QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Its not about the bunt, the throwing at a player, or anything else in that article. This is Ozzie going out there and taking the attention of a team that is playing like s*** and putting it on himself, again. Everytime this team has played badly for a stretch, one of this tantrums has happened. Then the team relaxes and starts to play better. Its like Ozzie has a milkbone and all of the idiot reporters are dogs that run off chasing the milkbone to where-ever he throws it to. Is Ozzie that smart? Really. I say it's a co-inkee-dinkee.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) The question is, how long has his back hurt this year. This is a guy on the verge of a big payday. I would say that for that kind of payday, people could deal with a lot of discomfort. To me the drop off from his hot start with the bat, and the amount of errors on simple plays is a bit concerning. Look at how he works. He can make the spectacular plays. The ones he reacts to. The ones that take time, and allow him to think cause him issues this year. These are the types where he has to bend over quite a bit or follow through on the throw. Sailing a throw and not following through is something that screams the back. If you look at his fielding issues, there were he has to bend over with the ball in front of him. It takes him a bit to do that. Normally you bend you knees, level to the ball and make the play. He is trying to bend over without bending his knees. I dont know if a doctor will get near him until he signs his FA deal. Great observation. What's interesting is that normally, bending at the knees will take pressure off your back. A someone else mentioned, we really need to hear from a Dr. on Crede's situation. The Sox claim he didn't really need to go on the DL, that they just did it so that we'd have him at the end of the season. This makes no sense to me, either the guy can play or he can't.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:11 AM) From what I understand, yes. The landscape of a city has little to do with the weather. For example, St. Louis and the surrounding area had had numerous tornadoes, some quite large. Brooklyn also had a tornado last year and Atlanta had one this year as well.. I realize that landscape would have no effect on heat, rain or snow, but we're talking about wind here. I've always heard that buildings, especially tall ones, would break up the wind and not allow it to reach tornado strength. Interesting info, thx.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Or the truly Irish version, a half-and-half - Guiness and Harp. I've been describing that to everyone out here and everyone says I'm making it up.

ESPN: Dave Wilder cooperating with the FBI

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) To go off on sort of a tangent, is there anyone around who doesn't know that bringing huge amounts of cash thru an airport will most likely get it taken away? Wilder evidently. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) Put it this way. My Dad is 45 years old, has lived in Chicago pretty much his entire life, and this was the 2nd time he had heard the tornado sirens. Man, there is no sound scarier for somebody that grew up in the city/nearby suburbs than the tornado sirens. I think this might actually be the 3rd year in a row there has been a tornado warning somewhere in the city of Chicago, but they just don't actually set off those sirens unless it gets really bad. You just don't hear them very often, even going to NIU I've heard them a couple times and they still scare me big time, even as somebody who knows weather. And the whole tornadoes don't hit big cities/big buildings thing is a myth. The only reason you don't see tornadoes in big cities more often is the fact that so many of them are in areas not prone to tornadoes. That, and the fact that big cities take up such small areas of land relative to the size of the country. But I might be wrong here, you guys are probably just being sarcastic and knew that already. I don't know jack about tornadoes, I was being serious, but let me make sure I understand. For the sake of argument, let's say that Topeka, Kansas is the area in the U.S. that is most prone to tornadoes. If Manhattan had been built where Topeka stands today, that area would be equally prone to tornadoes??

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Step Brothers was quite funny. I liked it too. Did you think it took a big drop about 3/4 of the way in?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Handlebars by the flobots tru loves it. Thx. Last night, I flick the TV on and these guys were on Carson Daly's show. I guess it's proof positive that they suck.

Wrigley was evacuated? c'mon. I thought tall buildings made it impossible for a twister to build enough speed.

Who made that "I can keep time without a metronome" song?

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) When i'm playing MLB 2K8 I've got no problem throwing at the next batter after a home run. I don't think it's a big deal Do you play under the name 'Fatbrano'?

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) Nice way to read. I've never noticed our guys jogging backwards to first, hopping 4 times, watching it fly (sans Griffey) like you've never hit one before. And if they did/do, they should be hit. Not to that extent, but I've seen Pauly stare at a few. The slam in the WS, although how could he not?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) As a fan, I go with all of it simply because for some strange reason, I love seeing a bullpen clearing brawl. It's a weird fascination of mine. I love the staredown after a guy knows he's been intentionally plunked. Yeah, but most baseball 'fights' aren't any good. Hitter rushes the mound, pitcher waits for wild, round house punch that is sure to miss, pitcher ducks, monkey pile.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Another one is to get suspended for intentionally hitting a batter for no apparent reason at all. Then you force some AAA rook to crap in his pants in the middle of a pennant race. Then he will pose against your replacement and not you. Yep, I guess that's an efficient way to do it. How can you be suspended when there is no apparent reason? Nite, all I'm saying is these 'rules' are silly. Either everything is grounds for plunking or none of it is.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) Bingo. Wanna stop someone from posing? Don't let them hit a HR off of you. That simple. Posing is not a reason to hit someone. ...and one way to make sure he doesn't homer off me at his next at bat is to plunk his knee cap.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) So guys like Thome, Griffey, Konerko should have gotten beaned a couple of times? Because those players. IMO yes, but that isn't one of those stupid 'unwritten rules', at leats not any more and that's my point.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) uhh, he just admitted that he didn't call for the hit yesterday but has in the past. And posing for a HR shot when you're up by 7+ deserves a bean 100% of the time in my book He said he should have but he didn't. Posing ANY time deserves it.

I enjoy baseball because it has less cocky, showboating, big mouth a-holes than the other sports.....at least on the field. But some of these unwritten rules are a joke. Bunting, or stealing bases when you're up by 6 runs is grounds for getting beaned? Why exactly? Because it's running up the score? I guess no team in MLB history has ever come back from being down by 6 runs. KC should have put it in half ass mode I guess.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) How the f*** can anyone believe Carrasco wasn't attempting to throw at Olivo? Why, because the bases were loaded and that would defy logic? That's EXACTLY why he would do it. If it weren't intentional wouldnt you think, after the second ball inside, maybe Pierzynski would move the mit a bit off the plate? It's like when someone is plunked on an 0-2 count and DJ (usually him) suggests, "that's not what he wanted to do on 0-2." Why not? It's actually the perfect time as you can have an excuse later; the "why would I do that in a (insert game situation)" excuse. I know if I were Carrasco that's the time I would plunk someone. At the time of the incident we were behind 6-0 with Greinke dealing and the bases loaded. Ha, I can't believe people are falling for it. Thank you. Is it true that Olivo has been plunked a few times by the Sox since leaving? Wasn't he shipped off in the deal that got us Freddie G? IIRC, we were all surprised that he was dealt, it seemed to come out of left field. Later, we found out that the Sox were unhappy with his play, specifically his game calling, etc. I wonder if Ozzie has a little bit of a grudge against him? Am I reaching?

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) Nah, probably not. I have a few of their songs on the Pod, and it's always good when those songs come up on shuffle, but I'm not fan enough to want to see them live. I saw that performance on YouTube, it was good but not exceptional, but I'm guessing it's not really representative of a true live setting. These days, I have to really be into a band to go to a concert. I'm pretty burnt out on the whole concert thing at this point. I hear you and $18.00-$20.00 is the most I'll pay to see anyone.
