Santos and Middleton some great pitching. Time to get back in it so the late inning relivers can blow it. Please don't let Hendriks blow a save. Please Please. We need a triumphant return.

I've made a couple of posts about him not being able to combine the good walk rate with good hitting.

Moncada was the only one of our 3 hitters that inning to actually take a called strike. Make the ptcher throws balls in the zone ! I know Romy hit a HR on a 1st pitch fastball but at least that ball was in the zone.

Bad throw but also bad scoop Double badness. I won't be giving Sheets any excuses on that one.

If t was that easy 2 put up 2 starts of 0 runs against the Central the Royals ansd Guards would be even worse then they are. Kopech is a baby in terms of his MLB starting pitching experience. It's just how it goes for guys who aren't finshed products yet.

I can't really blame sheets. A RH 1st baseman doesnt have to reach across his body to catch that like Sheets had to since he's LH. Also running hard right towards the dugout means you can't exactly go all out for it. He had to mince his steps at the end and just couldnt reach it.

AT DH you had your choice of Burger, Grandal or Vaughn . And they picked the 3 best choice against a RHP. That 1st inning was why you need a run producer like Burger in there at home.

You have to put him back out there and hope he settles down and gives you 4-5 innings. Can't burn the pen in the 1st game of a home stand. Despite how this game has started you still need to win more than you lose at home.

Fire Rick Hahn
A lot of people here wanted Adam Duvall . So did I .He signed a 1 yr deal with the Red Sox for $7M. He started off scalding hot and put up 1.0 fWAR in just 37 PA. Then he hurt his wrist diving for a ball in CF April 10th and is now on the 60 DL . I also wanted Colas to get his shot. It was time. You just can't let a guy approaching 25 yrs old who put up great stats in his very 1st season in the US with a huge hole in RF not get a chance. It didnt work out but he's working on his game in Charlotte trying to be more selective but not having the hitting success we've seen. He is taking more walks and thats a good sign . But you have to still be able to hit while you take walks . That seems to be Yoans problem this year. His walk rate disappeared but his hitting has recovered ( his LH hitting , not his RH hitting). Putting the 2 together isn't easy, even for a veteran like Yoan. It must be very hard for Colas and I don't know what those hitting coaches were trying to do with him but it certainly hasn't helped. He just wasn't making any hard contact. Maybe his lack of baseball playing while trying to get out of Japan and finally getting to play last year hurt him too. Maybe not in the minors but against experienced MLB pitching his inexperience was apparent.

How the hell can Burger not be in the lineup ? The guy has massive Home/road splits. Him and Robert only carried the team is their last home stand to get the Sox to within 5.5 games of 1st. Him and Robert sucking on the recent road trip is at least one reason why the Sox lost. Actually Robert started to cool off the last home stand but his slugging and OPS are much better at home. But sure lets leave the guy with the .833 Slugging and 1.208 OPS on the bench at home.

I thought the pitch Burger lined out on might've been a strike. I thought it might be a little inside but I think it was kind of a hanger and those can be hit for HR's . Burger hit it well but right at the LFer. But not one of them took a called strike when he wasn't throwing pitches in the zone. If you don't put any pressure on the pitcher to throw strikes he'll continue to not throw strikes and sometimes they are just wild. We never will know if he was wild. For all we know he would've loaded the bases with 2 straight walks or forced to throw something other than that great curveball.

Scripts need a rewrite after only 6 pitches to get 3 outs. Why burn 2 relievers instead of just one and why bring in the non closer ?

My thoughts are you see that pitcher warming up in the bullpen. Now I don't know whats the percentage of swings on pitches out of the zone for him. I'm just guessing that he gets a lot of them. A well prepared team with a good video analysis department should have those kinds of reports on every pitcher and have that info readily available at the start of a series. That info should be available to every player and brought up by coaches before the inning starts . Then it's up to the player to use that info . I have no idea how good the Sox video analysis department is nor how often that info is reinforced upon entry into a game by opposing pitchers. Hitting is very hard and smart hitters , smart coaches and a good infrastructure behind the scenes all mean a lot. It's a team game in a lot more ways than just the manager.

There wasn't a strike thrown in the zone that until the pitch that Burger hit on the line out to LF for the 3rd out . Everyone wants to be the hero and move the runner along. It's like to hell with everything we know about this pitcher. Even after the Vaughn AB is there a coach who watches the game stream that can start screaming "He hasn't thrown a pitch in the zone yet. Make him throw you a strike before you start swinging the bat ! " I just want to be fair to Grandal who was in the on deck circle and may not know that every pitch wasn't in the zone unless informed of it and told specifically don't swing the bat until you get a called strike 1. That's why teams have coaches . I just wonder if other teams have someone watching the game on TV close enough to the dugout to relay stuff like that to another coach. No one should be afraid to pass along useful information. I don't think it's illegal to watch the game on TV and make observations and relay those observations, as long as you arent stealing signs.

Eh I don't know how meaningless other games are. You're in a division of under .500 teams . Every time you win there's a better than 50/50 chance a couple of teams above you in the standings are going to lose. Win more games than everyone else in your division and you win the division. I do agree that division games are more important because you control your fate. You beat them you auto gain a game on them. But like I said when you win any non division game you're going to gain ground on someone too. But you also control your own fate by just winning more games period .

No MLB team has room for Hamilton he's only had 22 AB since the start of the 2022 season and has 1 hit. Great guy, great fielder, cheerleader and runner but if you can't hit there's not a place for you as a bench piece. Coach, maybe when he retires when teams finally stop giving him the prorated MLB minimum $720K. I'd hang around too if I could get 200K for a couple months work which is more like fun for him.

Well you did say hit .650. I'm sure you meant OPS but Caulfield answered it like you meant batting average because you phrased it like batting average. If rosters were expanded to 27 Billy Hamilton might have a place on a few MLB teams. 26 man rosters no one wanted him. He seems to be a great guy in the club house, very fast, great base runner, very solid defender. Probably in the future the Sox will employ him. But it's not really trolling to suggest Billy Hamilton will hit. 065 when he's hitting .045 for his only 22 AB in the majors covering 2022 and 2023. Love him all you want to but he has no place on a quality team nor a rebuilding team except as a coach. The fact that he's employed as a player on the Sox pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the Sox lack of depth.
