You cant wait too long. I'm going under the impression that JR said he wants to compete ASAP so that would mean getting some quality this year. I don't don't believe JR as far as I can throw him but that's what I'm doing right now . You can't get everyone you want in 1 year but you can get some pieces.

I think you need to sign a guy like Bellinger . Yeah the contract maybe too long and too expensive but somehow the Sox need to re-establish that things are going to be different. Even if they won't be. 9 figures ,so over $100M ? Man I don't know about that. He got more than anyone thought he would last year and it turned up roses for him.But yeah it's possible 4 years $25M. Guess I'll have to take a look at the projections .

If Getz can't figure out that all middling vets do is waste a bunch of money and if he's depending on Grifol ,Salvy Perez and Whit Merrfield to raise the bar of competent play he's as clueless as the rest of them including the guy at the top of the totem pole, JR. They have so many holes I know some vets especially in the starting pitching staff have to be signed but as for the rest of the roster, I'd just hit the non tendered list and maybe make a play for Bellinger.

That's not marketing. it's saying goodbye and thanks for the memories. If there is any hope that they resign him for less they don't want to burn their bridges. It's just smart to do that. I don't think there's much of a chance they resign him but I suppose that depends on how long he remains unsigned and the market for him. He may be eating a lot of humble pie during his wait.

He WAS used in marketing campaigns. That's ancient history now. Why ? Because now his whole life is a mess. Won't be the 1st time someone marketed a good cool hip player whose world suddenly collapsed because he couldn't handle fame and it won't be the last. As a professional athlete your career is fleetingly short unless you keep your eyes on the brass ring. He isn't a movie star or musician alcoholic pill popper going through marriage after marriage and still able to get chance after chance because you go through rehab and straighten out everything. Young and old alike succumb to the pressures of fame. At this point I'd be happy to see him turn his life around. I certainly don't want to see him become a tragedy like we see so often in the music and movie industry. It was time to move on.

Why do people keep forgetting Lenyn Sosa ? Can't he play SS ? He'd hit more HR's than TA maybe field better too. I mean you can't really get worse production than TA gave the Sox last year. Or Sosa at 2nd base . Just because his initial try's at the bigs weren't instantly successful doesn't mean he's run out of chance. He's still one of the Sox best prospects. OK Sosa isn't in the top 30 prospects list anymore I suppose because he's had around 200 MLB AB's but as far as young players closest to making an impact next season he has to be close to the top of the list among position players. Ramos and Rodriquez got cups of coffee with the Sox but both have barely played at AAA. Montgomery has only had 131 AA and some AFL AB's. They aren't going to rush Montgomery. I'm not even sure he will start the year in AAA. Back to Birmingham seems more likely.

I don't like picking the low hanging fruit here, But you think the baby mama drama and flipping off fans means nothing and apparently by the response in "likes" you got others agree. But it couldn't be farther from the truth. If isolated, those things mean nothing IF he continued to play well. However all the drama, the fight, all coincided with terrible baseball. Tim's whole world has fallen apart and we're supposed to think all the drama didn't affect his play ? Everything has been a disaster with him. I said I'd decline his option a couple of weeks ago. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Let's pay a player falling apart at the seams $14M just to see if he can get a new head, a new body and suddenly there's a happily ever after ? Poor Tim is just misunderstood. You scolded Lipman for being in a Soxtalk world but you're in some fantasy world where TA is somehow marketable and worth $14M. It's preposterous. Like I said when I said to decline his option. Let's see what the rest of baseball is willing to pay him now. You'll get your answer then about how good and marketable he is. I think he'll be lucky to get 2 years $20M. I expect less than that. Feel free to save this for when he signs with someone else.

Jake Eder update...
You'd have to have a whole lot of variables in Eder's career to go right for what you just said to be true. You'd also have to think that neither Eder or Burger would make much of a difference on the Sox roster as currently constructed for a 2024-25 team. But you might be cheering your ass off in 2025 when Eder pitches some meaningless innings as a reliever in 2025 with a 5 ERA for another non playoff team. If we are judging value only based on years of control, then the Sox have just as many valuable guys going forward as every team. Well unless you think quality players also have some value.

Jake Eder update...
Time will tell if it was a bad trade for the Sox but you don't have to trade a Tatis Jr. or Semien to make a trade bad. If Burger ends up staying with the Marlins for a while and stays relatively healthy and produces at a 1 t0 3.5 WAR clip for a few years while Eder languishes in the minors and is eventually an MLB reliever, those 1st 2 to 3 years after the trade will be lopsided in the Marlins favor. If Eder is an eventual MLB reliever he won't ever catch up to the WAR production that Burger will produce with the Marlins. 30-35 HR's comes in awful handy. The Phillies got pretty far with a lineup full of guys who can hit the long ball the last 2 years. I don't know if saying Eder is close to being ready as an MLB starting pitcher should be considered "staying on top of things". It's more like blowing smoke up our asses.

Jake Eder update...
I wouldn't say everyone. Plenty on this board were thrilled with the trade and convinced Burger was who they thought he was which was a terrible fielder, injury prone, low average, low OBP guy. It was like all the time he had missed meant nothing and he had no chance to improve and his transition into the major leagues didnt need to take extra time because of the time missed. It was just all so simple to project him as a future failure. I'm not convinced Eder is condemned to a life as he is who we think he is either but he's behind the 8 ball just as much as Burger was only he's just getting started on his journey to be an effective big league pitcher and Burger was already showing big signs that he was ready to blossom into a quality MLB hitter.

Jake Eder update...
.806 is his OPS not slugging but I'm sure his slugging was pretty good also. Plus I don't think you can say the Marlins were the ones who improved his hitting with 100% accuracy. Part of my arguments about the trade was that Burger takes the responsibility for his own career. Also his hard hit rate was among the best in baseball . The fact that he was hitting in the low 200's didn't mesh with his hard hit rate. Usually the harder you hit the ball the better you BABIP is. His showing as a hitter in Miami might have been some percent of changes he was already working on or things the Marlins told him and worked with him on. But with the Marlins he was good from the get go. That would make the Marlins coaches some kind of miracles workers to suggest something that Jake decided to use and to have to work right away. That's not usually how things work.

The whole Bagent thing has really got me watching a lot of podcasts now on youtube. This is the best one yet. I had heard him speak a few times before but this one impressed me the most. He's smart and self motivated, never gets ahead of himself , works on the task at hand. Very impressive. Everything you would want in a young athlete or a person for that matter.

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
Re your last sentence, I tend to think that's true with JR still in charger. However. I'm going to wait to see what the 1st major player acquisition/decision the Sox make under Getz. He should know the 1st thing he does will set a tone . If it has anything to do with Perez or Merrifield then Getz will be perceived as just as incompetent as the departing bone heads. That would be truly a kick in the nuts. He's already sitting in that boat since he didn't fire Grifol. I don't believe JR when he talked about Getz having autonomy. It's laughable actually, but Grifol had to go and the fact that he isn't has Getz in our crosshairs. Astound me Getz. Do something besides waste money on declining vets. Stick to that getting younger and more athletic statement. My body of work posting has wanted that for the last few off seasons and my track record of picking young players outside the organization has been pretty good.

The International Signing Thread
Ok a quick check of Google found this from a week ago. https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/mlb-commissioners-office-declares-7-cuban-players-as-international-free-agents The MLB Commissioner's Office has declared seven Cuban players as international free agents, Francys Romero reported Tuesday. Right-handed pitcher Marlon Vega, right-handed pitcher Edelvis Pérez, outfielder Jordan Sánchez, right-handed pitcher Emmanuel Chapman, outfielder Roislandi Bell, outfielder Yoandri Guibert and right-handed pitcher Kevin Mejía are the players who will try to sign with MLB clubs this offseason.

Anyone following up on Marlon Vega ? Seems very talented, Cuban, same agent as Chapelli and he kind of looks like Tiger Woods in that picture.

MLB Trade Rumors Projected 2024 Arbitration Salaries
Yea Istill dont understand why they took Thompson in the trade rather than some flyer on a guy in the DSL. I'm not sure they non tender him if they got him to be a viable 4th OF . But that was under the Hahn regime so perhaps he will be non tendered under Getz.

They Gone - lots of coaching changes
We all remember the Colas and Romy Gonzalez sessions all summer with Mike Tosar. That did not turn out well. https://theathletic.com/4254269/2023/02/27/white-sox-oscar-colas-romy-gonzalez/ Colas was just downright terrible hitting and fielding. He was either incredibly over rated for his 1 year in the minors, which frankly was pretty impressive, but woefully under prepared to face MLB pitching.

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
I Buy out TA. If he can get $14M or a 3 year contract @$45M+ let him try. Forget about Merrifield and put in Lenyn Sosa either at SS or 2B that saves you a lot, as would trading away Eloy . If Soler doesn't resign with Marlins , sign him for some power at DH. Try your hand at some other LH hitters if anyone bites on Eloy. If you sign 1 big position player make it Bellinger. He should be an interesting follow this off season. Michael A .Taylor isn't a bad option although his OBP sucks. Nice speed and defense, decent pop. I'm not even going to try on SP and RP accept to say if you open up some payroll space and dependent on how much JR decides he's going to spend you could sign one of the better starting pitches in some fantasy scenario that involves signing with an organization like the White Sox. I still have to laugh looking at Andrew Benintendi. Hell Duvall although older would have given you more than Benintendi had you just offered him 2 years. He can't stay healthy but when he's on the field he produces. He's available again .

They Gone - lots of coaching changes
No need for me to defend myself because you are right. However I guess it's all how you interpret what I meant by signs of life. Sometimes they looked good , sometimes bad. I think a 5 ERA would indicate that. Giolito looked just as bad if not worse after he was traded. Basically after they traded all the pitching I didnt expect much but those guys still might be in consideration for next year be it MLB or minor league contracts since the starting pitching depth is abysmal and I can't imagine them signing an above average FA starting pitcher. I'm guessing Touki will be back since he's eligible for arbitration.
