  1. The author of the article I linked has 2 Degrees with one of them Applied Mathematics. He analyzed him 6 ways using Sabermetrics , Chase Rate, Whiff Rate, Quality of Contact, Ground Ball Percentage, Plate Discipline and Mechanical Changes. He then went into Defensive Shortcomings and Team Fit and a Final Verdict. He was very fair. He didn't use a term like cherry picked because as a RHB you have automatic built in advantage when the majority of pitchers are Righthanded and the advantage of bad pitching staffs against bad teams just like the rest of the hitters do. The crazy thing is with 290 more plate appearances and his lack of defense earned Vaughn a .3 fWAR. Gavin had a .4 just for the record. They are both 1st basemen playing the OF .If SHeets was in LF the majority of the time like Vaughn was he probably does just the same defensively. Gavin led the Sox in Total bases in the playoffs despite being only 8th in plate appearances. That's what power hitting lefties facing playoff pitching can do and what the Sox are failing to address ATM.
  2. Ok I'll be that guy. Isn't a great post worth a like ?
  3. https://www.soxon35th.com/what-to-make-of-gavin-sheets-heading-into-2022/ This should help anyone who wants to get a good analysis of Sheets. It's pretty positive on him as a hitter on both his walk and K rate, his ability to go oppo, the way he made adjustments . Not once do you see the writer talk about cherry picked AB's. The fact is , as it was for most Sox players , that they played a lot of bad teams with bad pitching. If you are a left handed power hitter you have to put the ball in the air and Sheets has worked hard on that throughout his minor league career. Sheets also said Grandal was the most helpful to him. That's not a bad mentor. Take pitches , wait for your pitch, hit it in the air ,hit HRs and you will be fine. As the shortened signing period goes on. His fielding left a lot to be desired in right but what if he had started in LF like Vaughn got to do? RF is a more difficult position and even after getting a lot of OF time in LF Vaughn didn't easily transition to RF either. Sheets did most of his damage as a DH. According to the recent Soxtalk poll many are not expecting the Sox to fill the RF hole with a big LH bat. If they don't then Sheets presence in the lineup is a must until he proves he doesn't belong there . But what if he just keep getting better and proves he can hit 30+ HR's from the left side in his 1st full season. The Sox have had so many injuries that we have never got 30 HR's from Moncada or Robert and only 1 from Eloy . What if this is the year we can get 30+ from all of them ? Sheets was on a pace for 30+ HR's if he got 500 ABs It's really difficult to separate Sheets from Vaughn in the Sox equation. I don't think the Sox want to get rid of either one of them but no one wants Vaughn to become the weak side of a DH platoon and no one wants either one of them playing RF. If you are the super fan of Vaughn it's difficult to praise Sheets because if the Sox keep both, you absolutely have to give him AB's which takes away Vaughn AB's.
  4. Somebody has to play catcher for them since they trade 2 of them.
  5. He's just paving the way for Kevin Keirmaier trade to the Sox .
  6. They have to field a decent enough team to keep the fans interested. Might be just the Minnesota way of rebuilding .Maybe looking to be competitive next year. The Sox could start falling off if Lynn's back gets bad . Kopech struggles, Giolito has a down year and Cease struggles to keep moving forward.
  7. They're rebuilding .Out with the old big contracts get a smaller one back in Sanchez then dump his too. I mean if you can't live with a 1 yr. $7.5 M contract that's a rebuild.
  8. Nope all righties all the time. It isn't that hard.
  9. I'm sure they would be since he probably wants to prove last yr was a fluke. He may want to opt out after the 1st year and try again with the tighter defensive rules in play about the shift. The again if he can get a 4 or 5 yr deal worth from $80- $100M there might be no need to opt out.
  10. Yea there was Keuchel and Ryu and one other pitcher. Bumgarner perhaps ? They were rumored to be connected to both Ryu and Keuchel.
  11. People have short memories. The Sox FO as a whole has made terrible mistakes in all area of the organization for a long time now. You name it scouting and development, Intl draft, college draft, biomechanics, sabermetrics, friends and family , trades , Free agency, admitting they underestimated a market. When did Hahn say that? November ? December ?
  12. Some of it is sure. But he was getting a ton of high choppers and little dribblers because of the sinker and batters just hitting the top of the ball. Then a walk and its 3 men on and grab the pearls time .
  13. I see no point in arguing at all. I'm not going to look up a blanket statement covering all MLB teams and see how many relief pitchers they signed or traded for. Balta was specifically having a discussion with SS2k5 and used his own words against him. 20 guys in the minors and he wasn't worried about the BP for the next few years. I don't know how long the next few years meant .You'd have to ask the source or ask him who the 20 pitchers were in which he had all that confidence.
  14. Preaching to the choir but as you witnessed there are some who wouldn't do it.
  15. If you were the source of that joke and came out and said you were joking I'd say haha good one ! But you never know..
  16. You could some of those yourself. Hendriks, Kimbrel, Tepera, Graveman, Kelly Velasquez. Maybe Colome Evan Marshall ,Jimmy Cordero came from came from outside the organization but they were cheap . There could be more if we are talking about since April of 2018.
  17. Really? Harrison and Velaquez when there's like 25 guys big names people want to break the news on . No one cares about Harrison and Velasquez , they aren't feathers in anyone's caps .
  18. Damn that was a smooth answer. I have no idea the rationale behind anyone saying they wouldn't do that trade except for just blind faith in Kopech. The kid could be the next Seaver but he ain't that now while at the same time saying no to an extra $10M ?
  19. Assuming everyone is healthy and I'm not missing a mystery injury to Woodruff. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Woodruff is at the top of his game and Kopech is a gleam in our eyes hoping to become what Woodruff already is. Woodruff would make the Sox a real legit threat out of the box to win it all this year and can pitch a full season. Not only that his salary this year is $6M and Kimbrel's is $16M so the Sox gain $10M in CBT space for 2022. Am I missing something here ? Seems like a no brainer .
  20. Please notice that I said Left handed Right Fielder. While Castellanos is a great hitter the Sox would be once again a vastly Right handed hitting lineup with him.
  21. I'm curious as to how everyone feels about the remaining big moves some think are coming and some don't. Let's hear it.
