That's why I made the thread. Every player get's his own thread from time to time based on how well or poorly they are doing but as a group of Rookies all performing well it's been a very solid reason why the team is very good. 5 rookies performing so well is hard to imagine. I don't know if anyone can come up with such a large group on any team in recent memory.

I'm going to reserve judgement on Vaughn's fielding. I've been fooling around on Baseball Savant and he's surrounded by a bunch of catchers and DH's as far as sprint speed goes. Their are some LFer's comparatively fast like Jesse Winker and Alex Dickerson. As far as jumps and reads go he's in the negative and also in the negative of OAA (Outs Against Average) but sample size is still pretty low but the bigger the sample size, the worse I expect it to get for him since everything is based on how much ground you can cover relative to how long the ball is in the air from where you started. That means speed, route, and jump all come into play. While with more time his routes or jumps could improve his speed will not. Things that go wrong would not be obvious to most fans because he may not get to a ball that someone faster would in a situation like bases loaded 2 outs and a double barely out of his reach that scores 3 runs. But it will show up in his OAA. As for now he's been fine but as the sample size grows I'm not optimistic. But hey maybe you will find more encouraging things than I did on his Baseball Savant page.

That's the difference between Vaughn and Mercedes. Everyone thinks once Vaughn starts hitting ( and he has) that he will sustain it because of college accolades and rank . People aren't as sure about Mercedes because he's taken the longer harder road to MLB. Vaughn already has multiple $Millions while Mercedes is lucky to have qualified recently for the minimal MLB pension . I'm rooting for Mercedes for ROY. Nothing against Vaughn , I love the kid, I'm more of a share the wealth kind of guy and Mercedes might have to hit well for 5 years just to come close to Vaughn's signing money.

Awesome another brave soul with his prediction down for all eternity. Once he hits his 2nd HR no more predictions will count. Same with Yermin all predictions in before his 6th HR.

I think we all know who it is. It hasn't really been much of a mystery .

I think I can make an Irish folk/drinking song out of that 1st sentence. An ugly win but a win is a win A win is a win , win is a win An ugly win but a win is a win Early in the mornin' A pretty win for a win is a win , A win is a win , a win is a win A pretty win for a win is a win , Early in the mornin' Gather ye round 'cause a win is a win A win is a win, a win is a win Gather ye round 'cause a win is win Early in the mornin' Raise your glass for a win is a win, A win is a win , a win is a win, Raise your glass for a win is a win It's grand ,it's grand, it's, grand ! -
How are the White Sox leading the AL in runs per game?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right thanks for reminding me of that, I think I blocked it from my memory ! Week and a half ago for the Robert injury and slightly longer than a week with LaRussa. Combine the 2 and that had everyone really upset with the LaRussa "rule" debacle. -

I don't think we have to give credit to anyone but the people on the field somewhere, be it the playing field or the dugout. It's too hard to compare the team year to year given the late start last year and changes in personnel . IMO you compare yourself to the rest of the league without worrying too much about strength of schedule. Like Hawk used to say it's not who you play but when you play them , or even where you play them. Soxtalk was at it's lowest point of the year around a week ago with the LaRussa debacle and now here we are at our highest point shortly after. It's like they tell the players , Don't get too down when you are doing bad and don't get too up when you are doing well. Keep things in perspective , remember it's a marathon not a sprint. That's what professionals do . Stay positive. Support your team mates . Sit back, relax and strap it down. -

Thank you Quin, great post and very thorough. That kind of post probably takes something like an hour to do when combining the research and the writing. That's dedication. -
Congrats to Soxtalk Posters! 4,000,000 Posts

Summary of how The Rookies did last night. Vaughn: 1/4 , HR, 2 RBI ,3 RS, 1 BB Mercedes: 1/4, RBI,1 BB Madrigal 1/5 , 1 RS

We got to see Billy Hamilton at his very best today. 4 for 4 with a double, triple,RBI, 3 RS,SB and one of the runs scored was on a WP that no one else even tries to score. . It's an exciting brand of baseball. Too bad it happens so rarely but he has elite speed and is an elite defender and neither of those is an exaggeration. Congrats to Vaughn on his 1st HR with many more to follow . Grandal with his second bomb in 2 days. Also another 2 walks. Jose and Moncada doing Pito and YoYo things with 2 hits apiece with 3 and 2 RBI respectively. Timmy being Timmy with a 2 for 4 day and an RBI.

Ok cool you're taking the over on Vaughn . I think I set Yermins at 19 ? So over on that too ? I guess the proper way to do an over under would to add a .5 to the 13 and 19 to avoid ties but doesn't matter if they tie because no money being exchanged.

Sox Veteran Pitching Depth Targets
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Miami might have some relievers they are willing to sell. I haven't checked peripherals or to see if these guys are considered future starters but Dylan Floro and Yimi Garcia seem pretty good as of now. Obviously that can change with one real bad outing so maybe look at their numbers in a month. -
So now that Vaughn has hit his 1st HR any takers who want to predict the number of HR's he will hit? You can predict a total number or take the over/under of 13 I set.

They don't even replace the catcher in blowout wins or losses with him. That should tell you something. However he did play in Spring training and he has a really good arm. I'm one of the few on here who thinks he could start a game here and there at C. Once a month maybe if Grandal or Collins is feeling beat up ? Maybe because of his defense and hitting they don't want to take a chance of him getting banged up. The old if it not broke don't fix it thing.

I like it for the trailer for Wonder Woman 84 and it got me all hyped for the movie expecting a good 80's soundtrack . Then I went to see it and there was one 80's song and the movie was terrible, so incredibly bad, filled with a sympathetic villain and by Wonder woman talking the villain and the world into giving up lol. Sorry for the spoiler if you haven't seen it y'all. And this is coming from a guy who loved the 1st Wonder Woman Movie and even liked Justice League with Wonder Woman in it.

I predicted the Blackhawks would win the Stanley Cup 3-2 right before the final game on the NHL forum here and that Towes would score a goal. There were down 2-1 ( I think Toewes had the lone goal) got an empty net goal when they pulled their goalie and then won it 3-2 a minute or less later . I'm sure it can be found somewhere on here. I also was the closest guy on the predict the numbers on Abreu's 1st year. I was so amazingly close I think someone suggested people went back and changed their predictions but I didn't.
