  1. Because in the scheme of things all they get is a minor league catcher who there was probably one thing they liked about him maybe 2. He has power and if his defense is good who knows what can happen but they got some years to find out. That's for the trade they just made. But he's a young body and can be used in numerous ways whereas a 41 yr. old pitcher is out the door and gone soon. TB does it this way to survive as a franchise without money. Most big leagues teams and their fans just think throwing money at a problem works. Now try suggesting around here that you trade Eloy. Most people would call you crazy even though he's injured all the time and is a shitty fielder. Now lets say Eloy comes back from injury , hits very well and is World Series MVP. TB would probably trade him at the height of what they could get for him . Now that's not the same as trading a 41 yr old pitcher for a minor leaguer but they aren't afraid of pulling the trigger on selling a guy like Blake Snell in the off season after reaching the World Series. They dump guys before they get expensive and are constantly keeping the farm system loaded because of it. Plus they take advantage of being a small market team on things a big market team like the Sox don't get like more draft money, more intl money, higher comp. picks. I don't know all the advantages or even if I got the ones I listed right. Big fan bases don't like to see their favorite players go but you see what happens to teams that rebuild and spend big money or hang onto players. Royals were in 2 straight World Series in 14, and 15 now they are rebuilding again. Cubs ran out of money. Only Houston is hanging on longer. But once the Sox window closes maybe its back to sucking like the Royals or the core gets too expensive to keep. If you want to keep contending and not be at the top of the salary lists you pretty much have to sell some of your stars when they are worth the most and trust that your scouting and player development is top notch.
  2. Unconventional is a better word. They do what they have to do always making sure to buy low on good prospects not too many seasons removed form good prospect status. They got 2 players for a 41 yr. old pitcher who they signed for 2.5M who was a FA next yr. Getting 2 nothings for 1 old nothing is how you should be doing it.
  3. Or Lopez or Adolfo which pretty much any team isn't going to want.
  4. 50 minutes and 33.6 miles away. Not too bad depending on the time of day. Probably drops the dog for road trips and lives nearby. St. Johns is supposed to be a very nice place.
  5. Just biding my time to see what happens with trades. It would be extra nice to win 2 of 3 in Milwaukee but I'm not expecting it unless the Sox pitching staff can hold the Brew Crew to 10 runs or less in 3 games.
  6. I know the list is subjective but are you seeing any pattern where guys like Kopech, Jimenez, Robert, and Moncada's values shrank due to injuries, Covid problems or in the case of Kopech, as you pointed out, missing a year and being unable to build value as a SP. After all, when value is concerned being on the field probably means more than anything along with consistency of performance when on the field and when you become a free agent. In other words, sometimes it's a matter of circumstances like Alvarez got hurt but it was in 2020 and anyone who played 2020 couldn't really build much value because of the 60 game season. 2020 seemed like it could've been a breakout year for Eloy but 60 was not enough to establish that and in 2021 his season will be comparable to 2020 with perhaps worst stats coming off an injury. That's 2 of his prime value years. So really all he has is his rookie year ,a bunch of injuries, and negative defensive value while having a year less control than Alvarez while Alvarez has 2x the amount of WAR. If he does stay healthy is not what has happened so far.
  7. There's so much going on with fielding whether it's the lights , the sky , the wind that I try to stay away from how OF's or infielders look in a small sample sizes generally. Even with hitting and pitching things aren't always as they appear. I was listening to a Willy Adames interview recently after being named NL player of the week. He's been on fire since he was traded. He talked about how he just didn't see the ball well at home in TB. The lighting or background just didn't sit right with him. I started thinking that would make me hesitate on getting pitching from TB if that was a complaint heard often from TB hitters or visiting players.
  8. I am retiring for the evening was probably said many times when people spoke gooder English.
  9. He can catch. He hasn't strictly DH'd in the minors. Terrible teams often take chances on helping someones defense. Semien got better, Narvaez got better. Good luck Yermin a lot of people are wishing that you pursue your dream and stay focused .
  10. I guess we will find out how important that comp pick is. They can trade him for more than the worth of a comp pick I'm imagining. Or if they don't want to give him the QO and risk him accepting it then just don't offer it and lose the comp pick.
  11. Just search your posts by left clicking your avatar that's in the upper right of the screen. If it's not on the 1sr page showing click on see my activity also at the upper right on that 1st page.
  12. Escobar easy. Just need the 2nd baseman for the rest of the year. Backs up 3rd, costs way less. You can see the last few days or longer what the HR 's provide. Escobar hit a triple and HR yesterday . Just missed the 2nd HR on the triple high off the CF wall.
  13. Blackjack ! Season high 21 games over .500 !
  14. First of all I'd like to state I am pretty ignorant on this subject and only in the past year or so have I become interested in it. Travis Sawchik wrote Big Data Baseball and the MVP Machine and is an expert on how MLB teams use big data, technology, biomechanics etc. to improve the system from top to bottom. Does anyone here have much info on how , who or what the Sox have done in this regard ? I know in the past couple of years they have placed more emphasis on it . I always thought an upgrade in these areas should have gone hand in hand with the rebuild since Big Data was out in 2015 and although I haven't read it used Houston as an example for modern baseball tech. I am hearing from Sawchik the Orioles have used some of the pioneers from Houston to upgrade their data tech. He brings up that the 2020 lost season may have developed a gulf from those teams who used that season productively for their minor leaguers and those who did not. His latest writings on this are on the Score. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2178631/after-a-lost-season-some-minor-league-systems-have-vaulted-ahead-of-others I know I am asking for a lot of info and I would appreciate any long involved post for an honest opinion of the state of the Sox tech side of things. This would include the dates the Sox really started taking data seriously ,hirings from different organizations, equipment and data available to all in the system without coaches being involved so the more studious prospects can do research on their own on things such as different grips for pitchers and how that is handled for those players from foreign countries whose primary language isn't English. Thank you. Edit: It would also be helpful do know anyone besides Sawchik who writes about these things that I can follow on twitter.
  15. Sheets also got interviewed by MLB Network after the game by Amsinger, Plesac and Showalter for almost 4 minutes. Also nice to see Moncada and Anderson hit some HR's recently, too.
  16. Better to have a really good SSS than a bad one. We are already getting clues on what opposing pitchers are going to do with Sheets. He can crush FB low or high. He'll get curved until he proves he can prove he can get under them or drive them the other way instead of getting on top of them and grounding out. Burger they are going up and in on him with the fast ball and the usual sliders away that all RH hitters have to face.
  17. The same reason Yanks and Pads interested in Gallo is here.
  18. I'd be thrilled if when Eloy comes back he can hit as many bombs as Sheets has in the same number of ABs. Robert I soooo want to see him stay on the field and reach that enormous potential.
