  1. For anyone who wants to see the hi-lites of his outing http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws . There were smiles exchanged when Gomes got a hit off him. Brazilian vs Brazilian the only 2 in MLB.
  2. I think it's ridiculous and tired. We get it already .Hawks a parody of himself . Beating a dead horse unfunny.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) Seems to be the consensus. That being said, from the little I watched on Tuesday he didn't throw it very much at all. Maybe Coop thought the curve was his best pitch . Could be he throws the curve more often for strikes and they want him to be in the strike zone more often . A big breaking overhand curve is quite a weapon but also one of the hardest pitches for umps to judge and hitters to hit. What appears on TV to be a ball ( catcher dipping his glove to catch it) actually usually is in the zone at the knees. I'm sure we'll see more of his cutter in his next start and see if he can throw it for strikes consistently.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) Gotcha. K number was still ok so I take it the slider was fine? Change up was off too , was getting it up.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) Flowers is the gift that keeps on giving. Also, it's quite comical that De Aza is 2nd on this team in home runs. I really question players thought process at the plate sometimes. Looked like Flowers actually thought he was going to get a fastball he could pull there , he opened up so quick. For a catcher you'd think he'd know a breaking pitch was coming . Yay another homer given up by Axe.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Just another RHP that Hahn better have a better prepared lineup to handle next year. A core lineup with 6 right-handed hitters has very little chance against Masterson. I liked getting Garcia but I really was coveting Adams but the Cardinals aren't stupid.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) 30 innings, 2 runs allowed by Masterson this year vs the Sox. Add another Cy to the long list of Cy's.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) I need to see that cutter that is supposedly damn good. I was very impressed with his curve and his fastball is good enough but he needs a quality 3rd pitch to be a starter. I think he threw a change up once in a while. Not sure how often or if it was for strikes. He was hot lately and he was right around the strike zone the whole time. I thought he'd be a little bit more wild. We'll see how his control holds up in his next few starts.
  9. Congratulations on his MLB debut. Quite impressive.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) Very surprised with his curve. I thought everyone was talking about his cutter and I didn't really see that. Had some good location on his fastball a few times that I saw (didn't get to see his whole start). He had a few K's going up the ladder with the fastball too.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) (I'm bored) This feels like I'm in the NBA thread all over again... "Even if the Bulls ditch Deng and Boozer they still can't get a max contract." Instead now it's.. "Even though the Sox just saved 20M, have another 25M coming in, and have a boatload of money coming off the books we still can't sign Cano" It's a long shot that even becomes a FA but if he does I say why not? How long are they gonna waste this good pitching? I realize they're all young and will still be around when when they're done "rebuilding" but still, why not make that push? Robinson Cano is a guy that can turn this ball club from day 1. His left handed bat allows the Sox to bat Dunn further down in the lineup which is a plus. He's also gonna give the guy hitting in front of a lot more fastballs to look at. That said I'm going to tweak the lineup I originally posted putting Rios in the 3 hole batting in front of Cano. Why because I just stumbled upon a stat that said Rios hit .371 last year with a .671 slugging% vs fastballs. If Dayan hits like he has in July you're looking at a really good #5 hitter and it moves Dunn to the 6 spot keeping the middle of the lined balanced R/L/R/L. Then you keep it balanced with the wild card that is Avisail Garcia who has no pressure on him hitting in the 7th spot, if they get 15/15 out of the 7 hole they're doing things right. Gilaspie continues the L/R balance and he gives them another guy who can hit 15 HRs in the bottom of the order. The same thing with Phegley in the 9 spot. It's all a pipe dream though, I'm surprised it's not shared by others. I like your dream I even think its attainable without Cano but things would really have to break the right way but why not ? Maybe Morneau finds the magic again to fit your dream or some other free agent who won't break the bank and is undervalued . That's an even better dream .It's an even numbered year coming up and everyone wants us to be ready to compete again in the dreaded odd numbered year.
  12. I liked his presence on the mound. His curve reminded me of Jenks and Verlander. Handled a rough inning very well. I'm hoping we have something good .
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) How is that hyperbole? I've never ever heard someone say his contract is bad. Maybe they don't have the money for it now but that still doesn't make it a bad contract. I'm not saying the contract in itself is a bad one On an island it's a good contract. But we weren't on an island we were dealing with the trade market and the market makers said, we rather have a rental than take on that contract. So in that sense it was a bad contract. On one hand you could say it wasn't Hahn fault the perceived sellers market turned into a buyers market. On the other hand you could say the best GM's have to have a feeling for where the trade market was headed. I thought it was a buyers market from the beginning and was upset when the Cubs traded Garza to Tx. I wanted Peavy and Rios both to go there first but PV got hurt and Rios managed to do all he could to screw up his rep even more. The worse we can say about Hahn was he may have thought it was a sellers market. Other teams weren't trading young talent and only 4 young hitters were traded and Hahn got 2 of them (Garcia and Jacobs). So in that respect he did well.
  14. Avisail 's correct pronounciation of his first name doesn't exactly role off the tonge (Ah vee say eel ) so to me its just AV for PV.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Of course he could have pitched another inning. wouldn't it have been smart not to waste the 2nd to best reliever in a low leverage situation in the 6th? Axe may be out of fairy dust. But he doesn't have much short relief experience, and I'm not sure that the 10th inning is the time to give him his first taste. I blame Ventura but it could be Cooper running this operation for all I know. It was only short relief because he gave up a homer and the game ended. He was probably there to pitch as long as he could if it went that long.
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) One of Rienzo or Johnson will get the chance with Peavy gone. But I would like the other to get a shot too. Think they could be better then Danks but if they don't get that chance we will never know. Sale Quintana Santiago Rienzo Johnson Could be a really young good starting staff for years Prospect fever . You're lucky if one becomes good in his rookie year next year. Actually thinking they both becone quality starters is a dubious prospositon.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) I'm just going to blame Darryl Boston like it's 1988. He's kind of big to blame . I'd go with McEwing.
  18. That didn't take long. You gotta be bleepin' me !
  19. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) I'd have been ok with Paulie blasting one off Perez (Ha!). Now we can go ahead and lose (will Konerko ever homer again?!). If he listens to Procol Harum he will.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) This season would be funny if it wasn't so sad Truth
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:18 PM) Man I don't know. I hate the Indians more. It is a tough choice after all Indians have Swisher and Giambi , guys we don't like.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) You could even say.... Inepictitutde. I just died a little Visitivity.
  23. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) I was just being sarcastic. I'm not saying he's a great manager or a bad one. I've just seen enough "Ventura's an idiot" posts to make me want to scream. Oh I know you were. I've been one of the leading proponent of the I'v seen enough of Ventura to know I don't want him back .But I'd never call him an idiot . I think he's inflexible. I'm glad a decision worked out for once. In a bad season the whole team makes a lot of mistakes and that makes Robin look worse too. It's not all on him ,but still don't want him.
  24. perfect position to plunk Swish.
