  1. No mention of 'The Beast'? Life's too short to drink s*** beer. Fork over the extra loot and get quality.
  2. QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) I don't know what face I expected that voice to come out of, but that wasn't at all what I imagined! I like the Hold Steady well enough, but I do get that "heard one song, heard 'em all" vibe from them. Their live shows would change your mind. That's why their live shows are such a big part of the appeal. But I guess if you feel that way, you'd never be interested in seeing them live.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:25 AM) I as well. One would think he at least imagined the situation, but some people might be able to somewhat randomly act out in this way. Maybe he always carried the knife with him, just in case he decided it was time. Another question is what made his victim stand out? Did he look tastier than the rest of the passengers? In addition to being a fly on the wall during interrogations, I wouldn't mind being his big, mean, violent, jailed for life inmate. Wasn't the victim sitting next to him on the bus? Horribly, bad luck. Normally, I'm all for torturing people who commit violent crimes, but this is a special mfr. Clearly, this animal has no sense of reality, so this is one of the few times where I say you gotta lock him up in an asylum. By the way, I like the way your brain works Jake.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) I wonder how long the killer planned what he was going to do. Did he plan his actions? Did he already know when he got on the bus that he was going to do the deed to someone? Did he immediately pick out his victim? Was eating him part of the plan or did it just seem like a good idea at the time? Since he had the knife on the bus with him, it seems like planned the stabbing at least. I have a serious fascination with these kinds of people too. I would love to be a fly on the wall during the interrogation.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) He was limping in the outfield prior to the game according to people in attendance. Didn't seem to affect him when he made that nice diving catch.
  6. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Anyone checked out the new Hold Steady album? You're welcome. Enjoy.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) The concept is right, but tomorrow is a very big game. I don't care who it's against, a series win on the road against ANY team is a plus. After this tough trip, ending it with a series win, and coming home on a positive note is a big plus. It's a tight divisional race, every game is big. You play one game at a time and you play them hard. The lead in the division will go back and forth so often, it's unfair to put yourself on the emotional rollercoaster with every game. You don't plan a parade when the team has a two game lead and you don't put a gun in your mouth when the team is two games out.
  8. QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 12:30 AM) I don't have the time nor the inclination to do it, but I wonder how many times this year our lead has been a half game and the Twins lost. It seems like a couple times a week. We REALLY need tomorrow's win. NO, it's not a MUST win, but we need to grow a pair, and kick the crap out of KC. We don't need tomorrow's win more than any other win. We only need to finish on top at the end of the season. Nothing else matters.
  9. Do you think she was this wacky before the attack? http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/0...ref=videosearch
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) It's nice to stay in first place, but a day out of first place in not the end of our season, contrary to the feeling of some posters on this board. As a matter of fact, the harsh reality of second place could be a nice motivator to get our game in gear. If we were five games out of 1st place right now it would not be the end of our season. People forget how long two months is and how much can happen. But everyone will jump ship when the team falls a few games out of 1st and those same people will say they didn't when the team wins the division.
  11. What did Hawk have to say about the Griffey pick up?
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:10 AM) Comedic effect. I was really hoping so.
  13. When I read things like this I don't get over dramatic, but this could literally happen to anyone. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/07/....bus/index.html
  14. On paper, this is exactly how dominant that Cub team should be. I'll say it again, anything less than getting to the WS will be a complete failure for that team. I don't care which of their players get hurt, or what other team gets red hot. No more excuses, if they fail they suck balls.
  15. I have totally forgotten what I bought for mine. WOW.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Phones are 555 because if Hollywood used your phone number instead of 555, you'd be pissed at the number of calls that you'd get from morons at 3 am. Mics get feedback because they need to be calibrated to the distance between them and the system speakers. Too close level and distance-wise and you get feedback. I meant, in movies, why is there feedback every time someone speaks into a mic?
  17. I cannot remember being so anxious for and then so disapointed in a new record like I was for the last Portishead release. That record is absolute garbage.
  18. The players don't listen to Hawk, or the fans or anyone else. If the Twins own the Sox it's because they flat out play harder, period. Anything else is a weak excuse.
  19. weird, no mention from ESPN and they just did a full MLB trade rumor piece, including Manny to the Marlins.
  20. Do we have definite details on the trade yet? Griffey for.....?
  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Yeah, I got it. Haven't got to really sit and listen to it yet, but it seems pretty solid after a few times. I can't believe I'm gonna say this because THS is probably my favorite current band, but I'm dissapointed in the bits I've heard. I've yet to listen to all of it straight through.
  22. In movies, Why does the phone number always start with 555? Why is it that every time someone speaks into a mic in there's feedback? Any other 'always' you've noticed?
  23. "I'm coming home for the weekend, I might catch Hollywood Holt at the empty bottle. Might I see anyone else there?" I'm easily confused.
  24. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) in one of his recent mailbags gonzalez mentioned that paulie's lost a lot of weight. edit: it was actually on the radio with coppock this past saturday morning. I've only seen bits and pieces of footage of him in the past two years and it's obvious to me. His legs are kinda thinner but especially his chest and shoulders. In addition to his hip issue, is there something going on that is limiting his workout routine?? Maybe it's the wrist.
