I don't think it depends on what they are going to do with him. It depends on how other teams view him. I am in the minority because I view him as an injury waiting to happen, a guy far away from being a starter, a guy who may never be a starter , and if he is kept a guy who is more than likely a BP piece. Most of Soxtalk views him as someone like Verlander, Sale, Steve Carlton . If other MLB organizations view him like that, then in my eyes the best thing the Sox can do is use him to get a valuable piece for the team going forward since Crochet will only contribute this year as a reliever and if injured may never become a starter.

Hey I'm finally not alone in thinking to trade him.

If they end up signing Bauer I'll believe that. -

But it's his walk year. Angels arent winning anything. Why not get an asset or 2 for the future ? Maybe they hang onto him until the trade deadline when they are 10 games under .500 . -

RIP Tommy and best wishes to his family. He was such a colorful guy and bled Dodger Blue. He also was capable of some unforgettable moments.

Cordero tops the list of guys who is going to get squeezed out of the pen so it's likely the Sox have him on the "include him in any trade if anyone wants him" list along with guys like Sheets ,Rutherford, Luis Gonzalez, Micker Adolpho, Collins, Mercedes, Zavala etc. -

They could speed things up if they were willing to use Crochet as a big trade chip in any deal. I know I am not very popular to keep suggesting this but he is going to take a lot of time to get ready to be a SP if he can ever even get there. I know you have commented in the past that you think I am over reacting to his injury in the playoff game. But it is not just that. He did miss all but 3 innings in his final year of college because of shoulder issues too. It just seems like he can't sustain throwing that hard for very long. There is no doubt he should be viewed as a high risk project not some potentially elite starting pitcher but if other teams view him that way he becomes more valuable than his likely outcome as a reliever or a major injury waiting to happen. If some rebuild team wants to view him as a starting pitcher and has the time to give him to try to accomplish that, then the Sox have a pretty good trade chip that is going to be almost useless to them except as a reliever this year. If he gets a major arm injury this year then it could be years before he can try to be a SP again. If you add Hendriks he becomes even more expendable. Then you can keep your starting 2nd baseman, maybe keep Heuer, not spend more money replacing Madrigal. I'm just not very keen on deleting good pieces from the 25 and spending more money to get incrementally better now. -
Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

Yea I'm sure Jerry is going to say screw it and go for it. -

Mets Reportedly Acquire Lindor/Carrasco (Passan Reporting)

Funny how this came out after I posted that I have seen no indications that the Mets would be going hog wild on FA's. -

Basically we have heard nothing from the traditional big spenders like the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox all of whom may be dealing with Competitive Balance Tax issues. Not sure if the Red Sox fit that issue but we have also heard Houston is close to the CB tax issue also. Dodgers supposedly interested in LeMahieu now or Bryant if Turner is out of the equation given his wants. Yankees still considered a favorite to keep Lemahieu but we just aren't getting a very clear picture right now on a helluva lot of talent and what exactly the majority of owners are up to. It's all very much wait and see right now with only the Padres and Mets doing anything noteworthy so far. -

I have seen no indication that the Mets will go hog wild after free agents like everyone assumed they would. This is still a long waiting game to be played out. The only 2 teams rumored to be in on a lot of high priced talent are the Mets and Toronto and they can't get everyone and the Mets are filling needs already without splurging. -

I think him becoming an Altuve type is something we can rule out with at the very least 75% accuracy and that might be generous. He is too focused on making contact. That is what has been his M.O. I think it's possible for him to improve his hard hit ball rate but because of the focus on not striking out he will always get a lot of Piranha type hits. He still needs to show he can be above average in the field and running the bases. If he does that and still maintains the bleeders and doinks while adding more hard hit balls that become doubles and triples we're going to get a pretty good player capable of 3+ WAR every year for a while. He needs to reign himself in on the bases and show he is the heady type of player everyone thought he was. That's one major adjustment he should be capable of making rather quickly. I'm hoping TLR makes him understand his role is to get on base, field well and run smart and that will be enough. He doesn't have to be more than he is. -

Seem's to me that Cleveland is taking the Tampa Bay Rays approach. There is definitely room to take that approach and make it work. Someone has to be able to do it as good as TB. -

Seems a bit steep to me but, hey, u might be right. Ages 32-35 for the Wonder from Down Under.Hendriks would give the Sox another Top Ten finisher in the AL Cy Young from last year. 5.Keuchel , 6. Lynn, 7. Giolito 9. Hendriks with ex Sox Chris Bassitt finishing 8th. Trevor Bauer Won the Cy Young in the NL. So has anyone yet said " All The 2020 Cy Young Top Ten guys ! ". Too bad we didn't get Darvish . We'd have a 2, 5, 6, 7 with a chance still at a 1 and a 9. That's how you go for it if you really want it. That's all in .Take one big shot at it . Load up on pitching and you could get a nice 3 year run at it . Counting last year we could have 3 years in a row with shortened seasons with expanded playoffs.Take a bonafide shot at it and spend whats necessary and burn the farm down. All this extended run bullshit they feed us is laughable. If we get 5 good years in a row it will be a miracle. It always ends up getting all Soxy ,bad shit happening. It's yay the Sox are good again and then oh wait Jerry's still the owner, there's a nasty virus going around fucking all kinds of shit up. If this is to be the last year of a Covid shortened season, we then have the CBA BS to deal with and we already know Jerry is willing to give up on a World Series bound team in 94" to get what the owners want. Winning the CBA is more important than a World Series team. Yep gettin' all Soxy in hea' ! Injuries to young pitchers, COVID ,labor strife is all throwing a monkey wrench into our competitive window providing JR more reasons not to spend money, as if he needed any more ! -

Aloha isn't one of those words that means one thing. Most think it can mean hello or goodbye but the locals use it both ways not to say hello or goodbye but love peace and compassion . It isnt always appropriate to use it all the time since you might not be happy to see someone and it weakens the true concept of the word -

Toolsy guys always have the highest ceilings . Once in the bigs though that toolsy stuff with poor results doesn't cut it. How much time it takes before you give up is based on a lot of things. Giving up on our young core can have many future consequences. It's one thing to trade away guys years away while expecting to compete. It's quite another to get rid of years of control for guys already on the 25 . We did that with Dunning and I was ok with it . Doing it with another guy from the 25 who is basically your starting 2nd baseman doesn't seem all that appealing when you have to spend more money to replace him and more money and more prospects to also fill the SP pitcher hole. Just sign a FA SP for heavens sake and leave some money for RP, maybe another LH bat . -

He has plenty of room to get better . If he had fielded and ran the base well but not great he probably was a 1 WAR guy in 29 games or at least .5 . Extrapolate that to 150 games and its 2.5 WAR or beyond . Which is exactly what we could reasonably expect if he improves. Robert could also improve incrementably or by leaps and bounds which is what separates him from Madrigal which I also have already noted. -
