  1. QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) I bet Juan Uribe has had his fair share. You mean twinkies.
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) So we are not trying to get more speed in our outfield? The only place where a true speed OF is in LF is on this team. Most teams have a RBI producer or a true hitter in LF. I would rather have Cabrera in LF than any of the other options we have on the table right now. Also remember, Carlos Lee was out there for years lumbering to baseballs.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) If they offered arbitration to Riske, this board would have been up in arms at the time. Actually Yas I will respectfully disagree on that one. When that went down, there was a bunch of people upset over the fact that we were losing the draft picks because of the arbitration. It was a strange decision at the time that they didnt offer him it.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) How about the guy standing at the urinal next to you who is uncomfortably too far away from his urinal. And I'm not kidding about this one....have seen it a couple times in my lifetime, the guy who pulls his pants and underwear down to his ankles at the urinal. And I'm not talking about a kid. How about the super friendly guy who decides to strike up conversation while you are either at the urinal or in the stall. And not just the obligatory Hi, the "So what do you think about this TV show that was on last night." The entire reason to go into the restroom is to get something done, and to get out of there. As I am not a member of congress, I don't go in there to meet people.
  5. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) I hate when I'm trying to take a dump in a public bathroom and somebody's gotta come and sit right next to me (only occasionally putting their hand under the stall divider, and waving it palm up in an upward direction). The guy in the public bathroom who makes so much noise you think that they are not in there for a bowel movement, but that they are about to give birth to a 9 pound baby. Then of course the same guy, who comes out of the stall all sweaty after fightin through the birth of his brown baby boy, smiles like he accomplished something, then proceeds to leave the bathroom forgetting to wash his hands. The guy in the public bathroom, who thinks its his turn on american idol. Nothing creepier than hearing some song acapella while trapped on the toliet. People who while in the stall next to you in the public bathroom, are talking on their phone. Speakerphone is worse of course.
  6. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I'd prefer it Hunter, Jones, Rowand. I know we will overpay for someone and they will underperform. I think Jones underperforming (unless it's a repeat of this year) is better then Hunter and Rowand. All 3 had career years. Hunter and Rowand had career bests while Jones had a monumental worst. If they all even settle in at their averages I'd say Jones is the best bet. If you can get him for 13 mil, maybe it's not a bad idea. And who praytell is Jones's agent, oh that would be Scott Boras. You see, Scott tells everyone that 2007 didnt happen, and his player still wants top dollar. He isnt giving a discount, this is why players like Jeff Weaver get big contracts even though people realize that Weaver is bad. Wait till he starts the bidding on Brooks Robinson Jr. next year. His powerpoint presentations on how great Crede is, and how his back is completely healed will tell you everything. He can sell damaged goods.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) The biggest volcano in the US with 3 historical eruptions that would pretty much bury Chicago in feet of ash... nope that isn't disheartening at all. I wouldnt worry about the Ash hitting Chicago. I would however worry about the sun being blocked out from the debris kicked up in the atmosphere. There are 2 other supervolcanos in the US, including Long Valley which has had some earthquakes as well, with another large lava field. I wouldnt worry about this though, 5 people from soxtalk are more likely to hit the megamillions jackpot over this happening in our lifetime.
  8. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:14 AM) We do not want Emil Brown. Trust me. Most of you already know that we don't want him. Bad bad idea. Who the hell wants Emil Brown.
  9. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) People that repeat what a character in a movie has just said - IN THE THEATRE. People who bring infant children and babies to the rated R movie at 11pm on a Friday night. If you cannot get a sitter, then maybe the movies isnt the best destination. I have seen 3 women bring babies/infants into the theater on weekend nights. The infant brought their blanket, and started to scream at the top of their lungs around 20 minutes into the movie. Mom of course staired at the kid, and didnt want to move. Security had to come and tell her that its time to calm the child down outside of the movie. People who yell at the screen. Its a video, they cannot hear your warnings that the killer is under the bed. They are also actors, and not in real danger. The realists, who have to break down out loud in the theater on how X theory is not real, yet a week before they were at the theaters watching a flying dinosaur who talks and shoots lazers. That they had no problem with.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) With our lineup though, that's not the issue at all. The issue is going to be that they'll always be hitting in front of Thome and Konerko. Which means they better either be getting on base a lot, because those 2 knock the ball out of the park a lot, or they better be getting either themselves or the person in front of them into scoring position, because those 2 guys are really good at driving folks in. If Hunter has a .330 OBP and it's Uribe, Hunter, then Thome, then I'm afraid Big Jim is going to be mashing a lot of solo shots. The only thing having him in front of Thome would be the amount of fastballs he would see. Hunter is a dead fastball hitter and would benefit from that. However his patience would not make him a good fit at number 2.
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) Only as Juanito's buffet buddy. We pick up Colon, then sign Jones for CF we could have the fattest team in the history of baseball. Jenks, Juan, Colon, and Jones. Thats a fat guy club that Peter Griffin and Madden would be proud of.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) Lance has shown me a bit at the major league level. I would wait and see on that pick. Wait until he pitches against a patient team that doesnt swing at so much crap out of the zone.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) Rotoworld talks about how the Twins are looking to trade young pitching, namely Garza, for an impact bat I say offer Fields for Garza and run all the way to the bank. We could of had him for free, however Lance Broadway was our pick.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) If they are going to do it, they need to do it right. Start trading the established players right now for good, very good, prospects. Don't half ass it. If they are going to do it, they better do it like you state above. My worry is that Kenny is trying to rebuild in place.
  15. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) They did not rebuild last year and it doesn't look like they are planning on doing it this year. If at any point in the last 10 years we have had a chance to slash and burn it was the last 6 months. When you are looking at a 90 loss dog, with fans upset about how the team is playing. It was probably one of the better times, to rebuild in mass. However Kenny wants to rebuild in place. The only way to do this, is to reshuffle the deck. This will mean a one for one. If a large contract comes in, a large contract must leave. The payroll isnt going to go up significantly, and Kenny isnt going to rebuild in the traditional sense. This will mean a longer process, and a more costly in FAs. Jerry and Kenny dont want to have another "these kids can play" mode where no one come to the park, and their revenues are hit. I am sure based on the last season, that season tickets renewals are down a bit.
  16. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) I think you are going to get your wish, but why would you be furious if inning-eater Garland is on our team next year? Don't understand. Kenny has attempted to trade Garland how many times. What scenario do you really think that Kenny is giving Garland a large fat check for 4 to 5 years. If you are not going to sign him, then get as much on the trade market as you can get. How hard is this to understand.
  17. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) I don't disagree with Josh Fields being up. His .240 clip or .300 obp doesnt thrill me but no arguement he should be up. However, many people on this board have said guys like Ryan Bruan need to be moved or traded because of how bad they are defensively. If Fields has to play left, Idk if he wouldn't be in that category. Fields is a good athlete but it's not like LF is not going to take a lot of adjusting for him. We aren't moving him to 1st, it's LF. As far as 3rd base goes. Fields had a great year for us as a rookie on the offensive side. His defense isn't anywhere near being on Crede's level. If Crede is healthy, what leads this organization to steer away from the possibility he puts up a season like 06? It's something for a team that isn't going to contend to consider. IDC what Boras thinks, if there is no market of trade for Joe, he won't get a better offer then what we give. Boras could give 2 s***s what team Joe plays for or the trade market for Joe. He wants Joe to play well and prove he is healthy so they can get paid.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) So, I didn't realize that KW said in the article that Fields absolutely won't be playing in the outfield next year. That doesn't make me very happy. We better be looking to trade Crede. Yup. So its either Joe or Josh at 3rd.
  19. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:12 AM) If Joe is healthy I really would love to keep him. That corner is on lockdown with him. The Fields to AAA thing is weird but then again, many teams do that kind of thing. He isn't perfect, maybe a month in AAA to work on a few things would benefit him. If thats not what KW has in mind and it's a misevaluation of talent...then we are in trouble. LOL Lots of teams send players on pace for 35 homers and 100 RBIs back to AAA. Especially after finishing worst in the league in offense. Especially those making the league minimum.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) Josh Fields will be starting for the Sox next year somewhere....don't overreact to what KW said. I heard the interview on the radio tonight, and it was totally bulls***. The fact that Kenny made a comment about trying to work out an extension that was met with a comment about them going to FA. Crede hopefully should be gone. My worst fear is that he doesnt move him, and instead of having Fields in LF, we have Owens because Owens is fast.
  21. Good lord. So Crede at 3rd, Owens in LF, and Josh in AAA. Hopefully this is bravado, because if this is a thought then I am going to be sick. What a shock that Boras wants to go to FA. Its what he does. Joe versus Josh
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) I have a feeling that Kenny Williams would have already had this deal done if this is all it takes to get Cabrera in a White Sox uniform. If not, he should be fired NOW and I am not a KW hater as many of you know. This is a no brainer. He is possibly the best hitter in baseball and plays good in the field. You have so many possible options if you do this trade. Keep or trade Crede. Keep or trade Konerko. Keep or trade Garland. We would finally be adding a known commodity - a known superstar - in the prime of his career with 2 years left on his contract. NO BRAINER!!!!!!!! The scary part is that Cabrera is not in the prime yet. Power hitters usually mature in their late 20s. I just shudder to think of the numbers he would put up here. OMG.
  23. QUOTE(RudyLawRules @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) He was just on WMVP and said it would take Danks, Gio, Broadway and Fields to land Cabrera. SOLD
  24. QUOTE(RudyLawRules @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Bruce Levine was just on AM 1000. Did I just hear him correctly? He said it would take Danks, Gio, Broadway AND Fields to land Cabrera. That seems a bit steep. LOL, I would drive them to the airport and check their luggage if thats all it cost.
