Fuller said the same thing about Robert that I just said in the Robert trade value thread a day or 2 ago after looking at the new statcast data. His timing is off. The question is can he get his timing back while still taking a lot of walks ? I'm thinking that will be difficult in the near term. -
I know it's just a lil dig but seems like u guys thinks it's all or nothing with liking or disliking Getz. Far from it. Fair is looking at as much info you can dissect and making calls on each thing as they happen or waiting to see how things turn out . He isn't going anywhere. He will eventually like they all do. It's just temporary until Rojas is gone anyway . Not sure it'll be Vargas back at 3rd. Do t see a lot of options there immediately or even near future unless you think Rsmos or Montgomery are candidates soon.

OMG THEY ACTUALLY SENT VAUGHN TO CHARLOTTE
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What's on 2nd ? I dunno. 3rd base !! -
What ? No. Vargas every day 3rd. Sosa almost every day 2nd. Rojas bench fill in at 3rd and 2nd. I know he'll play more than I want since Getz has hopes of trading him. I have no idea how they divvy up the OF since it's Beni, Tauchman ,Slater ( aka Slayer typoed), Palacio , Taylor. You didn't mention Taylor .He's still there right ? Guess that's why you said Beni DH. Tauchman doesn't seem entirely healthy, maybe he DHs some and Palacio is strong side platoon OF. Taylor reduced to PR spot starts all over and random PH if you want your PH to bunt.

Lee has power .I think he has decent value. Not outstanding but more than Thaiss which is why I'd rather see Thaiss traded . Some teams trust a veteran catcher more who can call a good game better than the inexperienced Lee.
-
And Lee can run pretty good too.
-
That would make sense if JR didn't approve of that contract too. Maybe he even insisted on it .Maybe Vaughn golfs with JRs sons.
-
Plenty here were pleased that at 1st it appeared he could play LF I got in lots of arguments round here back then arguing against Vaughn in the OF and when he was scuffling at the plate. I still get in lots of arguments but not about Vaughn.
-
Damn both went to Charlotte so now Vaughn can cut into Elko's playing time there .Just great.
-
I expected it , so did you probably. He only got promoted because of injuries not because they think highly of him. Nothing wrong with being a RH Schwarber although that's much harder for a RH to do. He's always been a high average hitter in the minors .Done nothing but put up good numbers and work hard. High character guy. A legend in Mississippi for his gutty performance. I think it was Cannon I saw raving about him when they played each other in college on one of Garfien's CHSN podcasts you can find on YouTube.
-
Elko used it a lot. I'd be getting Luis Robert Jr. using it as much as possible. He needs to get his timing back .Take lots of swing, think center of the field so a little early goes to left center and a little late goes to RCF .Gaps and HRs. Doubles and power.

"No plan, no thought process, no confidence. The Sox have failed him so badly. " That's the quote you're backing as not meatball or a hot take. No plan. Yes there is a plan. It's the same one they gave Tim Elko. Do your best to recognize pitches outside the zone and hit pitches that you can hit in the zone. That's the simplified version. I have no specifics on it but apparently it worked at the minor league level for Elko who doesn't have the physical gifts that Robert has except for perhaps strength. Of course Elko is brand new to MLB . He never had a season like Robert did against the best pitching in the world which leads me to what comes next. I do have some specifics on Robert below. No thought process. Kind of seems like the same thing as no plan. Seems rather vague to me but not to you apparently Coaches have been brought in to help all players and better ID mechanical issues through biometrics. Vargas got help. Elko got help. One was a physical cure (mechanics) the other was a process or approach fix which seems like the same thing they tried with Robert. I have no idea why it can help Elko but not Robert. Different people of course. Doesn't appear the Sox are woefully behind the times anymore and Fuller was just hired and Fuller gave credit to the Sox biomechanist (Aaron) in R &D What was Robert's thought process in 2023 on a bad team that had 101 losses ? Riddle me this. Why did he succeed then on a bad team but you can tell me the Sox failed him by not meaningfully improving the roster ? He didnt seem to need the roster to be meaningfully improved in 2023. No confidence. Compared to this board the Sox coaching staff is all positive energy. They build these guys up like soccer moms . But maybe you can tell me who on the staff is fucking with his confidence. I'm looking for answers though. I'm not just blaming the organization in a time that is easy to blame the organization. In the Robert Trade Value thread I posted about the new statcast stats that have Vargas right up there with some of baseballs best hitters. The stats are Swing Path Tilt, Attack Angle and Attack Direction. Ted Williams was known as a hitter who had all kinds of ideas about hitting but when it comes down to it he had incredible eyesight like 20/10 .Ted Williams' hitting philosophy emphasized a balanced, controlled swing with a focus on bat speed and proper mechanics, prioritizing a "push swing" rather than a wrist snap.. He also stressed the importance of identifying a "happy zone" – a specific area in the strike zone where he had the highest probability of success, and selectively swinging at pitches within that zone. Or course you have to have the eyesight to identify pitches in micro seconds and have the reflexes to actually hit the pitch on time. The happy zone seems like the Elko and Robert thought process. Both have improved their walk rates but Robert cant get the timing down to identify hittable pitches early enough to smash them. There are also some differences in his stance now than in 2023. Robert is deeper in the box 31.9 inches in 2025 to 30.2 inches in 2023. His stance is different . His feet are farther apart 32.7 in 2025. 31.8 in 2023. His stance angle is 22 degrees open now compared to 11 degrees open in 2023. It appears that these difference were designed to allow him to see the ball better and longer but he's hitting the ball out in front of the plate more than in 2023 , 2.1 inches compared to .8 inches in 2023. His timing is off . He's too early which is why I said he was in between . Too early on hittable pitches but seeing pitches better to take more walks. He's also a tiny bit farther away from the plate which seems to be to help try to keep him away from pitches away from him. But these sweepers with so much horizontal break really seem hard for him to identify since they start inside and break outside. Makes me wonder how good he is at recognizing the spin differences or knowing the pitchers breaking ball repertoire. By the way I just found a MLB article that explains the new statcast metrics and they brought up Ted Williams just as I did in trying to explain it. Pretty good coincidence. https://www.mlb.com/news/new-statcast-swing-metrics-2025

As usual misinterpreted. Yes meatball take that Robert or any individual player for that matter, was an organizational failure unless you provide specific insight into the situation. We don't have that knowledge outside of the generalization that JR didn't hire enough of the right people for the Sox to help most players throughout his tenure as owner. I believe that and you believe that and most Sox fans believe that based on Reinsdorf stating it himself according to Lip. If you have specific information about how the Sox failed Luis Robert, Jr. I'm willing to hear it. A meatball take is more emotional than analytical. I didn't see any analysis why it was the Sox who failed him .Applying a generalized belief of the whole organization sucking at it may not apply to one individual. That's an emotional response without specific insight into pinpointing how Robert was failed. Its painting with a very broad brush. A player fails it's the organizations fault. They succeed it's not because of the organization. It starts being able to scout everywhere and identifying talent and pay to bring it in. Sometimes there just wasn't the talent there to have much of a chance for it to develop. See White Sox international signings especially in the D.R. The one GM they had who had a great but short run of picking talent that developed was Larry Himes. I think he clashed with Reinsdorf and was fired after only 4 years.
-
There you go the conundrum of Reinsdorf. Wouldn't pay to scout draft and develop it and wouldnt pay for it once it reached a certain level of greatness.
-
You might have to start buying into Vargas. But let's be fair and say to buy into Vargas as having turned it around he has to produce good hitting numbers for as many games as he sucked with the Sox . Is that fair? You tell me how much longer till you truly believe the Sox fixed him ?
-
LH power in Yankee stadium is even better. Also figured that out a long time ago. The White Sox, never known for being a hitting or HR hitting franchise have had some of the worse, if not the worst, LH hitting as a franchise in baseball history. It might explain why they didn't win very much either along with cheap owners.
-
If Elko isn't sent down he might be the White Sox HR leader in another 3 weeks . Vargas currently leads with 6. Elko in (what's it been , 2 weeks ?) has 3. Robert hasn't hit one since May 2nd or 1 HR in his last 63 PA covering his last 17 games. Elko's hit 3 HR in his last 29 PA covering his last 9 games and in 1 of those games he only had 1 PA. Vaughn has 3 HRs since April 20th covering 29 games and 115 PA.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There's a lot of new data out from statcast. I'm not expert and always seeking more knowledge. I just finished watching the CHGO podcast talking about yesterday's loss, hosted by Sean Anderson. End of the podcast he starts talking about Robert and puts some stats on the screen from 25, 24 and 23. My biggest takeaway which I'll say is a rather simplistic take based on what I saw and what Sean said, is that old baseball cliche about being caught "in between." I mean he's trying, he really is. He wants to take more pitches and make good swing decisions so he's waiting longer, letting pitches travel farther.Maybe he's even thinking more about situation and count and doing homework on pitchers and what they throw in what counts. The truly talented hitters just possess information so much better . That comes from preparing for it and study, experience and just plain physical gifts , eyesight to hand coordination recognizing pitches, spins and grips, following that ball like it's the only thing that exists. Some hitters are overwhelmed by the information and some aren't. So back to being "in between" . In 2023 Robert impacted the ball more early in front of the plate which meant he pulled the ball more and had his great season. Now because he or the Sox say if only you could make better swing decisions you'd be a better hitter he's waiting longer. So when he swings he's also waiting longer and that's just not his game. He's caught in between watching pitches and getting his swing started early enough to make contact in front of the plate. Maybe he's just been injured too much to learn from experience or maybe he's thinking too much , or just is overwhelmed and think's he's failing everyone by not being better. But clearly he can't be something that he's never been his whole life and still hit well. The Sox basically wanted Elko to do the same things and it helped him tremendously. Maybe he just made the adjustment mentally better. Fast-forward to 43:45 when he starts talking about the new statcast stats and Miguel Vargas until the end and he's talking about Robert and putting stats on the screen . Maybe you'll come to a different conclusion than I did. I'm always interested in statistical based opinions . -

Could be. The Sox failed him is an everything the Sox do is bad meatball/hot take. Nothing to substantiate it. I could say Robert has failed the Sox and be a meatball too. However I have no theories that are based on insider knowledge. He's just a young man with a lot of physical talent playing game that demands mental toughness too. It seems odd to me that I read somewhere that signing with Boras somehow got him to take stretching more seriously rather than weight training. You could jump to all kinds of conclusions when you read something like that . Does the player routinely do his own thing and take bad advice and train wrong ? MLB is very proactive about steering players in the right direction for their health and wellness and supplies the info to every team. There's plenty of information to make informed decisions. I'd have to assume it's available in Spanish too . -
People talking about trading Lee is wild to me. You're right if any catcher goes it's Thaiss and thank you for your service.
