My 2 cents worth is he's trying to be something the Sox want him to be and as of yet the changes aren't working.
He can't be that guy who can have a good walk rate and still be the hitter he was in 2023. He's opened his stance, moved farther back in the box, has a smaller leg kick than in 2023. Those changes all seem designed to give him a longer look at the ball and simplify his swing but sometimes his swing looks like all arm's and no legs/hips in it.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that he hasn't been the same player since returning from his right hip flexor that he sustained in April 2024. He also had the serious right hip flexor tear in May 2021.
He just doesn't seem to crush the ball for 425 ft+ HRs anymore . To my eyes he looks stiffer and his timing is way off.
Let's get back the front knee lifted higher leg kick ,close the stance and move up a tiny bit in the box guy from 2023 and find the high EV, power hitter again not the weak hitting walker.
