White Sox v. Orioles

Dunn a hit against a lefty. Stone calls it an infield hit though Roberts ranged to his right in shallow right center field. -

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Ah feck. Better than nothing, I suppose. That's what I usually do for the games as they're generally on too late for me to watch live - watch them the morning after in work. Today is great, as it's one of the rare times in a week when I get to come home and stick on the game at a reasonable hour. Excuse Me I started the game thread 4 minutes before you Joxer . Are you all blind -
Happy Independence Day everyone !! Here's hoping the Sox provide some fireworks and hit a few bombs.

If this doesn't belong in Trade Winds feel free to move it. Under the KW regime the Sox didn't trade many veterans and never really had to eat any salary. It's obvious the Sox are going to looking for young inexpensive talent and in order to get that talent Hahn may have to bite the bullet and pay a part of the remaining contracts of our high priced vets. Salary dumping is all well and good but you can't remake a team through free agency alone since those guys are the very definition of veteran over priced talent. I know the contracts of Rios and Peavy are reasonable and Dunn's is not based on his limited tool set. I think it's imperative ,when faced with the reality of eating salary ,Hahn does not hesitate if it makes the difference in getting the types of players he wants.

We watch the games and want the Sox to win but we also want a high draft pick. Can't have both. # the struggle is real -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) 5 straight multi-K games for Flowers Sox have lost quite a bit of power this year. No AJP , Beckham down, Alexei down , Viciedo down and Konerko down. Gillaspie probably ends up less than Youk . So way less runs via the HR, and the defense are the biggest contributor towards the down fall. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) Phegley with his 15th homer of the year. You have to wonder if they go ahead and make the change after this month and give Phegley a shot to show what he can do. I think we need a poll about will the Sox promote Phegley before or after he reaches Super 2 status or w/e it's called and w/e that date is. Gimenez serves no purpose other than another lefty and I can't remember if he's been used as a pinch hitter at all but I highly doubt it since I'd wager the SOx are near the bottom in number of pinch hitters used in the AL. -
Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) I think this injury will irreparably harm his trade value. How much is debatable, but a pitcher just coming off an arm injury is always a big risk. We didn't do this for s***s and giggles, he clearly has something going on or they wouldn't have told the world that he's having a problem right before he gets traded. Step away from the ledge. Yes Crain is the only piece the Sox actually have to move but I'm telling you he will be ready to rock n' roll once he comes back. Might be a bit of a dead arm thing. He's been throwing a lot of curves. Though I am one of the first to say I think the Sox can be competitive as soon as next year, realistically most are looking toward 2015. Hahn maybe sell off lesser pieces first and wait til closer to the deadline to deal the big boys . He might just price Peavy and Rios out of the market this year if he's got an eye on next year to compete. -
Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Anyone think this is the White Sox shutting him down in order to keep him from being injured until they can trade him? Or maybe he's already traded ,so scan the minor and major league rosters to see who else is being put on the DL while they work out the rest of the deal. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:55 PM) I'm telling you, Crain is not going to bring much at all. He's in his last year of a contract and yes, he does get hurt, and he's aging. What is everybody realistically expecting? I'd say one average prospect and cash. Kudos to Dunn for that month just completed. He does deserve credit. But any team trading for him also is getting Mr. Whiff. Dunn suddenly is not going to be great.A team should not risk much for him. Just dumping some of that salary would help. Something for Crain is better than nothing considering the Sox would be getting offers from quite a few teams . A best offer is better than no offers.

Jesse Crain dealt to Tampa Bay
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
After the game, Ventura said reliever Jesse Crain didn’t pitch in the eighth inning because of tightness in his right shoulder, per CSN. -
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Don't want this topic to get lost in the game thread so I'll move it over here. Perhaps because Adam Dunn is one of the best hitters in baseball this past month. I'm sure it's been pointed out over and over again by other posters but I haven't seen them so I'll reiterate. Adam Dunn over the last month is batting .274, .402 obp, an ops near of .991, with 10 bombs and 24 driven in. Those 10 hrs and 24 rbis are good for 3rd in the majors in both categories. Ya, those stats blew my mind too. If I were the Yankees I'd be asking about him. They aren't going to win anything with Kronk and Lyle Overbay as their 1b/DH combo. Both those guys are gone next year and you know they have the money to pay him. I've posted it in the Adam Dunn thread . But yes he's been much better. And Orioles DH's haven't been so good either. Also hold your breathe for this according to CSN : After the game, Ventura said reliever Jesse Crain didn’t pitch in the eighth inning because of tightness in his right shoulder.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) Thank you. I was just about to say the same thing. 5 pages on Adam Dunn. Enough I was wondering why they never moved the Adam Dunn thread up in here.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) If he can get a damn hit when someone is on base is all I care about at this point. If he gets RBI's who cares with the team we have now. I'm fine with that too not ,just from power positions like 3rd, 5th or 6th. He finally seems to be getting to the point of making contact ,getting singles and doubles. The crouch has eliminated chasing the high balls . Let's see if he can keep it up 1st, but I wouldn't object to him batting 2nd now. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) I would like to see him more in an RBI spot of the line up. See how he would do batting 3rd, 5th, or 6th No homers this year so no. -
2 HR's Gillaspie and Dunn . Danks strong 7 innings . Reed save. No errors. Beckham 3 hits.
