  1. How the ef the Milwaukee end up 5 games back so quickly? Weren't they just in second and only 2 games back? The Cubs, Cards and Brewers are all 6-4 in the last 10 games.
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) There's a big difference between an ugly win and Winning Ugly. Even though we didn't make the Promised Land, '83 was a special season. So forgive the old farts their nostalgia. '83 broke my heart worse than all my other heartbreaks put together.
  3. I secretly root for KC, except when they play the Sox. Playing there cannot be what the players dreamed about. I guess you just take that nice fat check and live it up....and it beats selling insurance or used cars.
  4. I gotta say the play by play on this game thread leaves a lot to be desired right now. Reminds me of Farmio on the radio. WTF happened?
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) Hilarious! RIP Ivan Calderon... And for you old folks, Quentin's stance reminds me a lot of Rod Carew. Anyone else? Kind of, but IIRC Carew leaned back a lot more and the bat hung lazily over his shoulder. Carlos looks like he's ready to fight off a bear.
  6. Sad but true on Juanito. Carlos Quentin's is my new favorite. He looks like he means business up there and like there's no way you're getting anything past him. Bad ass.
  7. He looks 18, but that doesn't mean he's not 16. Amazing, if that kid is smart with the loot, he might never get any further in baseball and still be set for life. Oh yeah, and Greg Oden and Bill Russell are the same guy.
  8. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I'll call your apples and I'll raise you some oranges. I was already tired of Ed Farmer saying "it feels like 2005, folks" twice a week, so I'm beyond bored at the comparison by now. For me, nothing can or will be better than the 2005 playoff run, so there's no point in any comparison. The 2005 regular season gave me some heartburn in the second half, but that playoff run was the best time I ever had watching sports. I agree. Could it really ever get as good as 05 again? Sure, a Sox team at some point might come along and win 120 games and steamroll through the playoffs, but I don't think it would be as good as 05 in terms of enjoyment for the fans. Unless of course another 80+ years go by before they get there again.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Good depends on your definition of good. Murton, Patterson and Gallagher will all have extended major league careers as starters. The Cubs didn't have open positions so they aren't really effected by the loss of the talent but the A's will be able to plug all three of these guys into there lineup immediately and in Gallagher's case you are talking about a guy with #2/#3 starter upside (very live arm). Given Harden's injury history, I think you could call the deal a very fair return (especially since all three of the main pieces acquired should immediately become starters in Oakland). Hell yeah, and if Dick Hardon gets hurt, then the Scrubs got majorly hosed. I like the deal for both sides though.
  10. I always thought keeping the score from the viewer/listener was intentional. How else do you keep them listening longer?
  11. Playoffs are a whole other level and there is no sub for experience. Count, Mark, Javy, fight over the rest.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) If Harden stays healthy the Cubs are by far the best team in the NL now. Yep and anything less than a WS appearance would be a complete failure.
  13. I'm the 3rd. My dad, grandfather and I have the same first, middle name and of course last name. My dad has always been very proud of our name especially after my grandfather passed. When I was younger he'd ask me if I was gonna pass the name along to my son and I'd always say of course. When I got older I decided I would want my son to have his own name and his own identity. Luckily, I don't have any kids. It would kill my Dad if I didn't pass the name along.
  14. Watched 'The Promotion' cuz it was shot in Chicago and the previews looked kinda funny. Very confusing in it's rhythm. A lot of the funny parts were shot in slow mo, or with dramatic music in the background. Also watched 'Savage Grace' with Julianne Moore, very good, she's good almost always, but somewhat disturbing subject matter. Not sure why, but I really want to see 'Wanted'. Anyone get hosed otta nine sheets to see it yet?
  15. I like the plan going into the game. Be agressive on the bases, cuz Harden won't give you much.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) smuggle back the next hot sox Cuban. he's gonna wack Fidel.
  17. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) I'll be taking pictures when appropriate and I'll definitely be sharing them. here and on my personal site (in my sig). We have tourist visas, so it's a legit visit for the record. Though I cannot say what our visit is for or where we'll be going (until we get back). How the eff did you manage a tourist visa?
  18. Wow, I'm jealous. Please take lots of pics (if you're allowed) and keep a diary.
  19. Have the Olympics lost their appeal? Besides the hoop squad, does anyone have any interest in other events?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) It took incredible testicular fortitude to even think of a mission like this. The videos are just incredible. Indeed. They went in unarmed on a total gamble. I hope this doesn't worsen the treatment of the hundreds, possibly thousands of hostages that Las FARC still has. I remember when Betancourt was running for Pres and thinking it was only a matter of time before she was taken hostage. You don't make getting rid of Las FARC your political platform and expect to live to tell about it. She is incredibly lucky.
