  1. Apparently so judging by the answers after you asked. I think that if there was a poll Springer wouldn't be a top priority since it was so obvious we need another TOR starter. However, since Bauer seems to be the only one that fits that description perhaps the Sox have set their sights on Springer and will upgrade the rotation with a couple guys on 1 and 2 year contracts while hoping Kopech , Cease or Dunning step up under the tutelage of Katz, or perhaps make a trade . With Springer in the fold that would be a lot every day lineup guys around for a lot of years. Next step is getting some of the young pitchers to the same place the hitters are. This is the more difficult part because pitchers are more likely to go down with major injuries for longer periods of time. Starting pitchers are going less innings so their need is possibly being minimized and a strong bullpen can be built much cheaper. Anyway , it's nice to get back to baseball talk and seeing some hope that the Sox will spend.
  2. Jose seems to be a genuinely kind , family oriented person . I think we would be remiss if we didn't mention his early connection with Minnie Minoso. Minoso and Abreu are very much alike in that they are very grateful to had the opportunity to live and play in the US and better their lives and saw that opportunity to better the lives of his teammates with his wisdom.
  3. A heartfelt congratulations to Jose and to everyone he holds dear in his life. This seems like an opportune time to say how fortunate we are as fans to have 2 not only great players but 2 upstanding people like Jose and Tim as the leaders of this team.
  4. Most people drink and drive because they FEEL fine and think they are capable of doing something as simple as driving and it's an inconvenience to leave your car behind while you call Uber or a cab. It's not about how you FEEL it's about what the law considers to be driving while impaired or driving under the influence. The argument that .05 is too low and you'd like to be able to drink more before you get behind the wheel is quite possibly the dumbest thing I ever heard.
  5. So you'd like to be able to drink and drive just be able to drink more and drive ?
  6. Then you missed the point entirely. A few people declared him guilty of the charges. I simple said declaring him guilty without due process would be a violation of his civil rights and if we go down that path it can lead to much worse. If you state that a person charged with a crime is guilty of that crime before due process then by your words you are advocating injustice.
  7. Maybe if you had followed this from the beginning that would be clear to you . Read every post and get back to me.
  8. He wouldn't be the 1st person to get off nor the last because you know people have the right to an attorney.
  9. Somehow your anger is over ruling your thoughts. I didn't say you signed away your rights or didn't have the right to boycott. My original argument when responsding to the poster I responded to ( that wasn't you) was about declaring someone guilty without due process not about your rights. This is about TLR's rights. His civil rights. Everyone gets them not just the oppressed.
  10. Or if he gets off technically he never did drive drunk because maybe the tests were inaccurate. Look I've been against the LaRussa hiring from the beginning. I told everyone that it was not the Sox PR department using LaRussa's name as a smokescreen for hiring Hinch. Would I be far off base if I were to say that 99% of the people who drive drunk aren't caught ? There are a lot of people on this board who might have got drunk every weekend in college or at some point in young adulthood and drove drunk 100 times and never got caught. Maybe they had an alcohol problem , maybe not. There is always the "let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone" argument or the pot calling the kettle black. Is not getting caught a technicality ? Many of us used that very same bad judgement time after time and got away with it . I'm not going to die on that hill arguing for TLR . I'm just advocating for clear thought without hypocrisy.
  11. It is dangerous because if enough people share that opinion and decide to do something about it , that can be the 1st step in anarchy or mob rule. If you are just exercising your rights in a meaningless squabble in the grand scheme of things then I see no problem with that . But we cannot be naive that these things lead to overly emotional, irrational thought and when people are in an irrational, angry state of mind, all it takes is a leader with rational thought to rule the mob of the angry to start a revolution. A revolution to get LaRussa fired is great as long as we do not violate his civil rights in the process .
  12. How is anyone ever charged with anything not guilty then ? Should there not be trials anymore ? Might as well just skip the trial and get straight to the sentencing right ? I am trying to be as fair as possible.I pointed out that writing advertising sponsors could have undesirable consequences and so would assuming a guilty verdict before due process . It took 8 months from the incident to making charges. Lawyers live to make charges like these go away . You can assume all you want that LaRussa is guilty but the charges could still be dropped. That won't mean it still isn't a shit show but waiting for a verdict is a rather important part of democracies all over the world. Just because I called the the Sox organization and this situation a SHIT SHOW that doesn't mean we should spit on the judicial process. We are treading on dangerous ground here. There is enough legitimate anger here without spouting anarchy or ochlocracy .
  13. Just remember, that if the way you make your voice heard is through sponsors and the Sox lose sponsors, Reinsdorf can turn right around, do next to nothing this off season while claiming the team is in dire financial straits. He wouldn't have to specifically mention losing sponsors since that would be admitting his actions caused it. He already has a built in excuse to go cheap with the Pandemic. If you write sponsors just because you are choosing the moral high ground then what I just said is no concern but if you would like the Sox to have a productive off season you might be putting that at risk although it's already hard enough to determine how much the Sox would spend on payroll this off season. Also the Sox are not one of the teams that has announced the firing of long time organization employees. Another consequence of your actions could be people not named LaRussa losing their jobs. Remember shit rolls down hill and it's the people on the bottom of the organizational dung heap that get shit canned 1st.
  14. They are all drinking heavily right now.
  15. Sounds like the definition of Advertising to me .
  16. Which is why at the trade deadline I wanted moves made to make a serious push for a championship. It's why I cautioned people every chance I got when they started talking about making the playoffs in 2021, that assuming that is not a given. It is why this news is no shock to me. It is why I can remain hopeful but never get carried away with optimism. Being a Sox fan is always 1 step forward 3 steps back . We always knew in the back of our minds that this front office was capable of screwing it all up. This is a SHIT SHOW that has gone on a long long time.
  17. I remember loving that idea when it first came up. As bmags said recently and I probably said at the time trading Madrigal would be no big deal because they are easily replaced for very little money. I think I kept that Gallen /Madrigal conversation going longer than it should have on here just because it was fun to talk about but not realistic. I don't think you were the only one against but a majority were good with it. I was surprised though at the amount of people against it. Seemed like a slam dunk to me when you compare a young starter with indicators pointing up with a guy who hadn't played in the major yet who has never projected to be a run producer and whose OBP was too tied into his batting average.
  18. The only way the Sox get a payroll of $150M is if there is a vaccine for Covid in the next 2 months + overwhelming season ticket orders after it ends. Odds of that happening : 100 to 1.
  19. Because the 1st time only SS2k5 took the bait when he mentioned Gaedel . Some people would rather make outlandish statements for their shock value so they can become a big fish in a small pond like Soxtalk for kicks ?
  20. Sox fans tend to do that. We all have opinions. What exactly has he posted that he needs to be credible about ? Certainly not these two. One states the obvious with a pretended knowledge of what the other 29 teams are doing. The 2nd one is pure opinion. There's enough baseball talk on the internet that could keep you reading 24/7 . Basically you maybe read the 25 best twitters resources and some other websites and voila, if you have any memory at all or bookmarks your info you become instant Sox expert without having to name your resources.
  21. You know why. Because your average fan knows our guys years of control but not other team's . They just know Gallo and Lynn are players fitting holes on the roster but not thinking long term. I get amazed people would rather subject themselves to sounding unknowledgeable then use the miraculous resource at their fingertips that is the internet to better their knowledge.
  22. You don't think they knew he didn't have any power last season ? How exactly do you shift on Madrigal ? Just how shallow can an OF play ? He if shoots a ball down a line an OF would have a long run to catch up to it as it rolls into a corner. Would a team rather accept a single from him every now and then or give up triples or inside the park HR's from playing too shallow ? This is not a girl who looks like she never swung a bat before in your local co-ed softball league.
  23. Why do you speak as if it was Hahn and Hahn alone who was the lone mastermind and LaRussa and LaRussa alone who now holds the power ? Don't you think the front office has meetings with scouts and people who know minor league and major league personnel and compile a list of players to seek that might number around 100 and start making preliminary calls and start a process and gauge the likelihood of such acquisitions ? Who we do and don't end up with is a combination of availability, and cost of acquiring that is palatable to supple budgetary constraints.
  24. Adequate not ideal.
  25. So much for suggested trades. Not one yet. Maybe your inspiring speech about ridiculous trade ideas on here helped. As a General i could hear you now rallying the troops. "Go out there boys and fight ! You're more likely to be killed by friendly fire than the enemy."
