QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) I'm not talking about perception, not the actuality. Like power forwards should rebound (the anti Bosh) and point guards should be creative passers. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, but that's part of the reason we've spent so much time and energy and resources drafting players like Mitchell, Walker and now Tim Anderson. Because KW/Hahn have always desired that prototypical guy, ever since Pods became an ineffective basestealer and they also tried to force Pierre into the role when he was no longer effective in that role. Finally, some of those teams without a lot of steals from leadoff....I'm going to bet they came from teams where they had strong 3-6 hitters i the order and they didn't want to sacrifice outs on the basepaths. Whereas this Sox team has to be more creative in finding ways to score. Maybe we should deal with reality. The farther we get away from the PED era , if that's even possible, speed , pitching and defense becomes more important at as many positions as possible .A lead off man stealing bases is not all that important. Over all team speed is.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) Anyone who thought there would be a suspension is delusional. A stick to the mouth is high sticking. Swinging a stick and connecting to the face is totally different. I didn't think there would be a suspension. After all a stick to the mouth can knock out a few teeth .What Boychuk did could paralyze someone . I realize there is plenty of opinions opposing mine including obviously the NHL's. I also realize when a teams top line is kicking your ass you become a target. That's part of the way hockey is played. It's quite a dilemma for the NHL to promote the skill of players while those very skills make you extremely vunerable to viciousness. -
Woo Dunn 2 run HR . Working his way towards .200

Total BS . To hit a superstar like that ,regardless of if its the Stanley Cup finals, is inexcusable especially since Toews has missed time with a concussion before this. If Keith gets suspended for a stick to the mouth why not Boychuk ? Hossa would 've missed significant time with a hit like that last year during the playoffs if it wasn't for the strike. I know Raffi Torres was a repeat offender but the NHL just showed the Cup finals take precedent over player safety and all that talk about not tolerating hits to the head is just lip service. -
Good start walk and single.

Who would ve thought De Aza would have twice as many HR's as Viciedo at this point and still be hitting leadoff.

Thanks for covering for me flavum. Go Sox.

Boychuk needs to be suspended for that hit on Toews if the NHL is at all serious about the no hits to the head policy. One day someones going to get their neck broke on hits like that. Just because Toews appears uninjured is no excuse not to do anything. NHL superstars need to be protected and the foot soldiers probably wouldn't mind either. -

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 06:56 PM) They trying banging the puck in too much. Get it to Kane Toews or Staalberg & let them use some speed to get it & set it up. They want to work down low. Make Boston go the full distance , no cheap shorthanded goals. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) Wow terrible PP. It's OK 2 more minutes off the clock . Hawks might go into their defensive shell game and look for more breakout passes. Sensing a Hawk breakaway soon. -

Sharp real good chance . Rask great save. Toews off the post earlier. -
Q pitched well. Crain gets the win . Reed gets the save. 2 in a row . Don't worry guys who want us to lose and get the higher draft pick. After we trade 4/5 guys off the 25 we won't win that much.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) You have to be pretty quick to steal that many bags regardless. Johnson will have to pick & choose more... speaking of Johnson, I assume we're talking about "Lance Johnson" jumps with him quite a bit, and Hawk still can't forget about him. Don't have to be the fastest guy in the league. Also, arm strength will increase, but in MLB you have a lot of teams that will still take catchers with weaker arms and/or accuracy problems, and as always, a catcher can only do what his pitcher will allow him to do. Stealing off the right pitchers, on the right pitches, in the right situations, off the right catchers, with the right players hitting behind you, you can really rack up some SB totals in the Majors. But the main part I like about the speedster is it adds an element we've been missing, and aside from Pods in '05, it's an element we've largely lacked for a very long time. Ideally you want to be able to win games in as many ways possible, and we've struggled mightily over the years to come up with any kind of balance, either too grindy or too mashy or too many K's or too right handed, etc. This discussion of Micah is like 2 years at least premature but if you feel like dreaming...... -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 10:54 PM) Remember his error-less streak in left field? Walking proof that errors are the worst way to judge defenders, especially outfielders I wouldn't exactly say the worst way since we have seen that fielding it once it hits the ground is something some outfielders have trouble doing consistently (De Aza). Sox have over run and kicked quite a few balls around the outfield this year. There's something to be said for not allowing extra bases.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 07:02 AM) Re: Iglesias, it seems like everyone wants to jump out there and proclaim that your typical defense-first SS isn't ever going to be able to hit enough to start in the Majors. Iglesias was seen by many as a huge overpayment by the Red Sox when he was signed (and Alexei's development out of Cuba probably had a lot to do with that) but now he looks at least useful. If he has enough to do what he's doing now then I don't know how you can say he couldn't hit enough to start, but at the same time, his MiLB career seems to indicate a player who isn't going to hit a lot of balls hard, maybe he makes contact but not really hard contact & doesn't square many balls up. Maybe that changes some? I'd take a shot. We deal Alexei & we can plug him in, see what we have. Red Sox selling high makes sense, but they'd only get Reed for him if they added a lot more to the package. In general though, I like acquiring these types of players, as I mentioned above. Clearly he belongs in the Major Leagues, and obviously he has some ability, and you're not going to have to gut your organization to pick him up & try him out. Many of Iglesias hits early this season with the Red Sox were of the weak variety where he has the speed to beat them out but more recently he's been hitting line drives . His glove is elite there's no doubt about that and can save many runs . If we believe our pitching can be very good, Iglesias would be incredibly valuable. The Red Sox are in a great position to sell high but really giving up Crain and possibly even Lindstrom for him would be a deal I'd do in a heartbeat.
