  1. I think he's bailing out. It's not painfully obvious but he's terrible on pitches in the strike zone on the outer edge . Plus he doesn't have much of a stride I really dislike not having a stride be part of your timing and power mechanism. Has to be a transfer of weight from the back side to the front side.
  2. That's never how it's been though. Sun gets in your eyes or lights, bad hop, tricky deflections off side walls then back wall on balls hard hit in corners , no error. Letting a medium one hop get by you , you're either supposed to glove it or at least get your body in front of it. I think even Mullins would admit he misplayed it.
  3. Are you talking about the Anderson single that they gave the 2 base error to Mullins ? To me that's clearly an error. It was a single, he didn't dive and miss it which you can't give an error on. He just played a single into 3 bases . Clearly a 2 base error. If that's not what you are talking about ...nevermind !
  4. I might be right about finishing under 74 wins comment about 62-68 wins just from extrapolating how bad the Sox under performed Zips projections in the past.
  5. It may have more to do with teams who might consider claiming someone getting a clearer picture of there chances at making the playoffs and the health of their current roster. So since a claimed player needs to be claimed by Sept 1st in order to be eligible for the playoffs being put on waivers a week or so prior to that date gives any claiming team a chance to pay a potential playoff roster player as little as possible while also assessing the most recent performance of said player.
  6. I'd been seeing the numbers at Birmingham and wondering where he ranked. Thanks for letting me know where it was . From the beginning of the year all his highlights had him #17. From his highlights on 7/25, 7/29, 8/9 and 8/17 his ranking was 16, 19, 20 and 23 so the recent trades moved him down. Right now he only has 87 AB but he has been killing it for AA but before that his numbers in A+ were not outstanding. He didn't hit very well at all in June in Winston-Salem so my theory that he found something before he was promoted doesn't fly. I love his swing. He has a natural swing that when he swings just a little late it will still be for power to RF so the swing plane is good. Reminds me of Mike Pizza's swing for lack of a more up to date example . Evaluators seem to need to be impressed by something early on like the scouting ranking on his abilities before he became a professional or command of the strike zone, a great glove , great speed . He has none of those things .From the beginning his scouting grade was a 40. His walk rate has been consistently low the last 2 years so when you move up where pitchers have better stuff with more movement he can be exploited. I noticed he was listed at 6'2 180 but by looking at him that seems off. If he's 6'2" he's more than 180. He solid with a thick lower half so I'm guessing he's closer to 6' or more than 180. His Dad Wilton played MLB and he is a cousin to the Tatis's so good bloodlines. Based on that and what @Timmy Usaid about his defense I think that explains his ranking . If he finishes AA the last couple of weeks as strong as he's hitting now you're likely to see him in the top 15 rankings of the Sox at the beginning of next year. But there can't be any room for recency bias in rankings so despite how well he's done in Birmingham we have to see more consistency in his hitting ability into next year.
  7. Or they may be trying to save $5.5M
  8. No idea why Colas would throw to 3rd there. Just throw the ball to 2nd base. He let the trailing runner get to second and both runners score on a soft single. Great diving catch by Robert to get the 1st out.
  9. I don't think It's a foregone conclusion that KW engineered the trade. All we heard is she called KW because they were old buddies. If one got his way over the other (KW or Hahn), or they both agreed on the trade ,we may never know. They needed to get more for Burger. A older SP at AA in his 1st season after his TJ surgery without a track record of any consistence excellence is way too risky . I know Burger had risks too but 25 HR's added to a lineup that needed more hitting during a playoff push meant something to the Marlins. Eder meant nothing to them until he could build some innings and endurance.
  10. As big of a Burger fan that I am I didnt bash the trade but now I've had a chance to delve deeper in a few things. I'm mostly concerned that he's kind of far away from being a SP. He only pitched 92.1 innings in 3 years in college. He only pitched 71 innings in 2021 and that was enough to have TJ surgery. So far this years he's pitched 51.2 innings and can't get anyone out since the trade. He's a long way off from going 150 innings. Considering he'll be 25 Oct. 9th I'm thinking he's almost in the same boat as Crochet except for having more control of Eder. But Crochet is 8 months younger. But both seem like longshots to ever become a starting pitcher . If that's the case for Eder the trade is looking worse every day. Unfortunately Eder looks like a future AAAA relief pitcher. He's going to need decent numbers next year and go over 100 IP but that's not close to a ML caliber starting pitcher where you should be able to go 130 IP minimum to stay in the rotation.
  11. 1st year back after TJ surgery . Career high in innings pitched this year. Only his 2nd professional season. New organization. Could be hitting a wall but he has only pitched 52 innings this year. 2nd year after TJ surgery is usually more indicative. Sucks that he's been so bad and I hope nothing is physically wrong, He's never gone beyond 5.2 IP and that was in his last start before the trade. We'll get a clearer picture next year. For all those pleased with the trade maybe they should have looked at his innings pitched totals in college and the one year in AA. He seemed a couple years away from being able to pitch 150 innings. If he can't go 100 IP next year as a starting pitcher with decent numbers you may be looking at a relief pitcher.
  12. Wolkow has played since his promotion to Kanny ?
  13. I 'd say it's a lot more his eye and that minor league pitchers have a hard time throwing strikes consistently . They also can't afford to pitch around too many guys. You only advance if you get guys out.
  14. I like wins that Sosa has a big part in. That 3 run RH bomb by Moncada was a rarity.
  15. Impressive backhanded barehanded catch by the fan !
  16. That was a good inning.
  17. You clicked the link I gave ? I thought I was blocked when whoever 1st gave the link put it up but I found a way around it just by scrolling and finding the down arrow I mentioned.. I've never subscribed to The Athletic . There may be only a certain amount of times per month you can view content for free. Once you surpass it it's unviewable until the next month or however they do it.
  18. Sure if you want Moore to write better scouting reports for Christian players because he would rather they be drafted ahead of anyone else. Can he still be objective when he has religious beliefs that may cause him to be biased ? This is why no one wants him in any capacity. Team chaplain maybe if they have such things. More of a college thing.
  19. It may seem simple to you but and to me the direction the Sox have to take. Maybe you should talk to @Lip Man 1 who is more a historian on how often Jerry has said he doesn't like to pay for youth. I just don't think you've been paying attention for the last 40 years. JR will not evolve. I find it hard to believe that someone under him has not suggested investing in youth and presented it in a way you suggest. In the Sox case there is only one person you would need to convince and that's JR. There is zero evidence to date that he doesn't think he knows best. Maybe read this too https://theathletic.com/4800567/2023/08/23/chicago-white-sox-jerry-reinsdorf-shakeup/ This is by Keith Law. It was presented as not being behind a paywall. I was able to read it but many complained it was behind a paywall. But when the screen comes up to block it there is a small down arrow to move the screen out of the way.
  20. Yea giving JR way too much credit here. How much more proof do you need that JR doesn't care about the farm system? How many times do you need to see the Sox trade Int'l money ? It happened like 6 times already. Do they have a 2nd DSL team ? Have they ever developed a Dominican star player despite the DR being a hotbed of baseball talent for the whole time JR has been the owner ? I mean there is stuff out there that JR doesn't give a rats ass about developing youth. When he had the chance he spent on Robert and an older Abreu and now it's like Cuban and Venezuela are their go to countries. Colas was a prime example of another older Cuban who almost had to produce right away and he did for 1 year in the minors but was woefully unprepared for MLB. Have the Sox recently developed any pitchers ? Has Vaughn reached his potential, how about Moncada and Eloy ? They can't draft, develop , keep anyone healthy and have sucked in trades and Free Agency. The time to build the infrastructure was before the rebuild and it's never happened in 40 years of ownership and now he's going to do it ? The 2 are not mutually exclusive. JR and Hahn can both suck. If JR cared about spending the money according to anyone else's wishes besides his own he'd hire Click or someone from a winning organization and let them rebuild the infrastructure and get rid of the fat absorbing paychecks from years of getting too comfortable in their positions.
  21. Yeah a sleeping giant if you want job security but that can't happen because JR is 87 .He isn't all of a sudden going to say "Yeah I agree we're understaffed and behind the times in player development and I'll add another DSL team and stop trading Int'l money and let's spend some FA money on actual superstars. JR may outspend the rest of the division on player payroll but way too many other teams are building from the ground up. The Orioles are currently better than any Sox team during the Championship window. All the Reds need is some pitching now. TB, the Braves and Houston made the most of their infrastructure but their systems have taken some hits lately. The Cubs bounced back pretty quickly and a top farm to boot. Even the Pirates are showing some life with their prospects. The Sox basically are a lame duck franchise right now.
  22. That's part of the plan for selling and relocating. Sox fans won't support the team. Attendance will suck until they sell. No idea how much that would affect the bottom line to a buyer. JR and Co. are already way ahead.
  23. Scott Servais really wants that 8th win in a row. Bringing in the 7th pitcher to negate the Sox potent lineup.
