  1. Sox will get a new owner once JR passes but until then I don't know if anyone in the organization has the guts to tell JR that things can be done differently and he can still make money. That would mean telling him they half assed the rebuild by not spending on the people and products needed to give the young talent the best chance to flourish. JR can't help but stick his nose into everything instead of hiring the right people to do their jobs. You could use Tampa Bay as a model to strive for constantly ridding themselves of productive MLB talent to keep the cheap young talent flowing into the system. Baltimore has more talent on its roster and in the minors than the Sox ever did. Once the Sox graduated Vaughn they had nothing left and Vaughn still hasn't become anything. Madrigal became nothing. Collins , Fulmer ...nothing. Tatis and Semien traded. Eloy, Moncada, Robert , Kopech, Crochet can't stay healthy. Keuchel , Lynn, Grandal had a few good years but were not long term answers at the ages they were acquired. They were middling price pieces as were the parade of relief pitchers Hendricks, Kelly , Graveman, Kimbrel along with Benintendi ,Clevinger and Pollock. Harrison. Eaton's and Andrus' 2nd times through. Am I missing any of the middling ,aged , under developed , talentless or infirm misfits judged to be core or final pieces to the " talk to me at the parade" puzzle ? Did the Sox get any lasting pieces out of the Intl. money JR traded away ? I can barely stomach writing this and it could be soooo much longer if you really wanted to get into more than the last 5-10 years.
  2. There's also the fact it's a great sellers market. Despite not even being close to the pitcher he was last year it might be best to take advantage of the current market conditions and get some high end talent . I just hope it's extremely high end talent, young for their level having a great season talent. Maybe in a few years when there's a new owner who cares about really producing a sustainable pipeline of young talent those things you mentioned won't matter. But in the meantime pretend you are Tampa Bay. What would they do ? Sellers market, he's healthy now , got good peripherals. Drive a hard bargain for him but please concentrate on well rounded , players with speed and defense already a part of their arsenals. These good minor league systems have shown that swings can be reworked. Read up on how the Dodgers do it with Justin Turner, Muncy ,Will Smith James Outman.
  3. By the time he's able to throw again this year the season will be nearly over. He got hurt again on his current rehab assignment if I'm interpreting the tweet and article combined correctly. I have no idea how he was rehabbing. Was it preparing to return to the pen or just arm strengthening in general just to be able to pitch an inning or so every 5th day. He seems very far away from doing very much next year. No one should think he'll be able to be much help to the Sox in 2024. With some off season program to strengthen and condition without any setbacks he should get some starts next year at some level. If the setbacks keep piling up though he may have to realize his arm was not meant to pitch in any capacity. Good luck Garrett !
  4. I agree. Let the kid try to fulfill a dream . It's not up to anyone but him to find his path.
  5. I probably can speak for many Sox fans who still enjoy watching great players wearing a White Sox uniform win or lose. While winning is always good trading great players for prospects does not guarantee winning in the future so what's really the point ? We saw how once the Sox started winning how bad they were at finishing it off. Just keep him and Cease they are your best pitcher and position players. Allow the fans to enjoy them. Maybe once the Sox have an owner who knows how cultivate a productive minor league system and knows how to excite the fan base with the pursuit of superstars we can start to have real hope again. Until then, since I'll still be watching White Sox baseball I'll selfishly want to watch good/ great players rather than get my hopes up waiting for minor leaguers to become productive MLB players.
  6. You must have lurked for awhile to be familiar with Ron?
  7. I did forget the possibility that there could be legit trade talks about Eloy. There is a scarcity of quality bats on the market . I don't know if the Sox would trade him but it is possible with the right offer. I'd certainly consider it.
  8. Probably figured he was hitting too good to play. Probably just resting his groin to make sure he doesn't get it torn from his body. He might end up PH today.
  9. Looks like a loss for sure. But they still have to play the game to confirm it.
  10. A distant number 2 . JR is always #1 far and away.
  11. I love wins for my favorite team as much as anyone. That's why I still pay attention to them. But I have no desire to blame anyone in the house that was poorly designed by the architects.
  12. They'll soon revert to their true selves. They are at home and Cleveland can't hit a lick. Continuing to search for a scapegoat about clubhouse attitude as a reason for under performance wouldn't exactly say much about the mental toughness of the players. Losses pile up over years because of incompetent leadership off the field. Reinsdorf's Reign has shown this again and again. He is the one constant in 40 years of wandering in the desert with an occasional stop at an oasis that quickly dry's up.
  13. I'm not blaming the cheap labor but I am blaming those in charge who don't recognize that you spend a lot less once you have a high functioning system with the right people in place to see that it's applied to every minor leaguer in the system. Just last year in Int'l FA is a prime example. The Sox didnt spend $1.5M of their allotted funds. Maybe they still can. Now I'm sure they could've spent it on a bunch of 16/17 yr olds who went to other organizations or got only one more guy with an increased offer. I know it's a corrupt system and all so that's JR's excuse not to pay for youth. But the Sox also have no presence in Japan or Korea also for the higher priced established veterans of those leagues. In the days of unlimited spending the Sox got Abreu and Robert and other teams also handed out big contracts. The owners soon realized they were spending too much and came up with new rules to stop themselves from being reckless. Now they want to limit themselves further by turning Itn'l Free agency into a draft. Somewhere around half of baseball has 2 DSL teams to make sure those taken in Int'l FA have a place to play as often as possible since those picks every years can get into the 20's. The Sox have one DSL team. They are small time in most aspects of making sure youth gets every chance imaginable to flourish.
  14. Ever since his wife fixed him he's been bombs away and taking strolls.
  15. Ok a bit of sarcasm here . It's not easy judging and developing talent is hard. However the Sox have a long standing practice of owners who can't figure it out. If there are restrictions on MLB payroll and MLB contracts then its imperative to have a system in place that guarantees the development of youth, who according to the rules set up by MLB is cheap labor , then you must ensure that the cheap labor is given every chance to reach its potential.
  16. Required reading on the subject though 5 years old now. Future Value: The Battle for Baseball's Soul and How Teams Will Find the Next Superstar by Eric Longenhagen (Author), Kiley McDaniel (Author), Keith Law (Foreword) . An unprecedented look inside the world of baseball scouting and evaluation from Fangraphs' lead prospect analysts For the modern major league team, player evaluation is a complex, multi-pronged, high-tech pursuit. But far from becoming obsolete in this environment—as Michael Lewis' Moneyball once forecast—the role of the scout in today's game has evolved and even expanded. Rather than being the antithesis of a data-driven approach, scouting now represents an essential analytical component in a team's arsenal. Future Value is a thorough dive into the world of the contemporary scout—a world with its own language, methods, metrics, and madness. From rural high schools to elite amateur showcases, from the back fields of spring training to major league draft rooms, FanGraphs' Eric Longenhagen and Kiley McDaniel break down the key systems and techniques used to assess talent. It's a process that has moved beyond the quintessential stopwatches and radar guns to include statistical models, countless measurable indicators, and a broader international reach. Practical and probing, discussing wide-ranging topics from tool grades to front office politics, this is an illuminating exploration of how to watch baseball and see the future.
  17. These Kenny or Hahn posts are extremely myopic. Lots of people involved in this stuff and many of them are specialists on minor league players whether its Getz, Haber, Kenny Williams , Jr, Mike Shirley and various scouts for the areas once names starting being bandied about. IDC who facilitated it as long as the others involved are competent . But it's the Sox. They don't exactly roll with cream of the crop evaluators.
  18. JR has had 40 years to build the infrastructure. Hahn hasn't been the GM for 40 years. JR allocates the money and it's well know he doesn't like to spend on youth. Look at how he treats the Int'l draft. How many DR success stories have the Sox had under with JR in charge despite the vast amount of great DR players for many many of those 40 years. If you want to give JR credit because he gave Hahn $185M to spend on the 25 man roster go right ahead but you cannot ignore the well documented facts that JR doesn't like to invest in potential. Hahn is JR's puppet , he does as he is told, not the other way around. He won't give pitchers long contracts. Al he allows Hahn to do is spend most of the money on the 25 man roster. I don't think you are looking at the big picture or have forgotten how the good teams who know how to develop talent have invested heavily in the Int'l draft while JR trades that money away or spent it in lumps sums like with Abreu and Robert. But the true pipeline of talent, those $1M or less 16 yr olds who later blossom into great players, not only are they not investing in them but they don't have the infrastucture in place to develop them and that has been on JR for his entire tenure. If Tampa Bay can compete on a small budget in a terrible park with bad attendance year after year in the same division with the high spending Yankees and Red Sox, because they invest in potential why can't the Sox ever do it that way? It's mainly because JR is penny wise and pound foolish. All Hahn does is carry out his wishes and spends $10M here and $20M there thinking that the cheapest way to win is buying relief pitching and older washed up guys who soon retire or their performance goes south after joining the Sox. If you pay mediocre prices you get mediocre or worse returns . Hahn certainly sucks at his job but you tell me how often over the years have the Sox actually poached top scouts, data analysts and biometric anaylsts and all the machines and software or executives who were important cogs in developing pipelines of talent ? Marco Paddy isn't even allowed to do his job properly. Whose vote counted the most in hiring LaRussa ? Do you actually think JR doesn't have his hands on every aspect of spending that the Sox do? It's naive to think otherwise.
  19. They turn players into better players hitting and pitching . They revamped Outmans whole swing and pretty much do the same to get more velo. We'd need more than just their coaches including scouts and their whole development system and people in whatever things they used , super slo mo cameras, biometrics etc. That's where JR just sucks.
  20. Speaking of catchers. I'm looking at Yeminator on instagram live now lol
  21. An actual win breaks the 6 game losing streak after 38.5 % of the innings pitched this year for the Sox was traded so an unlikely shutout happens. Toussaint , Banks and Santos combine for the blanking of the now .500 Guardians. Burger, Robert HR's. Cola RBI single. 3-0.
  22. Chuck and Ryan McGuffey talk about the trade. Highlights: Vaughn looked at Burger and said Lee had power like him. Chuck talked to a minor league scout, probably one of the Sox ,so take this with a massive grain of salt. He said that Cuero and Lee both could be All Star catchers. But interesting how he was pretty high on both of them. My own opinion is that the returns were decent for guys who were pretty worthless. I normally think its not a great idea to target catchers so smart organization really don't care much about giving them up. Hard to find good defensive catchers who can hit and they take much longer to find offense with the amount of time it takes to learn defense. That being said the whole Sox catching situation is bleak. Might see both Lee and Hackenburg next year along with Perez. That's a lot of youth back there. But it will be competitive at least.
  23. I don't want to be that guy but it would be hard to fathom shutting Cleveland out let alone actually winning this game with the muck we have in the BP.
