  1. Not exactly what I was hoping for after a 4 pitch walk to Moncada. A 1st pitch swing by ABreu on a pitch out of the zone for a sac fly RBI.
  2. Ummm so 2 games threads for the suspended game and a thread about the start time but where's the 2nd game thread ?
  3. I always have to give props for any rock reference. The Who 's "We Won't Get Fooled Again,"
  4. The Sox really can't even assume Kopech and Dunning will be back 100 % from TJ . Burdi is taking a while , Wheeler from the Mes had TJ and it took him over 2 years to get his stuff back together. It's not a given that once cleared to pitch that they actually will pitch or pitch effectively.
  5. I don't think even the most optimistic ever thought of him as a run producer. His upside is just a good all around baseball player who can help a team by getting on base , extending rallies, driving in some runs and fielding his position and running the bases well. More like Whit Merrifield without Merrifield's power and frankly Id be very pleased with that.
  6. And that's not a terrible thing at all. I am often guilty of the same thing but time has taught me to be more of a pragmatist. I often will stick up for prospects when they are badmouthed but that doesn't mean I don't see the faults that cause the badmouthing. Hope is a wonderful thing if used in moderation.
  7. Madrigal hasn't even made it to AA yet and AA is the hardest step . That would be a huge leap for him. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/white-sox-prospect-nick-madrigal-leads-minors-strikeout-rate-its-not-translating-hits Ok you tell me what exactly are Sox employees supposed to say? 1st half results on Madrigal are not encouraging so of course Getz will say look at the 2nd half. It's their job to paint a rosy picture. I am not saying it's a bleak picture at all , just be a little more realistic. There's only one chance that Madrigal starts the season in 2020 with the Sox and that's if he all of a sudden goes on a tear and hit's .350 jumps through AA at the same pace and ends the year in AAA. But I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts he won't even make it to AAA by the end of the year. And it's 50/50 on him even making it to AA at some point this year.
  8. His arm does have a lot of miles but he is young enough that it should bounce back and it is showing signs of that . No pitcher or player comes without something that scares you. I pretty much guarantee his contract will be north of $100M. This is from a recent article on who the Phillies might go after. "Bumgarner had shown signs of decline the last two seasons with lower strikeout rates, higher ERAs and far fewer innings pitched. This season, he's off to a promising start, striking out 9.3 batters per nine innings compared to 7.6 last season, along with one of the lower walk rates of his career. His fastball velocity is also about a full mile per hour higher than it was last season." https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/mlb-trade-rumors-zack-greinke-madison-bumgarner-mike-minor-all-realistic-phillies-trade
  9. You know you are too smart to keep saying Madrigal will be an integral part of the 2020 team. It's not even a sure thing Robert will be there in 2020. It hurts your credibility when u keep saying that.
  10. Nelson Cruz and Marwin Gonzalez were 2nd tier guys and Schoop got 7.5M but Perez and Cron each got under $5M. As of now the 3 cheapest guys are making the biggest contributions, Blake Parker is a bit like McCann in that he is eligible for arbitration next year but was signed for $1,8 and has been so far an outstanding member of their bull pen. Perez has a team option for 2020.
  11. Maybe. Add Keuchel for this year and next ,sign Bumgarner in the off season and suddenly you have Bumgarner, Keuchel Giolito Cease, Kopech Dunning and Rodon for 2020.
  12. And the thing is it's a great time to do that with FA prices for non tenders , and waivers and free agents who lack suitors for various reasons. If the Sox explored that market with just one person full time. Maybe they could've re signed Avi after he was non tendered or Schoop , or picked on a 30 HR guy like Cron on waivers. or got Martin Perez all guys around 27/28 yrs all for a year with a chance to extend them. But Hahn did get McCann and he fits in that category too.
  13. It feels like ages since Rondon did anything good. Time for Mendick.
  14. No way you extend him for 5 years and $60 .He won't get 5 years from anyone in free agency.
  15. The thing is potential 30 homer guys like Cron and Cruz were out there for the taking. Schoop, Perez and Cron were all 28 and under . Sox wasted all off season on the Machado derby. The only position player they picked up who was youngish was McCann and they let go of Avi who was also still youngish. I don't think the decision to non tender him was bad but not competing with TB to offer him an incentive laden deal could've been tried.
  16. Not really I mean they have some good young players but are getting major contributions from 1 year free agents like Martin Perez, Nelson Cruz, Jonathon Schoop and 2 years for Marwin Gonzalez also big contribution from waivers with CJ Cron also a 1 year contract.
  17. Only thing to look forward to this game is watching Eloy and Moncada.
  18. Covey looking good so far throwing 5 pitches. 2 seamer, cutter, slider, curve and change up.
  19. I agree. Many good players who have bet on themselves have been burned in free agency Just to name a few Keuchel, Kimbrel and Moustaskas. Grandal had multi year offers he turned down and took a 1 year deal. $25M might look low comparatively because we aere all used to seeing mega bucks being thrown around but it is $25 Million dollars salary for 4 freaking years. Why throw that kind of money away betting on yourself when yourself just had to sign for $2.5 because no one else would pay you more. As Steve Miller sang " Go on take the money and run ".
