Hello Jason. I hope you are well. As you know I have been a member here for a very long time. I have never been banned and usually try to stay out of politics since the primary function of Soxtalk is sports. I know there are places here to discuss politics and other relevant issues of today's world.
What is bothering me is the constant interjection of politics into the sports threads. I know sports and politics intertwine on many occasions and therefore, it is difficult to regulate.
The NLCS thread I started was just closed by an admin because politics invaded it and I spoke out against the invasion. Of course I knew the second I opened my mouth to complain about it that I couldn't win because everyone feels the right to express their opinions on racism in all threads. I thought maybe an admin would say keep politics out of the thread. Aren't there some rules of the site that support me thinking that way ? All I did was start a baseball thread and did nothing to provoke the invasion of politics into it. The thread was closed because once I stated I just wanted to enjoy baseball without the politics someone else chimed in that their enjoyment of baseball was compromised by the racism of the Braves organization. Then I got sarcastic by basically saying it's the trendy thing to do rather than actually being so concerned as to do anything about it except ruin the thread. I know me commenting about it also lead to the ruination of the thread and I was admonished by admin Kyyle that since I was offended in previous threads about southsider2k5 use of ageist remarks that I shouldn't be so upset about the political statements in the threads. I know this is getting somewhat convoluted but bear with me. My previous comments to southsider2k5 were brought about by his lack of sensitivity on more than one occasion making fun of Baby boomers. I know that isn't much of an issue with most people like racism is but I thought it was important that if we are to be sensitive about about race and creed then we should also be sensitive about comments on the elderly and not disparage a whole generation of people. Any way you can read it all in the thread that was closed and I am hesitant to start the NLCS thread again .
After the thread was closed southsider2k5 also posted. Maybe he used his admin powers to post in the thread after it was closed or maybe he got it in before it was closed. All I know is I saw the popup that he had commented after the thread was already closed.
A few months ago I wrote to another admin Texsox that I felt southsider2k5 was abusing his privileges as an admin by using his knowledge of who uses emojis by making posts letting another poster know that as an admin he knew that poster was using laugh emojis on other peoples posts . No one is supposed to know who uses emojis except admin are allowed to see that but I thought he was violating the posters right to privacy when using emojis by telling anyone who read his posts that he knew where he was using them. Texsox was sympathetic and I quoted the posts to him that southsider2k5 made to show him what I meant. Texsox was not aware that admins can see who posts emojis where. I suppose Texsox wrote to southsider2k5 and kept my name out of it and that was the end of it.
Once again I know how hard it is to regulate admins and keep politics out of threads and I apologize if what I wrote was difficult to follow. I also know it's been increasingly difficult since the LaRussa hire to keep politics and ageist comments out of threads. I am sorry if I am a problem. All I did was start a thread about the NLCS. I did nothing to provoke the original political commentary that appeared in the thread. If you need anything else from me such as my letters to Texsox to better understand what the heck I'm talking about feel free to ask for them.
Sincerely,
Ronald Ward
