QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Which is it, Irish: Sox bad because they "lift and pull" and summer turns into "softball" because of Walker or Sox bad because they bring in someone who stresses fundamentals? I have been consistent on my thoughts on this. Having an entire lineup of lift and pull guys is not a good way. Having an overweight SS who thinks he can mash every pitch over the fence, while hitting below 240 with a sub 300 OBP is not good. It makes the team easy to plan again, and easy to pitch to. You go low and away and it keeps the team off balance. You need a mixture of hitting types. The middle of your order is your pull power guys. But its how you surround them that makes the difference. Let me type this so its clear. The idea that a guy can run the 40 like he is a track star does not make him a leadoff guy. Speed does not equal leadoff. You do not require Pods/Pierre/Bantamweight guy to make an offense work. I would like to see us sign Fukudome. He is something we dont have. A line drive doubles hitter who has a high OBP. That makes the offense diverse. You can put him and OC up top and it changes the dynamic of your top of the order. For years we have had Pods who doesnt get on base all that well, and you have Gooch who struck out too much for a number 2 hitter. OC doesnt strike out. Great bat control. Good speed. Fukudome has a high OBP and hits line drives. Now I am sure that Owens is fast. I am sure that if this were a race he would win. But this is not a track meet. Its baseball. Ozzie however is in love with random bantam weight guy who can run. A mixture of offense helps setup the offense.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Taco John's > you I am in East Tennessee this weekend for work, and had Taco Johns for the first time on Friday night. They dont have the variety that Taco Bell has but my god their Soft Chicken Tacos are f***ing awesome. In fact, later tonight. I am going to get 5 more. I picked up some Corona later, and I can drink the boredom away. I wish we had these in Chicago. I just looked it up, nearest one is Bourbonis or Rockford. God damn it. No Sonic, No Chick-a-fila, and now no Taco Johns. Cant we import this already.

How many moves wil KW make at Winter Meetings?

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) Amazes me that we will trade our top talent and not try and resign them. But, we will consider paying top dollar for a FA or someone elses player who is eligible after the end of '08. We have a good team and only need to add one of two pieces, but don't seem to appfreciate out home grown talent. We are doing exactly the oppositge of what the Twins have done and been successful Well we are not a player or 2 away from anything. There are a few more holes on this team. And for your boy Crede, his agent is Boras. And Boras already rejected overtures for a contract extension. He wants to go to FA. -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) As sad is this may seem, a Nady/Owens platoon would be the best LF production we've seen since 2004. If you grab Fukodome or Jones for CF, you're looking at a lineup that would be very tough throughout, no easy outs (unless Richar completely flops). That's not to say it would be a great lineup and I don't think that lineup would be able to carry a back-three rotation of Contreras/Danks/Floyd, but it would be a better-than-league-average group. But Keith speed doesnt slump. Their will be a platoon in Left. It will be the bantam weight contenders of Ozuna and Owens. I would love Nady and I would love Fukodome or even Jones. But I am worried that Kenny is gun shy after losing Jones. And if Ozzie gets his hands on the lineup in ST, he has to have his bantam weight guys flying around at the top of the lineup. Hell he brought in a 3rd base coach that specializes in bunting. You know what that means.

QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Now you need to quit misquoting me. I said IF Crede CAN come back from his MAJOR BACK SURGERY. IF. I am acknowledging the fact that he may never be the same. Even if he came back perfectly healthy. He is in his walk year, his agent is boras. So how does that + mid level prospect = one of the best prospects from one of the best farm systems in baseball.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) It just sucks that we'd be huge players for these stars on the trade market (especially Cabrera), but our minor league system just blows so much. Well the funny thing is the excuses for some of the guys we drafted. We picked up Broadway because dealer Kenny wanted someone that would be ready quickly and we could use to trade for talent. Yet its Garza who was drafted after Broadway, and he is moved for Delmon. Young would of been great in our OF. Thats the type of impact young bat we need. So not only has our minors not given us some talent outside of a guy here or there. But now the trading chips dont look like they can get us anything. Its a failure all around. Hopefully Kenny gets off his hard on for certain players or we will waste the 8th draft pick on Danks brother. What an overdraft that will be. -
QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) Yes, I really have. The Dodgers are seeking a third baseman. The Sox are looking for a left-fielder. If they don't trade Kemp for M Cab and Crede is showing that he can get back to old form, the Dodgers will look into that. And I said Crede straight up. Crede and a mid-level prospect. Not Gio or DLS. What a load of crap. What exactly has shown you that Crede can show he is getting back into old form. Have you visited him in Missouri and checked out his work in the back cage. Are you hitting ground balls to him to see his movement. At this point no one knows how exactly Crede is going to come back or hold up over the marathon of a long season. BTW outside of Chicago most people think that Crede is a nice fielder who cant hit. His low OBP scares a lot of teams away from his "talent". Kemp is a top notch prospect. The price for top notch prospects is not a 3rd baseman in his walk year who Boras represents coming off an injury + crap.

Well Kenny is still waiting for that market correction to happen. I think he does nothing. He is probably convinced that after Hunter got the money he got, and how Rowand wants a lot of mony that he is priced out of that market. He is ready to go to Owens and Ozuna as a platoon for leadoff. Uribe will be an expensive utility guy, most likely to be our starting 2nd baseman the minute Ozzie gets his hands on it in ST. Kenny will hedge his bets on the trading deadline. We will get the same speech we get every year on how flexible they can be at the trading deadline with the money they saved on not making moves in the offseason. -
Official College Football Thread

I am in East Tennesee this weekend for a road trip of installs at some of our locations in the south. Its pretty amazing how into it the Knoxville area is. Everyone was wearing Orange and the local TV was covering the SEC championship game like the Bears playoff games. In Chicago we get some college pride, however nothing like this. It was pretty amazing to see. Well time to find something to eat. Maybe something with a bar so I can see the rest of the Mizzou game. -

QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) My point is that current value wise this would be a good deal. I would rather get a mid level prospect for Crede than a pile of s*** soft tossing fly ball pitcher that will get absolutely wrecked in the Cell against the AL in the summer. Unless Cap makes the absolute minimum its a waste of a roster spot.
-
QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 07:18 PM) Crede's trade value was significantly lowered since he is coming off of major back surgery. There must be a reason Capuano was an all-star? Mark Redman was an all star as well. He is also terrible.

This is a pretty good test. I used to take typing classes back in high school with the old typewriters. Those tests were a b****. Now with my macbook. You type 424 characters per minute You have 78 correct words and you have 0 wrong words In previous tests I have been anywhere from 90 to 110 on a standard keyboard with no mistakes. I remember using the Mavis Beacon software on my old commadore 64. When I get back from my install I will have to try this on my standard keyboard.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
southsideirish71 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Actually most of the questions were total garbage. A lot of stupid stuff like "what would jesus do?". No questions on education, healthcare or energy policy. CNN is probably done getting any GOP debates from now on. From all the planted questions selected by Dems at CNN to the big planned out scene with the gay general. However, I thought the candidates handled the situation well. My favorite obvious plant was the Gay General who they claim they didnt know who he was, even though he appeared on CNN a few years back on the Dont Ask Dont tell policy. These questions were a series of plants. The Clinton News Network had some fun. Either CNN's research department is stupid, or crooked. -
Twins close to acquiring Delmon Young
southsideirish71 replied to SoxFan1's topic in The Diamond Club
The humorous part of this is that we drafted Broadway over a guy like Garza, etc because Broadway was safer pick that would be ready quickly, wouldnt have the upside but didnt matter because he would be traded anyways. What a chip Garza would of been for a team like ours devoid of position prospects. I am sure that Broadway will get the same type of interest, **snickers***. -
OFFICIAL: Sox Sign Linebrink - 4 yrs, 19 mil
southsideirish71 replied to soxbearsbulls's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(infohawk @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) Anyone find it at least a little strange that the signing hasn't become official yet? I thought I read somewhere that the physical was likely to be scheduled for Monday. I know it's only Tuesday, but I guess I thought an announcement would have come by now. Our 40 man is full, the longer we delay the official announcement the better. Maybe we can move someone from the 40 during the GM meetings. -
Congrats!!!

sox looking at Crawford, Cabrera or Crisp?
southsideirish71 replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) Cabrera would be an exciting acquisition. My guess is we get Crisp. p.s. Did the Sox ever let Erstad go? Didn't they have an option on him? I missed it if they let him go as well as Pods. They declined his option. He probably injured himself the minute he heard the news. -
I am a Bobby fan obviously. He is under control for the next 3 to 4 years. Closers can be dynamite and then suck. Its a volatile position. Plus he has a pin in his arm. I dont know if you lock him up until he gets closer to FA and keeps doing this for a while.

I picked up a TomTom One from Circuit City. The black friday sale prices were online this year on Thanksgiving. So I bought it without leaving the comfort of my hosue and will pick it up later from Countryside. It worked out great. Last year I froze my ass off waiting in a line all night for a 37 inch LCD TV at microcenter. It was nice to take this year off.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Tell that to the Orioles and Royals. Team can stink for a long time. It's all about the players. Your posts are confusing. I remember cheering and shooting off fireworks that we won 3 more games last year. In fact, you said you were all about winning this year as many games and next year be damned. The draft picks dont matter. Now you are lamenting about the players and possibly being bad for a long time. Thank god we won 3 more games and dropped our draft position by 5 spots in the last week.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) If 5/60 is the cost for Rowand, I think you have to go get him. Let's say he slips back to an .800 OPS. You still get very good defense in CF, you have a clubhouse guy, and at $12 mil, that's still not a terrible contract. A contract, that if you wished, you could easily get rid of in 3-4 years. Who says that 5 and 60 gets it done. The dodgers are looking at Rowand as their next move. Plus dont you think any sentimental thoughts that Rowand would of had was lost when Torii was woo'd instead of him. I would say Rowand takes whomever gives him the largest contract.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) It is a bit confusing how we discuss certain players based on money. Some it's ok, but others we use it against them. Crede is due $5M next year? So what? Our new SS will make about $8M. He is a former gold glove winner. Crede is superior to Fields with the glove. We have two gold glovers manning the left side of the infield and Konerko is not bad on the right side. We don't know for sure what shakes out at 2B. Upgrade to a gold glover in CF and we look pretty good. You win by defense and pitching. We lose Crede and the defense suffers. Keep Crede at 3B and negotiate a 3-5 year deal. His agent doesnt want to negotiate. He wants to go to Free Agency and make as much money as humanly possible. How many times does this need to be typed. Crede is as good as gone. You might as well fall in love with the idea. When Robin Ventura left I was upset, and he was a more complete ballplayer than Crede has ever been.
