  1. I know he looked bad in the AFL . High k and free swinging.
  2. Cespedes is #2 from the midseason rankings at Future Sox but it's apparent some of that was based on Paddy calling him MLB ready and the dearth of good prospects in the organization now but he did have a nice 1st year adjusting to the states and from his time away from playing.. Yolbert went up from 27 to 17 and has some helium based on his good showing in the AFL.
  3. I look at it as a non question mark for 2 question marks
  4. I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen Nimmo's name once so far when talking about trades . It's his last year before he becomes a free agent perhaps that's why. He also can't ever seem to play over 100 games. Had a real nice fWar for only 92 games. Guess they will hold onto him unless it becomes apparent they aren't competing at the trade deadline. Can we offer Cespedes and Yolbert Sanchez and see if they nibble ?
  5. @Flash deserves lots of credit for sticking his neck out as much as he did on Burnes. It isn't easy taking heat on here when you run contrary to popular opinion. There are some people who can do it with grace. I am not one of them.
  6. It was one of the names I suggested before the deadline last year and everyone told me Seattle probably wouldn't trade him. Then they traded him to Houston and pissed off the Mariner players.
  7. How do you know the trade package was made up ? You don't find it odd that both Madrigal and Heuer were used to get Kimbrel ? Seems to me they've been shopping both of those guys for a while.
  8. Who knows, I mean if Vaughn and Crochet + got it done is that better than what the Sox got for Sale? I guess we will find out in another 5+ years or so.
  9. Re-read the thread , you'll see. It's in there somewhere. I think James Fox said it had legs. Sure it made no sense if the Sox didn't offer enough. There's no guarantee Milwaukee would've traded Burnes even if offered a better package but if Madrigal , Heuer + was the best the Sox could do then it was never going to happen.
  10. The same thing was said last year when there was all the speculation about trading for Corbin Burnes. That rumor was real but the Sox didn't make Vaughn , Kopech or Crochet available even though Burnes fit the window better since he already had MLB innings under his belt and it was a fair assumption that he was capable of close to 150 IP based on the previous years workloads. But no one wanted to trade them .Only a few were bold enough to accept the scorn of Soxtalk by suggesting trading any of those guys for Burnes. I suggested Vaughn and Crochet . End result was we missed out of the NL Cy Young winner and a possible Championship. Also a package eerily similar to what was supposedly offered for Burnes was used to trade for Kimbrel and Hernandez neither of whom should be playing for the Sox in 2022. The Sox will probably end up with very little for trading Madrigal, Heuer and Pilkington except for making the Sox worse rather than having an excellent shot at the World Series. Burnes only got a chance to pitch 1 game in the playoffs, 6 scoreless innings in a win against eventual World Series Champ Atlanta Braves who actually improved their team with trades at the deadline. The Sox are now in the same position as last year. Sure Vaughn , Kopech and Crochet are still here and 1 year closer to reaching their full potential but neither one is a lock for immediate success. In case anyone hasn't noticed but the window is wide open now , as it was last year. All that being said I don't want them to trade for anyone if the trade deadline results are what to expect.
  11. That's really fucking the RF defense though. Sheets and Vaughn in RF might be as bad or worse as putting Schwarber in RF.
  12. Sheets was .848 in his 191 PA sample size combining regular season and playoffs. You never know if .850 is a possibility.
  13. If the numbers you posted on the image are to be believed Cease is behind Giolito and Lynn which would make him 3rd. You said 2nd.
  14. I can see Conforto for the OF and I love Schwarber's bat now that he's a bit more selective but he would add to our collection at DH. Pederson , no. I like Gavin Sheets. Steamer has a nice projection on him. Decent walk rate, not terribly high K rate. Plus power and can go the other way. He did extremely well in his 191PA appearance sample size, 12 HR ,9 doubles and 21 of his 44 hits were extra bases. That's a nice percentage resulting in a high ISO.
  15. I look for any big name who is going to be signed before Dec.1 to sign between the 28th and 30th .
  16. Probably why looking at projections isn't a big thing for me. It just looks like they take the whole career to the current point in time . Like with Eloy he has had so many injuries and had negative value defensively that in his time with the Sox he hasn't been as valuable as Moncada was in 2021. Steamer has Moncada at 3.9 and Eloy 2.5 so use Steamer instead .
  17. Sorry Ronnie. I just try to put myself in his position. He's worked hard to get to where he's at now , a lot harder when you consider the length of his medical rehabilitation. He'll continue to work hard on his fielding. He may not ever have good range but reflexes are more important at 3rd. What makes you think he's average at best and probably below average ? Just like with the bat fielding can also improve. You notice I didn't say he could play 2nd.
  18. I think the Sox have internal options to fill 2nd that might be a year away but Burger isn't one of them. Yolbert Sanchez will be 25 in March , hit very well in AA and with the Glendale Desert Dogs so the Sox seem to be accelerating his push up. I expect to see a lot of him in Spring Training even if the Sox go outside the organization for a guy for this year. Then there is Jose Rodriguez who is only 20 and might be the best position player the Sox have had at that age since Luis Robert. There's also 25 yr old Romy Gonzalez who crushed his way through Birmingham and Charlotte and made his MLB debut with the Sox. He's a solid 6'1 215lb power hitter. He only got 60 PA at Charlotte but tore the cover off the ball in that SSS. If the Sox make any trades they may include 1 of these guys or Burger for that matter.
  19. What about Jake Burger makes you think he can't be better than average 3rd baseman ? Plenty of people wrote him off after missing so much time and then he crushed his way to the big leagues in a year in which nobody would have faulted him for being very rusty. Burger deserves a lot of credit. Quality people mean something. There are plenty of scumbag players. I don't like it when players get dehumanized especially Burger who is constantly ripped by one member of Soxtalk as being a fat blob. Having your dreams ripped apart by devastating injuries would mess with a lot of people's heads but Burger fought through it. I hope he becomes a rock solid fielder and hitter at 3rd base. Not everyone can be versatile but if you are really good hitter and 3rd baseman that should keep you in the big leagues for a long time.
  20. I think compounding the error is picking up his option and getting a minimal return. Why do you think the Sox picked up his option in the 1st place ?Or maybe you think the Sox already compounded the error by picking up his option. That I can understand at least.
  21. I just don't think that's how most fans see it. The guy I responded to didn't think Segura was even enough for Kimbrel straight up. And that suggestion basically traded Kimbrel's salary for Segura's and filled one of our holes. Obviously he's not LH but he's a good player and for only 1 year we give Jose Rodriquez, Yolbert Sanchez and Romy Gonzalez chances to grow and perhaps fill 2nd base down the road. I know I wouldn't be applauding Hahn for minimizing the return on Kimbrel when all he had to do was not pick up the option. I'd be pissed that he doubled down on his losses and lost again. I'd put it under my favorite files of Sox disasters called "Sox Gonna Sox."
  22. I totally understand where you're coming from and to make my point to the poster I responded to I used your return for Kimbrel as an example. Didn't do it to make you look bad. Unfortunately I think what we gave up for Kimbrel is totally relevant because once the Sox decided to pick up his option they now have to maximize his trade value because if they don't they look even worse by compounding the disaster of a trade by picking up his option and getting nothing in return. If they made the trade for Kimbrel you suggested every media outlet in the US and every voice of the fan on twitter and elsewhere will be asking "Why the fuck did they pick up his option if all they got was some nobody relief pitcher " ? Why not just decline the option and let him become a FA ? They picked up his option to maximize some value in a trade which you did not do. You asked "Are we trying to win a World Series next year or is pretending the Kimbrel trade wasn’t a disaster more important? " Good question . Probably should ask the Sox then why they picked up his option. But since they did pick it up they obviously intend to try to salvage something from that trade.
  23. Segura is a good player with a good track record. I have a hard time believing they will get better than him. Since the decision is already made on Kimbrel they now have to rid themselves of his salary while getting the best piece possible in return If you can trade salary for salary while at the same time filling one of our holes you have to do it. There's one guy on the board who did a very detailed analysis on what he would do with the roster with James Fox's saying Reinsdorf is going to have payroll around $190-$200M. He had the Phillies eating the whole contract and giving us a relief pitcher who has 1 inning pitched in the last 2 years ,was injured last year, is 27 and has 3 yrs of eligibility. He also had the Sox trading Keuchel and most of his salary in order to sign Scherzer at 3/120M and Conforto. I asked him did he want the final tally on the Kimbrel trade to be Madrigal, Heuer and whatever we paid Kimbrel to shit the bed last year to be a nobody relief pitcher ? And if that's the case why even bother picking up Kimbrel option ? So yea , I have the same concerns as you and as others have suggested Segura straight up for Kimbrel might be the best case scenario. Now that same guy @Chicago White Sox didn't like the Segura for Kimbrel trade and said just pay Escobar $10M but in his new analysis I just told you what he suggested doing with Kimbrel and his 2nd base solution was trading a prospect for Tony Kemp because he had spent all the money on Conforto and Scherzer.
