  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Now that we have Uribe, our manager and GM should demand this guy spend the winter in Chicago and get him in shape. My gawd, they are paying him so much money and these big leaguers just steal the money by being big, fat slobs. Get in shape, Uribe, stay in shape and listen to your hitting coach and you might actually hit .275 and knock in some runs. The Sox should monitor this guy like a hawk and get him in shape. Then he will produce. Actually he should of ignored his hitting coach, and kept what Hrniak had him do. It actually worked. They should chain him to a treadmill and run his ass off. Put him on a diet and exercise him. Then call Hrniak.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) He tends to put up an OPS+ in the 150's. So you'll be getting production similar to '06 Dye (151), '06 Thome (155) and '07 Thome (150) except he's 24 years old and only getting better. He plays in a home park that is a pitchers park by far and still put up great home numbers. Imagine his numbers here, in the summer when a pop fly goes to the Concourse.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) I don't think I've ever seen that. I'm pretty sure I'd be ill if I did. It gets better... Saw it at Yorktown last weekend. The real sad thing was that the guy was in his 30s and the girl was close to 50. Granted the guy looked he just escaped from his parents basement after playing dungeons and dragons. His girl however looked like one of those dragons.
  4. Couples Peeves. Couples who have to sit side by side in a booth, even though there is no one on the other side. The couples who look like they are about to have sex at the mall. They each have their hands stuffed into some part of the others clothing. Hands in pockets, stuffed in pants. You know whats about to go down, you just dont want to see it. The moronic couple that has the the girl wearing the "My boyfriend is hot" while the dork has the "My girfriend is hot matching shirt" Couples who dress like twins. Couples who use baby talk to each other. Think the schmoopie comments from Seinfield. Check your manhood peeve. The guy who cant go to hooters, because their girlfriend thinks its cheating. The guy who goes out to a game, and has to call his significant other like 30 times between innings to make sure she isnt mad he went to the game. The same guy who mouths off about his girlfriend, and how he told her. Then 20 minutes later you hear him whispering fuzzy bunny cutesey 3 year old talk with nicknames praying for forgiveness on the cell phone. The overly muscular guy in the wife beater who has the girlfriend with her ass/boobs/stomach/everything hanging out, who wants to fight everyone for giving his girlfriend who is desperate for attention a second glance. The 37 year old single friend who calls his married friends about 10 times during the week asking them to go out looking for girls, yet forgets that they are married with kids and cant do it. Yet follows it up with the 'You are all whipped". This is the same guy who is pricing his corvette he cant afford, and still goes to the Alumni club trying to pick up girls half his age. Propecia and Viagra are running through his system, so you should probably not knock him too hard.
  5. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) I hope Richar isn't the front runner for starting 2b unless it's in AAA. I didn't mind acquiring him because my understanding was we were looking at him as a backup/utility guy. His hot streak in AAA apparently has earned him the starting nod which makes me sick to my stomach. Go get Iguchi back if there is truly nothing else. I don't mind Tad. I'd hate to say put the old team back together but it's better than Danny Richar. Do you really think we burned Aaron Cunningham for a future backup/utility guy. The reason Iguchi was moved was to check him out. He will get every opportunity to start next year, maybe with a platoon mate. Ozuna already looks like a good platoon mate for Richar to alternate against tough lefties. Lets also give the kid more than a half of a season before we get the pitchforks out. You realize that we are not the yankees and we need to use some cheap options here and there to help with the mega millions club members on the team.
  6. QUOTE(Allsox @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) I agree with the move, especially if Uribe spends the offseason getting in shape Round is a shape. 90 loss team and we keep bringing back more members of it. It was funny, at the ASB Kenny was talking about changes. the only changes are that we got rid of Gooch and Mack. The band is still back together.
  7. Maybe we can have Project Uribe 2008, put the donut down
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) OH DEAR GOD THEY PICKED UP THE OPTION according to espn 1000 im going to kill myself. More of that low OBP, high strikeouts, and overweightness that we call slurpieball.
  9. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) I think the fact that he spent all year in Birmingham tells you the Sox intend to move him. They didn't want him exposed in AAA (where his HR problems would likely resurface in the Charlotte bandbox). They kept him in a pitcher's park to maintain his value rather than push him to the next level. Very good point.
  10. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) If Cabrera is a 3Bman why trade Konerko? Salary issues? I seem to remember the Sox saying they would pay what they have to pay. Now salary is an issue? Contreras and his $10M salary is soemthing that should be traded and not Konerko. Do you really believe that the White Sox have unlimited financial resources. They are coming off of a 90 loss dog. Do you really think that the renewals are going so well, that there is just money hand over fist here. What will give you more of a return, Konerko or Contreras. I agree the AARP pitcher making 10 m should go first. But finding someone that will accept a 10M AARP pitcher, unless they want to get the senior discount, is not that easy.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) Can we get rid of all three: Walker/Farmer/Uribe? Lets add Hawk to that list and I say the offseason is starting out well.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) At least you're blaming him and not Walker. Farmio said he's pretty sure he's coming back. If we could get rid of both that would be spectacular.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) Its apparent to me the White Sox should exercise Uribe's option. It really makes no sense to trade for someone to replace him who isn't substantially better than him, and makes more money than him. He will be playing for a contract. Hopefully he won't have any off the field issues like that shooting and his mother's health this past year, not that should be used for an excuse because he had a lot of the same offensive woes the previous 2 seasons. If Greg Walker is the poison that a lot of people around here say he is, it doesn't matter who they replace him with because he will ruin them too. Lets give it a rest on the he will be playing for a contract as motivation, and the rest of the excuses. He has enough history in the majors to prove the hitter he is. He is who he is. The talent is there, sure. The knock on him in the Rockies organization is talented, but lazy. Here we are years later, and we have the same BA, the same undisciplined approach, and now a new wrinkle a problem with keeping a fork filled with food from repeatedly entering his mouth. 5 million dollars for good defense, and horrible BA. Its like we have Jose Valentin with a bit better defense. I hope we can improve the SS position and ditch this guy.
  14. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...106marlins.html From Palm Beach Post: If this was to happen, would Fields shift to LF? Who would the Sox package in a trade like this? Who cares about what happens, if you can get Cabrera you get him. That is an impact bat.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Hey everyone, I have a huge favor to ask. My external hard drive is not working. I turn it on and all I hear is a clicking noise and the PC will not recognize the drive in windows explorer. I have tons of music and video files on the hard drive that I worked way too hard to compile over the last few years. Do you or anyone you know have experience recovering files from a faulty hard drive? Do you know anyone who does that sort of thing for a living? Please help me before I shoot myself!! Note: I definitely learned my lesson and will backup files regularly in the future. Thanks, BigSqwert The clicking noise is not good. If it was a business I would suggest just sending in to a recovery center and having them recover your data. But your MP3s and Video probably dont justify the cost. There are a few ways, and they have worked in some fashion or another. Sometimes the drive's rocker arm is physically bad and you cant do anything with it. Most of the time, its an error that can be overcome with the following things. The two ways that have worked for me when having a knock is to freeze the drive, or to rap on the drive. Freezing the drive is as simple as it sounds Remove the hard drive, place it in a plastic bag, then put it in your freezer for about 24 hours. Then take it out, and boot off of it. When it comes up, make sure you have a disk to copy your data to. The other way, is to rap your fist slightly mind you on the drive, and sometimes it will spin up. In the old large SCSI disk days, we used to slam the SCSI disk down hard, to reset the rocker arm. Sometimes it would work. Else we were going to backup tape. Hope this works, and good luck. Data loss makes a backup believer out of anyone. 200 ways to recover
  16. When you are at the gym running on the treadmill and with all of the open treadmills a person with too much cologne or perfume decides to workout on the machine next to you. After a few minutes, you feel like you are about to choke from a chemical weapon. The lady begging for money who used to be at Higgins and 290, who is now at Highland and Butterfield. She holds a sign, need help children girl 4 and boy 9. Well the boy should be 16 by now, and the girl should be 11 as she has been using the same sign and gimmick for the last 7 years.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) Considering what it would cost to get any of these 2, I would prefer bringing Uribe back playing for a contract. He has a lot of ability. The White Sox need a major upgrade at SS, or I don't see the purpose. The more money Uribe has made, the worse his bat has gotten. He has also been getting larger over the last few years. His ability is worthless is he doesnt have drive to work and make himself better.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Holy crap, I just looked, and he's actually right. Greene's OPS last year was .759, and his career best is .795. Wilson put up a .790 last year, and has a career high of .794. Greene has kept his above .700 most years, and yeah there's the Petco difference, but yowza. Greene did put up a .841 away from Petco last year, which is something, but the quesiton is how much you trust home/away splits to determine what a guy will do when you move him. There is a slight difference in the level of competition within their divisions. Green had to face significantly better pitching in the NL West versus what Wilson faced in the NL Central. The parks in the West are larger parks, pitching oriented versus the NL Central parks. I dont know if I like either, but I like them more than the human torque engine in Uribe.
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) for levine's sake I hope he's never read this board. But on the other hand, that was hysterical. If he signs up, this can be his avatar.
  20. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Rather than trade away primo talent in Crede for a guy that lost his starting CF job I would rathe go internally, or use our younger OF and AAA pitchers in a trade for a guy like Crisp Primo talent? , you and Greg should start a club.
  21. Sports Illustrated says Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday Yas.
  22. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) Gio and Fields would get it done in a hurry IMO. Why, they have enough position players that rated as high if not higher than Fields. Pitching is what they need.
  23. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) I think the headliner would be Josh Fields in a deal like this. I recall Ozzie saying near the end of the year that if they could move Fields to bring back a big time player he'd be in favor of it. If anyone needs me to get a link- I will. I'll just go ahead and believe you'll take my word for it for now. They are not giving up Fields right now. It makes no sense. The Rays are filled with great position players in their system, and need pitching. If the Rays move Crawford to us, it will be around pitching.
