together or I will be screwed. Julio is still out on the market so if Ryan does fall apart I might get lucky and be able to reacquire him if necessary.

This season is really something special and I surely am loving every minute of it. I'm just depressed a little in the fact that I can't see my team play every day. I may actually spend the buck-and-a-half to pick up MLB Extra Innings, this team so far has shown that they're worth paying for.

I tell ya, it sucks living in NY and not getting the games on WG-Cubbie-N like I used to. I have to follow the games on Yahoo! so I don't get to "see" the cool action, only the results. I also have Marte as one of my setup men on my fantasy roster and I was finally pleased that Guillen decided to use him twice in pressure situations this past week. I don't know what he did, all I know is he pitched two fairly solid, scoreless innings. Even though he walked a batter and gave up two hits, he came through in the clutch. I have the utmost respect for his abilities, especially considering how under-used he's been this year. 'Grats Damaso! Go Sox!

It's nice to finally see the Sox start a season strong and win games in different ways - with power, with speed, manufacturing runs, using strong pitching, and/or a combination of all of that. It seems pretty clear (11 games into the season that is) that the Sox and Twins have established themselves as early contenders in the AL. Add to that the Sox don't seem intimidated by the Twins like they were in years past, and it could be a very nice season. Instead of playing catch-up after the All-Star game, the Sox could be the team that others are targetting to pass. Congrats Buehrle, congrats Kong, and go White Sox! Close the deal tomorrow Freddie!

Speed kills. 'Nuff said. -
Guess which team has the best record in the AL? (Disclaimer: I know there have only been 4/5 games played, but it's still nice to say that!)

Guys I'm at a new job that I just started this week in a new city. I'm in the process of relocating, so my internet access is limited to here at work. I "watched" the last two innings of this game on Yahoo FBB and I LOVE how this team never quit! Go Paulie! Go Jermaine! Go Aaron, AJ, Willie, and Juan! Way to stage a great comeback! This is nothing but a confidence builder for the team, and I am psyched! Go Sox!

Sorry to bug you with this, but I offered up a trade to you last week and it hasn't been accepted or refused. Can you please take a look at it and let me know? If you have a counteroffer that you like better, I'm all ears. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much for that link to the Comcast video. Living in New York I can't see great stuff like this. God I love this guy, and KW has real charisma. I hope the chemistry I see from that short video translates to the diamond, because if these guys can stick together like this in spring training, they'll be a unified monster come Opening Day! And Mike Imrem is my new hero. What a great article!

Looking for some fantasy baseball advice
BuehrleTheAce replied to Steaming Willy Harris's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
My opinion is either Kong or Harden. You have good pitching locked up with Johnson and good O locked up in Guerrero and Rolen. So I guess it depends on whether you want to add more O or more pitching. Probably keep pitching to balance that O out. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) Would anyone know how long a live draft on Yahoo fantasy baseball takes on average? We have a 10 team league, and about 3 of us showed up (possibly 4) for the draft. It took about an hour and a half. The number of players per team (starters and bench) = the number of rounds in the draft. 1 minute, 30 seconds per pick max (90 seconds). My league is 10 teams. If each of us took the max amount of time to pick, that would be 39 minutes per person, or 390 minutes total (6.5 hours). We had 3 or 4 people show up for the league, so many of our picks were in seconds. I think the autopicker waited 40 or 45 seconds before making its pick for those of in my league that didn't show up. So basically, it is very unrealistic for a draft to last 6.5 hours, or really anything longer than 4. One draft I had took 3 hours, but that was an anomaly. So to make a long-winded post just a tad longer, figure 1.5 - 2 hours for a regular live draft.
