  1. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) It could be that Joe Crede signs an extension and Fields is in LF. That would make more sense to me for a championship run. We have developed some good players here and it's stability and expereince that win championships and not penny pinching. You trade Crede and put Fields at 3B and you lose a gold glove defensively while maybe being close hitting wise, but I think Joe is better, but Josh has a good future. Put Josh in LF and work to develop adequate defense and you have a very good bat out there. You are ahead that way. We don't have anyone ready to step in that LF position and not much in the way of free agents. What makes you think that Joe Crede will sign an extension. Remember his agent is Bora$$. He lurks quietly during the pre-arbitration years, then goes year to year on contracts waiting till he can become a free agent. Do you really think one year away, that Bora$$ is going to take anything but top dollar for his player.
  2. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) I'll take it, Yasny. Finally a reasonable Crede comment! Crede is a good player, he is however not Brooks Robinson. Now we have found the Anti-Greg, and that is Keith Law. I picked this up from Cheats blog. This is horribly negative and terribly misguided. But is to show you Greg, that not everyone is sold on the Joe Crede is Brooks Robinson bandwagon yet.
  3. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) I forgot the green. I thought it was implied Its not really that far off with IT folks, which was the funny part. We had a guy get in trouble with HR when he created a graphic screensaver with Buffy the Vampire slayer, and he superimposed himself performing a few implied sexual acts with sound might I ad. Outside of the fact that it was pretty good production quality, the lady with the WWJD bracelet next to them called HR to complain.
  4. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) especially the part about the pictures... seriously though, unless she's dressing like Sailor Moon or some other anime character, I'm sure the IT guys leave her alone. Hey now
  5. So Walk said he would drive to the airport to pick up his replacement huh.
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 05:41 AM) I couldn't stand watching "An Inconvient truth." It was obnoxious to see Gore stroke his ego so much. What's so riveting about showing pictures of glaciers 20 years ago and now?
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) SS convinced me the flat tax is the worst idea, ever. It unfairly taxes the lowest income levels who can least afford it. Look at it like homes. If you make $500,000 per year you have a certain home. Perhaps 4-5 bedrooms, a pool, five baths, a four car garage, etc. If you make $20,000 per year you probably rent, or if you do own your home, it is a modest 1,400 sq foot 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage. Each person can afford that home. Now look at taxes paying for the country we live in. Do you want to live in the country that is built based on what the guy that makes $20,000 per year can afford to pay in taxes? That is what a flat tax would create. Instead we have to tax the individuals who can afford it the most, in order to have the security we want, the roads we want, the education we want, etc. This is not about a flat tax. Its about trying to invent new ways to get more money out of people based on the Robin Hood model. Mr. 500k needs to give more of his money to the community so we can give free matching savings accounts, free insurance, free college, and free housing. In fact, Mr 20k can sit back kick up a chair because Mr 500k will take care of his life for him. Well lets look at it based on the single tax brackets no deductions gross salaries. Mr 20k only pays 15% of his salary to the tax gods. Mr 500k pays 35% of his salary to the tax gods. Mr 500k pays his fair share of taxes. And I am not complaining about that he pays his share. Its when the democrats decide that his 35% or 175k contribution isnt enough. Its so unfair that he keeps his money we need to get more of it. So lets stop the FICA limit of 97k taxable. That can get more money out of him. Wait not enough, lets get a surcharge out of him. Now we are talking. He might want to use a deduction so lets eliminate that as well. I have a problem when they want to raise tax rates. Maybe he can give near 40% of his salary like back from 93-200 in the Clinton Years. To me Mr 500k pays enough, and contributes enough to the economy. You cant just keep trying to invent new ways to bleed a guy of money because you feel he owes you.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) There is no need to tax the wealthy. By not taxing them, they will spend their money, employing more people, and with all that growth will come more money than what the government could ever hope to get by taxing them. It's been proven, just look at the last round of cuts and the resulting surpluses. 150k is not wealthy. And that is what Rangle is talking about. Tax people, find a rate and tax them. But its kind of funny that we have a sliding scale that the more you make, the more we can dig out of you. And then to add a surcharge, like a little bonus to take out of people its sad. Then you eliminate any items like as FICA caps at 97k, and some of the deductable items. Its nothing more than a shake down. I guess being a thief is okay when you dress up like Robin Hood and tell your voters in your district look I stole from the rich, you get free everything. Woo Hoo Socialism.
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) used to wear 8, now 24. you know, 1 better than 23. Looking at that Statue outside the United Center and putting on the bulls uni should motivate Kobe to play out of his mind. We all keep forgetting, that having a legitimate stud is what seperates a team that gets into the playoffs from a team that goes to the finals. We saw last year, what happens when a hot and cold shooting team gets into the playoffs. Sometimes, they look like world beaters, the next day like crap. A guy like Kobe is the difference maker that you put the rock in his hand and let him take over. Gordon and Hinrich
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Why even tax us? Borrow the damn money, someone else will pay. Taxing is one thing. Boning someone who makes over a certain amount for no good reason is another. At a certain point, your tax rate is higher already the more you make. So whats with the inital kick before they reach in for the rest of the money.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) I love Ron Santo and Ron Santo was not better than Joe Crede defensively. Now for an entire career, yes, Santo should be in the Hall. I can't figure out why Sox fans won't admit this guy is not good, but a great fielder. Yes the pitching was more important to our WS victory Kalapse. But pitching is nothing w/out defense. To not admit the guy is a great fielder, in the same realm as Brooks, I think is stupid. He was one of the big keys to our WS victory with Dye, pitching, etc. You realize that there are players who play 3rd base today that are better fielders than Joe correct. So does that make them > Brooks. Crede is a good fielder, makes some killer plays. But you are seriously putting him up there with what people argue is the best defensive third baseman that has lived.
  12. It amazing how stupid the democrats are on their taxation plans. Goofs like Rangle can't wait to shove his hand in our pockets to steal more money. A Sur tax, kiss my ass.
  13. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 06:36 AM) God I hope so. Way to aim high. Enjoy the overweight corkscrew swinging at pitches bounced in. I forget, Hawk tells people that he can carry the team. LOL
  14. I dont know if its harassment, but this thread is worthless without pics. Comments about her body might be the kicker. Its amazing the comments people think they can get away with at work. If her attire was outrageous they should give her examples of how. Being hot is not a reason. Making comments like this is pretty damn slimey. One site
  15. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Brooks Robinson was a career .267 hitter with 268 home runs. If he played today, you guys would fry him over the coals for hitting .267. Answer this honestly. Is Crede a GREAT defensive player? A GREAT one? I don't see how you wouldn't say "yes." Can Crede hit .267 for a career and hit that many homers had he stayed healthy. Uh, I think so. What makes my Brooks comparison so wrong?? Crede is a great defender who like Brooks can get a clutch hit. Robinson had an OPS+ of 104 with a career high of 145 along with 16 consecutive gold gloves and 14 Allstar selections and won the American League MVP. Crede has a career OPS+ number of 94 with a career high of 107 with no gold gloves. And how again besides blind homerism do you think that Joe Crede and Brooks are remotely alike. Joe Crede isnt even the best 3rd baseman we have had in the last 20 years. The only person that started this silly Robinson crap was Hawk who is as objective as Bagdad Bob.
  16. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) CWS, This issue seems to be a hot button on this site, there are 2-3 posters who seem to have really strong feelings about how Anderson was screwed last spring. While spring training stats, standing alone, don't mean a whole lot, Anderson had better stats, although in less at bats. Erstad: 80 AB's. .300 average. 4 BB, 14 K's, .329 OBP, 2 stolen bases, 1 caught stealing. Anderson: 52 AB's. .308 average. 8 BB, 8 K's. .393 OBP, 2 stolen bases, 2 caught stealing. It all depends how "performance" is defined, especially in spring training. Anderson fans (Erstad haters?) don't want to hear it, but working hard, watching film, staying late, getting in early, helping teammates, demeanor, professionalism, and other intangibles are factored in. I was there and heard/saw a lot. Not that what I heard/saw means much. But let's just say Erstad > Anderson in those areas. And it is my opinion, actually strong opinion, that Brian has a habit of digging his own holes. To be frank, the real problem was Sox management relying on either Darin Erstad or Brian Anderson as CF. They badly needed a better combination of talent and intangibles, and they still need it now. I do agree that Erstad had the advantage coming into camp, primarily due to the deep frustration level the management team had with Anderson. If Erstad had totally fallen on his face he wouldn't have gotten the job in CF, at least to start the season. He didn't though, his stats were reasonably close to Anderson's and all the other stuff which can be summed up in two words (work ethic) was exemplary. Some on this site will dismiss all this as nonsense and fluff, that is ok by me, so be it. But the frustration people have with Erstad is everyone and everyone was predicting not if he was going to go down with an injury but when. I dont care how much a guy works, or is liked. If he cant get out on the field to play enough to be relied on then whats the point. You have a glorified cheerleader with a beard sitting in the dugout. We had 2 of those guys on the team last year. And both went down as predicted. I could care less about Anderson. But when all things are equal, you give the young and healthy kid a shot if he fails then you have Erstad there. The more you play an injury risk, the quicker the law of averages will take its toll. Hopefully we dont make the same mistake again by keeping either Erstad or Pods. If they are on the team, they will wind up starting in some fashion or another.
  17. Going to the press is a good way to get moved. Its also a good way to get us s*** for talent back. What a waste of a number one pick.
  18. Brian doing his part to get traded. Bye Brian, hope you enjoy the commemorative 2005 WS DVD as a parting gift. "If the White Sox are really worried about me getting at-bats, well, I sat on [the bench] and had 17 at-bats for the whole first month [last season]," said Anderson of a possible winter playing stint in Mexico during an interview with MLB.com. "Apparently, at-bats weren't that important.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) No, he is Carl Yastrzemski; that's what Hawk says anyways I still remember when ol Foghorn would do his team position by position comparisons during a slow part of the game and how he would pick the sox players over team X because the white sox players were all better. Its myopic homerism like that you get to see close up and in person at soxfest. "X year is the best soxfest I have ever seen. You are the best fans. Kenny and Ozzie, thats the best management team in all of baseball. Y Free Agent we just signed is the type of player we need on this team, When I look at Y, I think winner, grinder. Y reminds me of Z Boston Player from my time." This year we will have a new wrinkle in his speech. Last year was a perfect storm, cold weather and injuries robbed us of a championship season. When you look at the 07 sox do you see 90 game losers, I dont. With a healthy Erstad, who daggumit is a more rounded baseball player than any Torii hunter. Does Torii hunter have a ring, daggumit he doesnt. Erstad punted. That proves he is tough. He will come back from a fluke injury laden season. Erstad healthy is like having a free agent. A gold glove guy who knows how to win. When I look at the delicate eyes, his pouting lips, and the grizzly beard....as he takes a moment to lament. I see ballplayer DJ. Its like God broke the mold when Darin was built. The pitchers in the AL Central better look out, Greg Walker says they are going to pay. Hell Ozzie hired a bunting and baserunning guru, a winner. We will get back to small ball. Bunting, we will bunt when people dont have a clue we will bunt. We will run. Paully better get his track shoes on. If I was a betting man DJ, I would bet on the sox coming back into excellence this year."
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I call bulls*** on that. Joe Crede is Brooks Robinson. The modern day Brooks Robinson. His defense was crucial in the Sox winning the World Series, as well as his clutch hitting. I would take Robin Ventura in his prime over Joe Crede any day of the week and twice on sunday. Brooks Robinson my ass. What next Aaron Rowand is Willie Mays.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) I just realized we've been living with this for over twenty years. Many people here have known AIDS all their lives. The Aids crisis bankrupted a company back then. Remember adds for Ayds the appetite suppressant. In the late 70s and early 80s I remember seeing these ads. "Ayds helps you control your appetite so you lose weight. . . . Why take diet pills when you can enjoy Ayds? . . . Ayds helps you lose weight safely and effectively!" They changed the name to Diet Ayds. But it pretty much was the death blow to the company. Bad luck with the name, and bad adaptation by their branding and marketing department.
  22. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 06:20 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61584 If a deal happens at all- it won't happen before Dec 15th. That's when the Bulls can deal Noc. If they put him on the inactive list they are not waiting till the 15th to make this happen. I dont understand why you think that Noc is a reason to wait. He is a nice player, but what we call a throw in.
  23. I saw this video in the previews of the new Saw Movie. To me this was one of the best produced National Guard ads I have seen. Not some dude climbing a rock, not some guy with a catchy phrase. The song is pretty good as well.
  24. Trading Fields for pitching prospects for a team devoid of position prospects is nearly baseball retarded. Low cost players are needed to complement other players. Getting bullpen help for a young guy like Fields would be dumb.
