responding to this jackass just makes him happier. treat him like a four-year-old and ignore him when he misbehaves. and who really gives a f*** what this douchebag says anyway?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I think he is better defensively, I dont care what Griffey was, A-row picks up his teammates and has been gold glove caliber this year. And he is the man in the clubhouse and is a work-a-holic, which is the opposite of Griffey who is known to be lazy. No thanks i have a problem when people say stuff like "is known to be lazy." i have heard that, but i've also heard people say he works his ass off. the lazy stuff came from people theorizing that a poor-offseason work ethic was the reason for his hamstring problems. that was a theory, though, not a fact. i totally disagree with the clubhouse thing. i know people who work in the clubhouse and they have all said he's one of the best teammates to have. he doesn't get along that well with the media, so perhaps that's where that perception came from.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) No way I would give up A-row to get Griffey. No way in hell. i would have to at least consider that. i love rowand, but salary aside he is not as good as griffey.

how long until this shows up on espninsider as "white sox interested in griffey"

QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) it said contreras MIGHT be in the trade on rotoworld, i'm just saying it makes the trade that much worse if he is in it. also, konerko will be on @ 3:48 on espnnews that rotoworld update was based on a story from today's trib. since the paper hit the street it appears (at least through the radio reports) that the count is not in the deal. at least that's what they're saying. right now. as for the quotes from the marlins gm, that's just a bunch of posturing. he knows they're f***ed if they keep aj.

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) I'm not saying we'll be a last place team, or that our franchise is in trouble, but replacing PK with Lowell would not make us a playoff team in 2006. We can have all the pitching we want, but you still need to score runs and last time I check, having power is still apart of baseball. Lowell...15-20 hrs a season, PK...30-40 hrs a season, that is a huge dropoff. this is just an opinion, but lowell hits more than 15-20 homers for the sox. he'd be going from one of the worst home run parks in the bigs, to one of the best. not saying this to back any arguments, but imo if lowell is with the sox next year he's hitting 25-35 homers.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) If we do aqcuire Mike Lowell. Does this mean KW's patience have ran out for Joe Crede? He is starting to heat up offensively and I don't think there is a better defensive 3B. Hmm.. Lowell just seems like a downgrade to me. what do you guys think? i think it could have as much to do with paulie's future as it does crede's.

having heard us bashed over the years i try to refrain from making generalizations based on my experiences with a few people from any group of fans. except the cubs and packers.

all i know is the a.j. burnett 24-hour window is not going to be good for my work productivity today.

Despite being in first, White Sox just cannot win

QUOTE(mreye @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) I actually thought it was a pretty fair article. fair or not, there are other more interesting topics to choose from. having worked in the business, i can tell you how this story happens. every major sports department in the country gets the ap wire. when the ap moved that story on sox attendance a month or two ago, sports editors probably pulled it and said we can localize this as a take-out piece if the sox are still good when we play them. at that point the story gets filed away, then trotted out again a month or so later. the reporter gets the assignment, takes his impressions from the initial story, updates some numbers and voila. readers of the boston globe never saw that ap story so it looks as if some actual research and story development was done here. i do agree the story is fair. the problem is that it is far from the best and most compelling story out there concerning this team. and from a reader standpoint, if i live in boston i probably don't care about the sox attendance that much. -

jesus h. f***ing christ can we give it a goddamn rest already on this attendance bulls***. f***. is the the only story to write? piss-poor f***ing journalism again. -
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Carl doesn't believe Konerko exists. well, paul does move in kind of a brontosaurus kind of way.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) He sounded very mature, talked to fast though. Basically talked about how he now has confidence pitching in the majors, yesterday it was big for him to get into that jam and be able to get out of it. Was asked if he's been approached about closing and if he's itching to close in the bigs. Says at this time the bullpen has been very good and he doesn't care about closing right now, just wants to pitch. Uhh, that's basically about it,it was a pretty short interview but it was nice to hear him, he seems much more grown up then when he was with the Angels organization. thanks.

any recap would be appreciated.

Frank...how patient are you willing to be with him
thedoctor replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
it's just going to take time. frank has at points started slow in his career. this combined with the lingering effects of his injury probably make him a little bit less than normal now. imo, frank will be fine when we need him to be fine, i.e. august, september and october. i think it's more remarkable that even with his struggles he's still be a huge contributor to our team even at his current level of play. i don't have the numbers in front of me but iirc we are scoring about a run more per game since he's come back. -
i'd have to say no thanks on dunn. i just don't think he's a fit - he strikes out way too much for starters. plus, and this is a small thing but dude only has eight sac flies in his career. he had none last year. that does not speak well to his desire to "take one for the team."
-
i highly doubt we give him a look, but he is having a helluva year.

perry farrell playing a sox game? man, those salad days of jane's addiction and pornos for pyros are looking distant.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Are we talking about foot-falling-off Schilling or normal Schilling? I'd take normal Schilling, too. he did not specify, i just thought it was an absurd comparison to make at a time when schilling is failing as a reliever.
-
well, ya know we haven't done too badly in ross's absence...
-
here's insight into this guy: in his same rant, he said he'd rather have curt schilling starting the first game of a playoff series than mark buehrle. nuff said.
-
until we win in the postseason these guys are going to have some skepticism. that's just how it is. we're wasting time having hissy fits every time some douchebag in an espn jacket says we're not for real.

Weber Receives Contract Extension
thedoctor replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Idonno if that was a great idea.... He won yes.. but he won with another coahes players.... Id of liked to see him win with his players b4 getting a long contract. totally disagree. what illinois needs more than anything now is coaching stability. the only reason this team has not been a consistent top-10 national team over the past decade is the massive coaching turnover that's happened in that time frame. this is the right thing to do and the right guy to do it with. besides, weber took a deal that is probably less than many other coaches would get, and he took less so his assistants can get more. that's the kind of guy i want representing my university.
