  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:31 AM) It's based off the pulitzer prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy (who wrote No Country for Old Men). I recall an article posted on Fark last week where it was rated as the best novel of the last 25 years. That doesn't mean it'll automatically be the cinematic equivalent of NCFOM, but from what I've read on the production, it's closely following the storyline. If the filmmakers capture the feeling of the novel I don't know how anything can compete with it. That's why I'm throwing all my praise onto this movie now. There's nothing within the novel that sets an exact time period, though. It's about a father and son traveling across America in a post-apocalyptic setting. Technology is nonexistent. I'll let you be the guinea pig.

    Music

My iPod lost it's appeal, quickly. I don't even know where it is. I'm too lazy to pick and choose what to load in and then actually input it and then update it. Call me crazy, but it's too time consuming. I buy CDs and play them in the car, period.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 12:22 AM) I don't know about all year. We have been shut out I think 9 times and in some of those games the Sox looked hopeless. Baseball is a marathon as everybody knows. Some days we suck; some days we don't. Hopefully Jose will pitch seven shutout innings Sunday and we'll look good again. ..... and if he doesn't, then back up the truck and trade everyone. I'm sick of not winning every single game.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) No way I'd want to win 300M. Life = ruined. I'd honestly rather win 1 million. You could do that and move on with life, and it would be a good life. One mil ain't what it used to be, I can spend that in a few hours. I'd take 3 mil, spend 1, invest 1, save 1.
  5. The Cubs are the third best team in baseball. 1. Red Sox, have not hit on all cylinders yet, but they will. 2. Angels, don't snooze, they might quietly take it all. 3. Cubs, best in the NL, no doubt 4. Tampa? They might be the Tigers of 06 or the White Sox of 05. I'm not sold yet.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) ummmm but Thome sucks, hes only hitting like .240 or whatevar, he is the absolute suckiest player of like all time On pace to end up with 100 rbi's and close to 40 hrs. What do you think we can get for him in a trade? Couple of minor leaguers maybe?
  7. Jimmy has lost his power. Do we need Paulie? This.Team.Is.Dead
  8. Yep yep yep, it's almost here. The Hold Steady's next record will be out in a week. Anyone heard any of it yet?
  9. Death is permanent. Dead teams don't come back to life. Smart fans don't follow teams they believe are dead. Quit following this team if you believe it's dead. What else may I assist you with?
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) I'll never understand why more teams didn't go after Harden. Why'd the A's give him up? Some in baseball must know something about that arm, stay tuned.
  11. "....Right fielder Jermaine Dye finished second in the fan voting for the final spot on the AL All-Star team. Dye was edged out by Tampa Bay Rays rookie Evan Longoria, but by how many votes? No one seemed to know. That's why a few Sox players were questioning the legitimacy of the process....." Did I miss this? Which players?
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) I've heard the same. A few friends went over their about 3 years ago and they said all the locals drink U.S. beer .....at room temp.
  13. 'The Foot Fist Way'. Check it
  14. Is it true that Budweiser outsells Guinness there.....especially among younger people?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) to be fair, it's not like his jump was from ten things I hate about you to the dark knight. He had oscar performances before in Brokeback mountain, and even in a short role you could see the shift to serious actor in Monster's Ball. And, I think Ledger's performance might be a little better than cesar romero's performance. The joker portrayal has become darker and more sinister as time goes by. Nicholson was still likeable and Romero was, um flamboyant. From what I've read, Ledger brings the darkness.
  16. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Don't knock Ceasar! You can knock John Astin's Riddler, or Lee Merriweather's Catwoman, but Ceaasar's Joker and Merideths' Penguin are above reproach. Even if Romero couldn't be bothered to shave his moustache for the role, and even if his hair was red instead of green. Hell yeah, Romero was the goods.
  17. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 03:20 AM) People are afraid to publically criticize the dead. Everyone is glamorized. Except Anna Nicole Smith. Everyone laughed at that. I can't say anything about his performance, obviously, but Oscar-buzz generally translates well into a nomination. And if Heath's nominated, he's winning -- regardless of the competition. You just can't let a dead man lose an oscar, and all miss out on all the publicity it will generate! Let's not forget the potential heart-filled acceptance speech from, what I can only guess, will be his wife. She'll be welcomed to the stage by an uncomfortably long standing ovation. The cameras will include frequent shots of their daughter in the audience. Perfect drama for whichever network is carrying the Academy Awards. The Road will win Best Picture, too. I'm just throwing that out there right now and taking credit four months before its release. I looked up the toxicology report. Wow, I thought I was bad, that guy had a hard time falling asleep, eh?. Isn't The Road too futuristic/sci/fi ??
  18. I haven't seen Batman Dark Knight yet, but there is already Oscar talk for Ledger. Let me phrase this tactfully, I find it interesting how artists (musicians and actors) suddenly become brilliant after their deaths. Especially if they died young and suddenly. Sometimes it even stinks of shamelss promotion. The Joker is such a great character to begin with, I'm trying to think if I've ever seen anyone play him poorly. Maybe all the hype is valid, but I'll wait and see for myself.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) Classic. He writes responses to the comments like a little kid. Not unlike the one word responses I have received from him on email as well. ...and he doesn't take on the ones that make sense.
  20. If you're not over it yet, read the replies to Cowley's 'Cabrera Island' article in the Sun-Times today. Good stuff.
  21. From what I've read, it wasn't until near the end of the match that he complained of 'back pain' and was helped off the field. How did he manage to ref the game?? Or did he get lit up during halftime? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeSxVujpRRU
  22. The team that scares me the most on paper is the Tigers. The team that defies logic year after year and will hang on til the bitter end will be the Twins. Book it.
  23. saw 'Wanted' tonight and I was expecting it to suck, but I enjoyed it. Angelina is hotter than ever, the violence was absurd and the Chicago scenes are kick ass. A rental for sure.
  24. Extremely obscure reference, only for die hards. That's either good or bad for a T Shirt. I think you'd spend a lot of time explaining it.
