Why? Don't need him and he's still in a role he doesn't want to be in. More better MILB players means more trade bait and minus Kimbrel's salary means more money for something else.

Outman isn't bad choice among those 4. I don't think the Sox would have to eat much of Kimbrels contract either for him. Made a big leap at AA last year. Got some MLB time with the Dodgers. Could be used in a trade for a pitcher with Oakland. Line at AA in 166 AB was .289 , .369, .518 .887 K's too much. Maybe get a 2nd piece and eat more contract.

Half a season of Minor league baseball changes things just like 1/2 a season of Kimbrel being great changed his value at the TDL. It's just the way they think and it is prudent thinking at this point .Jerry isn't going over the CBT and they probably prefer >< $10M under it in wiggle room.

I don't think the Sox wanted to get this close to the Tax in the 1st place let alone go over it. They are planning to be able to make moves at the TDL too so they feel something has to be in reserve. Kimbrel's the move that has to get done 1st. If we are $17M away from the cap anything freeing up $10M+ leaves the Sox able to afford $20M a year more and leaves some for the TDL. Might even get a prospect to use in a trade.

I'd be happy with 1 year of Naquin for Kimbrel. Cincy isn't totally broke. Maybe Naguin and a prospect if the Sox eat $6M Or Nick Senzel. He had a shit year probably not much of a 2nd baseman but he can play OF too. Of course he's Right Handed. Or Harold's Dream Jarred Kelenic, -.7 fWAR and LH power OF

Yea this is where I'm at odds with a lot of people. Me and you wanted Rodon back. Lots of people round here didnt and I get it. But he was the best $3M dollars ever spent. He went above and beyond the call of duty and the Sox pitched him like he was Verlander in his prime with no regard for managing his innings the whole 1st half of the season. Starter pitchers innings pitched has been trending downward for years and the Sox just pound him into the ground when he basically hadn't pitched in 2 years. Then it felt like 3/4 of board didn't want to resign him after he provided like $28M in surplus value to the Sox in 2021. They won't get that kind of value from anyone in 2022. That's a once in a generation type surplus value. And there are still plenty of people here who agreed that he shouldn't have got a QO and think the Sox would've been crazy to try to resign him. The way things are going now I'd have taken Rodon in a heartbeat and I said that before things degenerated.

I don't think it makes much sense to keep sticking up for Kimbrel's performance to keep arguing if he was good or bad in the past , and covid or whatever. He's old, the Sox used him in a role he wasn't suited for , gave up too much for him, picked up his option, over valued him, and now can't trade him and it is holding up making any other trades or adding any other payroll. I mean you do see what's happening here right ? I understand that from your perspective you feel the need to defend the arguments bout how bad he was in the past but right now the whole situation is like an anchor hanging around the Sox neck sucking the hope from the fanbase. I'm not particular angry .I'm used to this shit. No one ever said being a Sox fan was easy. Once the ST games start I'm on a whole other level of watching them play baseball again and that is a joyous thing. Winning a World Series or being really really really good is a whole other level of joy but you get my drift.

LOL the owner of Soxtalk just called the front office trash. Certain people can say things like you and get roasted because almost everything you say is negative and you rinse and repeat. I don't see anything wrong with that . Opposing viewpoints is what makes a message board tick,but it does give the Soxtalk sunshiners some ammo . But the poll showed the majority of people had no faith in the front office finishing the job. I'm not here saying it's a done deal. I'll believe they can do a little more until about a week until the season starts.

Syndergaard got $21M for a year after basically not pitching for 2 yrs. He's in the same boat Rodon was in last year when Rodon signed for $3M. Much better pitcher than Rodon over the course of his career of course but Rodon was the healthier one last yr and had the best year of his career even if it was only half a yr. of greatness which was pretty much expected anyway coming off hardly pitching for 2 yrs. The Sox got a shitload of surplus value from him. Do you think Thor is going pitch the same amount of innings this year as Rodon did last year with the same results ? Verlander got $25M plus a player option for 2023 for another $25M with the caveat that he pitch 130 innings in 2022. Again better career but same boat as Syndergaard with missing most of the last 2 seasons and he's 10 yrs older than Rodon. SF and Houston want to win and are willing to take their chances. Same with the Angels . Teams do these kind of things all the time. It's not that crazy. You just had 3 examples of it for 2022. I guarantee one thing. Houston,Angels and SF will not be letting Verlander, Rodon and Thor go 6 or more innings 10 times in his 1st 18 starts of the season like the Sox did with Rodon. They treated Rodon like he had 170 IPs the season before under his belt. Smart teams don't do that and you can bet your ass if any one of Verlander and Thor pitch as well as Rodon did last year they still won't do it.

Thanks for the historical perspective. Seems weird to me that anyone would say its holding a grudge. If it happened in your lifetime we all rehash what could have been regarding our beloved team. To me its the same as talking about guys we didn't sign or mistakes and bad signings. What would have happens if we didn't make certain trades? If talking about them and wishing for better makes you a bad person then I guess we are all bad people for wanting different outcomes. You weren't the 1st person to suggest Reinsdorf isn't the ideal owner and you won't be the last. If anyone here complains about Reinsdorf I guess we should all be condemned as holding grudges and try harder to live up to SS2K5's moral superiority.

That's the sense I got from listening to Krall (GM) after the Sonny Gray, Winker and Suarez trades. But in my post about it I also said it could be BS.

I made the poll to gauge how much of the board thought we would get someone like Conforto and another starting pitcher because there was a lot of bashing of the people talking negatively about the Sox Front office or the process and that it was coming from a small but loud subset of Soxtalk. The poll showed it was the majority who felt that way. It's idiotic to bash positive people because that's generally a good attitude to have . It's more idiotic to tell the majority of people who feel the same about the off season up to this point, that they are just loud,obnoxious miserable fans. My comments to Ptatc were never about me ,except to say I was part of that majority.
