  1. Timmy probably yelling to Robert on that pop up. Squeeze it baby Squeeze it.
  2. Like most people who think he's minor league depth I have a pretty good idea that his value isn't that high. It could get much higher if he is the main DH against RHP and gets 25-30 HRs and OPS is .850+ . Higher than that if he can play OF for 25+ games no worse than Schwarber or Castellanos even if it's in RF . LF is preferable for OF'ers of his ilk but we have Vaughn and Eloy manning the corners .
  3. Stick to the next day thinking. I get the favorable matchups take somewhat but not really. The Sox as a team were bumslayers so lots of guys got favorable matchups including Vaughn yet he still had tons of trouble against right handed bums except for that one stretch of a month or so. Sheets slugged .556 and .900 OPS against righties in 179 PA which was enough to be ineligible for Rookie status this year but not enough to get any serious ROY votes. I get that Vaughn will hit RHP much better than Gavin will ever hit LHP and will improve immensely against RHP so Vaughn will always be a better , more complete player. BUt I still think Gavin deserve a shot to prove his worth almost as much as Vaughn has to prove his worth against RHP.
  4. The real perfect post. Even The Athletic didn't mention the curious cases of Rodon and Kimbrel . Nor did they say anything about the giant hole left from losing your nearly 5 WAR pitcher. Also there is the context that the Sox were bumslayers where even the loses of Eloy and Robert really didn't matter during the season, their woeful road record , their middling 2nd half of the season , the loss of Rodon and the reflection of all that in the playoffs. Throw all that together with they are supposed to be World Series contenders who aren't any better than they were last year when they were really pretenders.
  5. Realistically the only 2 from the list that has a chance to be on the 28 are Sousa and Adolfo and Adolfo's spot is precariously with being out of options, Haseley trade and Vaughn coming back probably some time in April. Sousa makes it if he doesn't implode and has an even better chance if Kimbrel is traded before the start of the season. Kopech still isn't ready and Kelly is hurt. Freeman was sent down already.
  6. Well I voted Cespedes just for kicks and I agree Romy is one of the best candidates. Unless he is traded I can see the bullpen being a sore spot if Kimbrel is on the team and can't handle any other inning but the 9th. Then there is Kelly who I vote as most likely to spend a lot of time injured. Then that might translate into Crochet not getting stretched out. However if the Crochet plan is still in effect he'll be pitching middle innings and Sousa is the guy who most resembles Crochet. I'm probably putting way too much stock into how he's done in his 3 appearances this spring but damn he's looked impressive . He might become a go to option when facing innings with 2 lefties coming up.
  7. I think we are voting for the most valuable White Sox Rookie not a rookie savior. If Kimbrel ever gets the boot and Sousa gets a chance he could vault himself ahead of Ruiz. If you look at Ruiz on the surface he did a credible job but in late inning situations was not a good option. Sousa has a nice slider and spots his fastball pretty well.
  8. Really ? I too have an android TV .Cheap TCL model but I can get Apple TV on mine. I watch all my iTunes movies on it. As a matter of fact whenever I use a movie code now that gives me a choice of Vudu/Fandango or Apple I pick Apple because you can family share with Apple and not with Vudu so my daughter in Petaluma can watch it. I did go through some trials and errors with it but I got all the kinks worked out.
  9. I voted Cespedes just for fun but realistically I'd say Sousa, Romy, Burger have the 3 best chances. I'd love it to be Adolfo but even if he makes the 28 once it goes back to 26 he's probably gone.
  10. March 29: Optioned RHP Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned LHPs Tanner Banks, Wes Benjamin, Brandon Finnegan and Andrew Perez, RHPs Caleb Freeman, Tyler Johnson and Yacksel Ríos and OF Yoelqui Céspedes to Minor League camp
  11. lol Like you never make Captain Obvious posts while everyone clings to your skirt looking for Insider stuff.
  12. I made a post just yesterday that I thought 3 or 4 40 man roster changes could still be coming and Rutherford was among the 10 or so names I listed.
  13. I'm the 1st guy to jump on management but I try to leave the players alone. I stay out of game threads usually during the season because they are a mess of over reactions. They have books on everyone. A few ground outs in ST mean nothing. Sheets has the potential to be a big bat or fizzle out but observations on a few ST AB's don't mean anything. He's shown he can work a count and pick the pitches to drive. Players like Sheets will make outs 3/4 of the time. I'd rather analyze what he does the other 1/4 times when he's not making outs. If he's taking walks, hitting doubles and HR's against RHP then he's doing a great job. The majority of his extra base hits will probably be to RF so yes he will GO often to the right side , probably hit into his share of double plays but I'll take those outs if he's slugging .500 with a high OPS against those righties. Sheets is the Sox best shot at putting up Conforto type numbers from the left side. I'm sorry if I was hostile. There's a battle on Soxtalk that divides us into a sort of Sheets vs. Vaughn mentality. Neither one should be in the minors now. They should both get a lot of AB's but unfortunately one or the other is going to have to get those AB's in RF for that to happen. The other spot to get a lot of AB's is DH. They both deserve an equal shot to do great things for the Sox.
  14. The playoffs for the Sox did prove a couple of things. They were the same team in the playoffs that they were in the regular season except minus their best pitcher. They hit and played way better at home than they did on the road and they couldn't beat good teams. I know the road thing happens for a lot of players. But the better teams can manage to look like better teams on the road. Sox players looked like they missed their naps. The only Sox regular position players with better road than home stats was Eloy and he was a mess when the playoffs started. I haven't looked at the pitchers. Atlanta may not have been the best team but they took control of their own destiny. They got hot at the right time and took full advantage of the pieces they picked up at the trade deadline and rode those guys to a Championship. I have no idea how to fix that particular problem . Maybe it happens to a lot of young players. TLR has been around long enough that he could grab the bull by the horns and rest guys on the last day of a home stand or use hit and runs more on the road.
  15. That's not how you phrased it. Shellacked and what happened is what you said.
  16. Well you can explain the book to everyone or just let us guess that you actually know anything. There's always books on everyone, then hitters adjust, then the book changes. It happened last year with him and I'm sure it will again. It's the baseball circle of life. Nothing to see here.
  17. He pitched yesterday too. Maybe that was the reason or it's like spring training and Sox are getting a feel if he can be functional 2 days in a row or it' spring training and he might be working on something ? Anyway let me remind everyone it's Spring Training Emphasis on training not results.
  18. SO if I combine these 2 posts he's scared to sign pitchers to long term deals but there's a better than fair chance that he sign an extension because the Sox have a history of extending their own pitchers ? Is he also scared to sign position players to big money extensions beyond more than a few FA years or sign FA agents to big contracts ?
  19. I don't think JR needs to be scared of not handing out big contracts to anyone. Big to him is anything higher than $90M these days when the rest of baseball surpasses that many many times in the last 4 or 5 off seasons.
  20. Perhaps you also noticed that 6 of his 17 AB's prior to this game today were against LHP and against RHP he was batting .364 in 11 ABs if we are going to draw conclusions based on small sample sizes and ST games. He's going to play against mostly RHP and rarely against LHP.
  21. He's very good which is why I have been saying Collins better watch his back. Scouting reports going back to his Rays days said he had a good arm, blocked pitches well and framed well. He did good yesterday handling 4 different pitchers
