  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) It's good to have the paperwork in there. no doubt. on an unrelated non-recruiting note, am1000 is saying that wilson chandler is going pro.
  2. i think it makes sense for conley to go. although he can clearly use more development (particularly of his offensive game) he is most likely the top point guard in the draft. next year he'll be third, and possibly fourth (mayo, rose, lawson).
  3. i noticed another reference to "jacob" last night. the last one was in the clockwork orange episode earlier this year, iirc. wondering who this guy is and if he is on the island.
  4. have a great one and drink well. just don't end up in a well after you drink.
  5. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Didn't really like the Wednesday episode. I like the reality of the show and that there isn't that much sci-fi but the smoke monster tests me. The whole sex triangle thing, rain fight, yada, yada, yada is tiresome. Still think the show is top shelf. The Locke thing interests me and is a great twist. If you can go back and watch season one it is great to tie them together. I am watching them now and it is really cool, especially the Locke stuff. i'm wondering if locke isn't going to ascend to some role of superiority with the others. clearly they know he's been healed by coming to the island and i'm wondering if that will let them view him as a kind of "chosen one" or something.
  6. the kid went through a lot this year. tons of injuries and having a dad suffering from terminal cancer is just brutal. still he played with a lot of guts and heart and when he played you knew what you were getting. he can play on my squad any day.
  7. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Congratulations I figured I'd win getting all the final four and the champion thanks. it's bittersweet, though. typically i suck in pools so this is the year i decided to not do a money one. great idea on my part.
  8. you have to think this opens the door for osu assistant john groce to go to butler.
  9. mike conley is the truth. clearly ohio state's best player. a lot of gators in that dome tonight. they will have a fan advantage monday.
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) Yeah, I'm pretty sure that fathom is not an illini fan at all (although I think he may have gone there?). And I probably misread that. you did. my agreement was that sampson should not be pilloried the way he has been. i think he did what most (all?) coaches would do if presented with a similar scenario. although i think he should have called weber, it's a small point. the gordon's do deserve some blame in the situation, but that does not absolve bruce of missing out on another high-profile recruit.
  11. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) Well, by agreeing that the gordon family deserves full blame, that's what it sounds like, but I meant weber loyalists in general. Plenty of weber supporters on other boards and probably on here have used that type of argument to combat all the criticism he gets. well there's a lot of blame to go around in this situation, plenty for weber and the gordon's both. again, on this board, the one we are posting on, i haven't seen anyone absolve bruce of blame. if you want to start citing things you see elsewhere we can start holding depaul fans here accountable for some of the absurd things their fans state on other boards. to me, that's a bit weak. i'd prefer to debate the people who are here for the debate, not try to incite further disagreement by citing things no one here is saying.
  12. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) All parties deserve blame, but ultimately weber lost him. And with his track record with elite recruits, it's not crazy to assume that he may have had some missteps or not done what was necessary to hold onto gordon. The excuse that weber is not to blame at all since he's dealing with immature teenagers who change their minds and are easily swayed can only go so far because that's what exactly what recruiting is. He's a good coach and he's still bringing in pretty solid players, but some criticism should fall on his shoulders for not capitalizing on the succes of a couple of seasons ago and turning that into top recruiting classes. He did swing and miss on a few attainable elite recruits, so that made the gordon situation look a whole lot worse. I only hope weber's troubles can maybe give Coach Wainwright a little recruiting edge when recruiting the same player. who here has said weber is not to blame?
  13. also, let me be clear here. i have no animosity toward gordon. he's a fantastic player and will be a great addition to indiana's team. i totally get the fact that he grew up rooting for indiana, has a bunch of friends there, and only didn't commit because he was not interested in playing for mike davis. i get all that. but, as i've said already, people i know who are close to the situation and have no reason to lie say that neither gordon nor his father were at all straight with weber at any point of the process. weber took them at their word since they'd had a relationship dating back to gordon being in grammar school. and he got burned for that. hopefully he learned a lesson. but again, i wish gordon well except for when he plays illinois. hopefully he learned something from this whole process too.
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) Gordon says he was upfront with them; I've never heard Weber say that he wasn't. The bottom line is that if the Illinois coaching staff had made Illinois a more attractive destination, Gordon would have gone there. The fact that all Illinois has to replace him is a 3 star recruit is on Weber, not Gordon. It would be nice if Illini fans could simply respect Gordon's decision. this shows a real lack of understanding of what happened in this situation, so i'm hesitant to even address it. what i will say is that there is no way weber can come out and comment on this situation. if he comes out and rips the gordon's that becomes a tool for anyone who is ever recruiting against illinois. frankly, weber needs no more recruiting problems then he already has.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) That's what I'm saying.....the fault should go totally towards the Gordon family, and Sampson doesn't deserve the hate he's received. i would agree with this. although i think sampson could have handled it better (even he's acknowledged he probably should have called weber) i don't think he can be blamed for pursuing the situation, particularly after senior asked for him to recruit his son.
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) You're asking for articles older than six months now. All I can really point to is the blog posts on the IndyStar's site. The IU beat writer had articles discussing EJ and Rose's visit to Bloomington back at the beginning of September. http://blogs.indystar.com/hoosiersinsider/...d.html#comments That's proof it wasn't secret. He wasn't visiting Bloomington for the hell of it, or for the sole purposes of going to a football game. Everyone knows he was on the IU campus, because he was thinking about coming here. sure, it was known that they were both visiting the school. but at the same time, it was passed off differently to illinois's staff and by gordon and his father, who at that time were both posting on illinois's message boards. and everything i have heard from people i trust suggest that gordon was not at all straight with weber and even called him a week before the decommit to give weber a list of reasons why illinois was a better fit. but really, it doesn't matter. what's done is done and he'll be a hoosier, not an illini. that's all fine, but no one is going to convince me that gordon and family (who had a LONG relationship with weber, btw) were straight with illinois. now, it can be argued that weber should have "read the writing on the wall" but it was probably easy to ignore that writing when there were behind-the-scenes assurances happening.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) well put, now stop b****ing illini fans, hes going to be a hoosier. illinois fans will stop complaining here when indiana fans quit bringing it up. i'm guessing that isn't going to happen.
  18. apparently he got hit on his pitching arm with a line drive on his second pitch of the game. no details yet, they just mentioned it on the radio out here.
  19. the only thing we haven't seen with this guy is having his arm actually fall off while he is on the mound. when it happens i hope that game's on wgn.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) Pearl reportedly turned them down this morning. no pearl a lot was made about the big ten not wanting pearl, but i always thought pearl wouldn't want to come back. if he did he'd be forced to dredge up the past and i'm sure he's not really interested in doing that.
