Who are our trading partners?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Do they need more than Rios? We have a lot of players. I know they've been dicking around with a couple of their better pitchers, bullpen to rotation, etc. I'm pretty against trading either Q or Santiago but a team with that much talent in the minor might be able to come up with a package of MLB-ready players to make me think about something pretty hefty, like a Q/Hector + Rios package. But that would take a LOT, because I absolutely love Q & have warmed up more to Hector who I already liked anyway. My original plan included Peavy and Rios to TX but Peavy got hurt shortly after my original proposal so depends how soon and how strong he comes back . I still think it could happen since TX. might be in desperation mode seeing it's WS window closing especially if Cruz gets suspended. Sox best chance to get the most talent is a blockbuster . -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) If do a deal with Pittsburgh they have Jose Tabata. Not really a "build around" kind of player but comes with cost certainty & would give us a "plug-in" type should we trade Rios. BTW holy s*** at Jason Grilli's numbers. My GOD. Who saw that coming? We had him once ya know. Damn KW, should have been psychic & held onto him. The Biogenesis scandal could really benefit the Sox. Unfortunately I think baseball does nothing before the trade deadline for fear of overshadowing the All-Star game. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) I might like something involving Cincy. They're definitely in full win now mode & their farm has been producing some nice players. For the right situation we should be open to packaging players, like an OF + relievers, a setup man + a closer, 2 relievers, etc. I'm looking more at TX. especially if Nelson Cruz gets suspended in the Biogenesis scandal, but so far nothing's come of it. -
Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) I'm going to have to watch the video/replays. Just going off the reaction of Farmer and DJ because I just got back to the US and haven't decided whether to depress myself with MLB.com for just one month before I go to Africa. At any rate, both DJ and Farmer were ALL OVER Dunn and Ramirez. Wonder why/how they both misread those plays? In the case of Quintana's throw, if the runner's caught between 2nd and 3rd, you absolutely have to get him running back towards 2B quickly or the runner from first can at least move up into scoring position on the play. If executed properly, that runner's always going to stay at 1B for fear of making two outs on one combined bad base-running play. Maybe Farmer and DJ are blind and should know you don't make the 3rd out of the inning at 3rd base and after all we're talking about Adam Dunn not some speed demon. Dunn gets gunned and the Sox lose that game. -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 04:13 AM) One of the Talking Heads at ESPN listed a few candidates to be traded, and he had Crain at the top of the list. This was during the Sunday night game, I believe. What can we get for him? Crain is having a phenomenal year but hard to say what we could get for him. I'd imagine he will be the most sought after Sox so we will be fielding offers from maybe 5-10 different teams. -

Take a look at the standings in both leagues between now and the trade deadline. Any team within 5 games of a wild card birth with good position player prospects or young major leaguers. TX., Cinn., Pitts., St.L, . Odds of trading with NL slightly higher than AL. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) Just last night, in the game.... 1) Gimenez making another horrible defensive play, when a decent throw and the runner's out by a country mile. 2) Alexei Ramirez botching a simple rundown play that SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRACTICED IN SPRING TRAINING 100 TIMES and allowing a runner to get from 1st to 2nd. There's just no excuse for that kind of mental mistake. Little Leaguers do it more proficiently. 3) Luckily Viciedo came through with the big triple...but, previously in that inning, Dunn should have gone from 1st to 3rd on the Konerko single up the middle. No excuses. He has to get to third. Then he would have scored to tie it up on the Gillaspie ball to the right side of the diamond. Every game. you can point out NUMEROUS errors like this. I wouldn't mind if they lost and were simply outplayed, it's just hard to stomach and mind-numbing how many mistakes can be made with no consequences. Did you see that PK single ? No way does Dunn go to 3rd on that even with 2 outs. Dunn had every right to believe the Stros SS would knock that ball down but somehow he didnt. It wasnt hit hard at all went through the pitchers legs and some how ,some way the SS didnt touch it even though he was there. Any kind of minimal dive and he smothers it. He bent over reaching to his left but missed it. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) Sale (imo) goes nowhere unless Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado or Buster Posey are coming back. I know the injury risk. But f*** it. You just gotta cross your fingers and hope for the best. Elite, cost-controlled, or in Sale's case, team-friendly contracts such as the one he just signed are by far the most valuable commodity in the new-modern age of baseball. Which is why I asked for way more than the original proposal. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) I have no idea what Quenneville's issues are with Stalberg ( effort , not enough hitting) but am glad he is back in there. The Hawks advantage is speed and playing Bollig was playing into Boston's hand. Having Handzus and Bollig playing key roles is suspect. Go with the guys who got you to this point and stick with them. The game 2 loss is squarely on Coach Q especially after 3 OT's and having fresh legs like Stalberg's available. Handzus 0 for 10 on face offs . -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) I prefer Stalberg over Bollig, but this is a lot of fuss over the last guy on the roster. This is like debating Casper Wells vs Tyler Greene. If it comes down to that guy, something went wrong. Just like in Game 2, the fact that it came down to Bollig was just the end result of giving up the game in the first period and getting outplayed down the stretch. I hope Stalberg kicks some ass and we can think about the bigger picture. Stalberg is far from the last guy on the roster as evidenced by his playing time during the regular season. Bollig, Carcillo, Mayers, Ben Smith all at the bottom. Quenneville just making some kind of point at the wrong time. But feel very lucky to be scoreless at the end of 1 for sure. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) IMO, I'd rather have John Scott than Carcillo. I can't stand that guy, both in his lack of skills, and his dirty style of play. I think Q took Bollig over Stalberg for a couple reasons. 1, Stalberg has had a bad playoffs. Not that he was doing a lot of things wrong, but he just wasn't doing much of anything. He was invisible. 2, Stalberg has been in Q's doghouse recently, and I think he was going to be the first to go if Q wanted size, and 3, Q wanted size for whatever reason. Carcillo brings a lot more to the table than Bollig plus he didnt have all that many penalties during the year and made a conscious effort to clean up his game. But that being said he's more of a pest like Bolland but not likely to see him at all so it's mute . Stalberg is a big guy so wanting just size didnt matter . Bollig had 0 hits during the 2nd game. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Very pleased to see Stalberg back and Bollig out. Hawks needs to play to their strengths. Hitting and being physical isn't their bread and butter. They need Stalberg and his speed to help offensive chances. The more I think about it the more confused I get about the Bollig decision knowing Q could have chosen Stalberg, Carcillo even Jamal Mayers . I'd rather have Carcillo or Mayers over Bollig just based on playoff experience alone. Bollig was one of very few Hawks with a is minus in the +/- ratings and led the team in PIM . Stalberg was tied for 5th in +/- . Even Carcillo would have been a better choice. He goes to the front of the net, is an energy guy , has playoff experience and one of those guys who can throw an opponent off his game with his rowdiness. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) Why does it matter if they deal with the Tigers? As long as it's not Sale, I don't think there's anyone we'd be trading to them that would haunt us for a long time. With that said, Tigers have very little in their farm system to trade us. Because despite all the gloom and doom , I'm hoping the Sox can do enough to compete again sooner rather than later and I'd rather not have them get better at our expense. That's pretty much the standard reason for not dealing within the division. I also think the Rangers will be desperately seeking more help than the Tigers need and a trade with the Rangers could be a blockbuster. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) One Rangers prospect that I'd be interested in is Rougned Odor. Very much blocked for the forseeable future. Doing rather well for a 19 year old in High-A. Luke Jackson is an interesting pitcher. Rangers also have some toolsy players in Brinson/Williams. Olt is also worth mentioning. The Rangers are falling. Oakland is rising. If Nelson Cruz gets suspended Rangers are the 1st team I look at as a trade partner, but I mentioned that long ago. If they see their window to win a World Series closing fast they have to be contacted as soon as the drug suspensions play out. I don't want the Sox dealing with Detroit at all. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Looking for first 4-game sweep at home in four years That surely will make up for losing the World Series in 4 straight .

I had to vote no. I know he has next to nothing to work with but I am really surprised he rarely pinch hits nor plays with the lineup at all. The team is bad so why go with the status quo ? Robin may think not pinch hitting can build a players confidence but the players sucking need to know their lack of production will not be tolerated and their jobs are in seriously jeopardy. Call it lack of accountability or country club atmosphere , however you want to describe it, but things need to be shook up and fear of demotion, benching, w/e has to be instilled. -
